    in the first 3 minutes you have given me so many solutions to my own camper build. I wanted to do the tiny house thing but found the smarter thing for me is a camper for now. the idea of working with metal and odd corners as well as things like emergency exits has been intimidating...can't wait to watch the rest maybe my other questions will be answered haha - hey, thanks and great job!!

    I probably like your conversion better than any of the 100? or so I have seen. You have an angle nosed trailer the same dimensions as the one I am about to start on..but.. Nobody seems very concerned about weight. All of these are really loaded up. I am pulling mine with a Tacoma (with a tow package and trans cooler) but I am really worried about weight and weight distribution. Great job though. This one looks awesome.

    Single axle will allow about 1500# to 2100# add-ons depending on the brand and style. Double axle is more forgiving with a 7,000# gross axle. About 15% tongue weight. Don't overweight the back behind the axle for better handling.

Just curious, as my first time building a tiny house would you say 6-8 weeks is a realistic timeline for getting my project finished? I did not build a slope in, but the slightest slope in the trailer itself causes it to drain easily. I usually have a slope so small that you don't notice, but enough that it will drain. I can't provide measurements right now because the camper is not with me. Sorry.

  • @rixanneh18

    @rixanneh18

    So I did a little google research and it appears that there isn't anything factual about it holding moisture and prone to mold. "Typically, this insulation is treated with an EPA-approved borate solution that provides a Class A fire-resistance rating, which certifies a product as effective against severe exposure to external fires, not readily flammable and not a contributor to the spread of fire. (Borate has lower toxicity than table salt and is safe for humans and the environment.) *****It's also treated with an EPA-registered fungal inhibitor for additional protection against mold, mildew and pests.***** According to a builder: "it doesn’t expand well to fill the cavities leading to an unacceptable gap ratio in many cases. It needs to be treated with fire and insect treatments and it can hold moisture." According to environmental engineers: "it can cost twice as much as other insulation, but the benefits of removing asthma- and allergy-triggering toxins from a home's indoor air outweigh the increased expense." I think recycled blue-jean insulation is definitely the way to go, as long as you pay attention to the gap ratio it seems like an awesome choice.

    Thank you. There is no holding tank. No black water because I have a composting toilet. I have a 25 gallon portable holding tank for the gray water if I need it. I rarely need it though, since most campsites have septic to hook into and in most off grid places, gray water can just run on the ground. There are a few places where it's not allowed so that is what my portable tank is for. There is a link to it in the description.

    Oops, forgot to also ask, in your opinion, was there enough room in the bathroom to have used a 55 gal. water tank? Thirdly, if the trailer was 20' and an all-in-one washer/dryer were installed, How much solar and batteries would it take to make it work? Lastly, I am considering cargo doors on the rear and trying for a 2-3' Garage of sorts for tools and electrical. My thought was water up front and electrical in the rear. Good idea or bad?

    There is a 25 gallon freshwater tank at the very front below the water heater. I do not have wastewater holding tanks. I don't need a black tank because I have a composting toilet and many places have no problem with gray water running on the ground since it is simply shower and sink water. There are a few places that will not allow it though.

    Mind if I ask how you screwed on the wood interior siding? There was a clip showing you drill holes and then push in screws, but how do the screws lock to the aluminum framing? Are the framing holes used as the thread for a bolt? Did you put in wood support beams?

    Wouldn't have been easier to use self-tapping screws? Or is there a specific reason why you choose to pre-drill?

    I tried self tapping screws, but found it was easier and faster to pre-drill. I guess because the metal studs were so thick.

    Nice! How much does the camper weigh now and how does it pull compared to a conventional camper?

    I haven't weighed it yet, but I would guess around 5K. It pulls fine. I can't even tell its back there sometimes, but i'm pulling it with a Dodge Ram 2500 which will tow up to 13K.

    I have a ram 2500 as well, with 6.4 hemi. My wife, 4 girls, and myself will be traveling/ camping in this trailer. 24 ' seems reasonable, more might be better. What are you thoughts on more length with your 2500? Thanks. Great job.

    From my experience pulling my 16', it would be no problem pulling more. My truck will tow about 13K and the trailer I'm pulling probably weighs less than 5K. The 24' should be no problem for your truck, but you could simply check the weight to be sure.

    To b honest 1 of most overlooked issues w towing is chking weight that is legal.. w ur 4 children & wife safety wud b my primary concern. It's a topic not usually discussed & often not followed. I'm not saying that it applies to u.Have recently witnessed results of not towing safely (weight etc) results can b catastrophic. More u tuber truckers r addressing this to improve road safety for all. Good safe travels & adventures for u all.

    Electrical needs to be run in conduit otherwise It could be a fire hazard. Otherwise everything is cool, I like the floor. The layout is good too.
