Tiny Hatchback Camper Conversion *Super Cheap And Easy*

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I modified a stretcher to camp in a small hatchback. Total cost was about 60,- euros and it can be made with just basic tools. Please let me know what you think and if you would like to see any modifications or other projects.
Here's a video of my first camping trip using the stretcher: • I Went Camping In My C...

I see many comments asking why the bed is on the driver's side. It can be used on either side, but I like to keep the passengers side free so I have more space to sit and relax in the evening or if the weather is bad. Thanks for all the comments! I'm working on more video's so please consider to subscribe if you are interested. It would really help me out!

I agree with the safety concerns of not being able to escape if a bad situation arises in the middle of the night. I've had a couple of occasions where I've had to quickly vacate my parking spot in the middle of the night. Other than this concern, this was a great video! Thanks for the ideas.

I love the simple ingenuety that everyone can share now on youtube but did no one go "car camping" as a kid? My parent were always on their next "$600" junker car. Mainly station wagons in late 50s, 60s, 70s. Love the staion wagon idea. Prefer that over the hatchbacks and these days they are just mini SUVs ith goliath pretend fronts adding weight. Hate that look! We city camped a lot to save money. Live in southern Calif so we went up and down the coast a lot from San Diego to San Francisco, Oregon and Washington. As young adult sister and I ventured inland highways, grand canyon etc. We got trucks then. Remember the raised bed insert to go with a shell slightly higher in back. Totally loved that. We put all suitcases, camp chairs etc. under it and the sleeping bags and top always made up! We could even scoot through the open boot but skinnier then! That was on a small 2 door Datsun truck. Cheap as sister got it as a few miles used company truck. Half the price and new really! But the station wagon camping my mother threw in a twin bed mattress from one of out beds. My brother younger then so he had a toddler bed. That mattress across gap at bottom. We all slept sideways with ONLY blankets. Mother in back seat and father in front seat! Cooler and food on floor. We didnt cook camp except my parents only drank tea so my mother brought the electric kettle. Plugged in at every gas station bathroom or campground bathroom! We had NO curtains on the station wagon either and we did washcloth baths in back seat on a towel! or in the bathroom stall. Just saying sleeping in a car was always done. And lucky you have more options.

I'm planning a car camping trip this late spring, 2023, using my 2016 Audi A7 Sportback. With the back seats down, I can stretch out fully. Gonna just use my Nemo Air Mattress and Zenbivy quilt on one side and a Rubbermaid container with all my gear and a cooler and my favorite PodRocker folding chair. Will so a quick vid to show the setup.

The stretcher idea is genius. I was trying to think about how to solve this problem and considered just having loads of folded duvets in the boot/trunk then putting a single air bed over the top so it was flat, but this idea is way better. Thanks for sharing with us!.

The really quick way to do this if you're not very tall it's a baby bed mattress in the back seat. I'm 5'6" and I can put a baby mattress in the back seat and something in the floorboards the out at level and it fits perfectly in Elantra. I'm 5 foot 6 so I just have to bend my knees like six inches or something

The police came by probably 5 or 6 different times and ran my ID and said have a good day

Wow, that’s pretty cool. I saw maybe a documentaru or something about some people who were doing that & it was fascinating. I’m trying to picture that. One evening I went to a storage unit I had and some guys across from mr had their band oractice set uo there. It was a lot of fun & lots of people came over. Did the storage place call the cops? Apparently a lot of orople do that. There was guy on Periscope ,A vetersn, who would walk around LA all day making live stresms of cool stuff them at night wslked to his storage & slept there for the night. I am fascinated by that.People are getting priced out of having basic shelter. Just wrong.

Leaves the smaller rear seat in place for sitting & with the two front seats as far forward as they'll go & flipped forward there's a surprising amount of space. Video of it on my channel...

Like the idea with the cod! But why didn't you set it up for the passenger side? You can leave the cod up and drive away in an emergency. You would also have more space for your legs as the steering wheel is out of the way. Another idea is to take out the rear bench completely. In some cars that takes only a few minutes. In my car (Hyundai Atos) it is just 4 screws. Cat loves it :)

That's what I use to think - because my dad would be covered in grease and dust and everything was big and loud - until I actually started building out my SUV. None of that stuff is hard to use and basic stuff doesn't require a lot of intelligence or strength. It's about an hard as using an electric mixer or a blender. The safety guards and basic common sense will protect you from almost any accident. You can buy a Goodyear utility cut off tool from Walmart for $25 and learn how to use it in a 3 minute KZread video. But if you don't want to get outside your comfort zone and learn a new skill, which is completely valid, you can also buy a $10 hacksaw.

@@freeshrugs63 I'm thinking of a low profile platform and foam mattress.(28-30 inches wide x 69 in long x 5-7 in height). It'll give me more headroom in a Ford Escspe with seats folded down. Under the platform I'll use shoe boxes 4-6 inches high to keep it low profile. I think it'll serve my needs for a weekend getaway camper. Under 5'5" my bed won't need to be as long as the cot in the video. I'll use 3 pieces that will easily stack in the trunk during the week. -- Thought draft. Will try a prototype this weekend. 🤞🙏🤷‍♀️

Agreed. And power tools are not cheap if you don’t have any to start with.

It's a 26 euro tarp from Decathlon. Works well though!
