That's a very recent one: Willow. What an incredible musicians, all 5 of them. Even better: going from the Tiny Desk to the recent album, it's a revelation to hear something so organic (which, unfortunately, is quite unique today, and the main reason why I prefer dressed down concerts like Tiny Desk over studio albums). The facial expressions of drummer The Pocket Queen alone make this Tiny Desk concert worth watching, pure gold.

A great audio engineer, he reminded us how good well-recorded and well-played music can sound, in a simple format and without so much post-production. Greetings from Argentina.

great video - josh`s world looks a little like mine in Danish Radio 🙂 I think I have done nearly all sorts of types of recordings during my 35 years in the radio business. Tiny desk concerts, big symphony orchestras in foreign countries, rockbands in live situations, all sorts and sizes of bands in radiostudios, stereo field recording in a multitude of sorts, chamber music in churches around europe, world music concerts in Syria and eastern europe etc etc 🙂 Cannot complain about a boring job and thats why I still go to work as a happy sound engineer after all these years

❤😊 It cannot be done to pick a favorite tiny desk performance, every one of them I've heard is just so good! There's a lot I've not gotten to hear yet, and do not want any spoilers. I have to watch out because I know the chances of me going on album binges is intensified every time I Iisten through a tiny desk set.

Great interview, thanks Warren and Josh! I love Tiny Desk shows, I've watched countless ones, some of the best stuff I've ever heard. As an engineer 2 things struck me about this show: that every musician must really be able to control their dynamics, in that small space and with so many microphones, one person getting too loud can ruin the whole thing! That takes a special skill and not everyone can do it. Second, the way the mics are used, particularly shotgun mics at a distance and not the usual dynamics obscuring half of the singers' faces, which I always hate - being able to see the expression on the performers' faces creates an intimacy and that makes these shows special. I also love seeing hip-hop artists performing for real, with real instrumental backing, and not the usual studio productions with samples and all kinds of processing.
excellent interview / conversation. That was so incredibly informative and interesting. Thank you

Signed up for the masterclass on the 11.07 😊 Love the sound from the Mexican duo and of course all the NPR tiny desk gigs, always wondered how they always made it sound so goooood!!! Hi Warren, that Ear Trumpet Labs model is the Edwina. Around $600. Jedd Hughes recommended them on one of his videos. I love mine. Sounds great and gives a vocalist a cool, vibey mood. Kind of improves my performances.

@@Producelikeapro I don't, Warren. I just saw a video from Jedd Hughes which was largely about this particular mic so I bought one. It's funny how much the appearance and vibe of it was attractive but it genuinely sounds great. I've only used it on my very amateur vocals.

@@Producelikeapro Warren, I don't know if you're still catching these replies to replies but I'm very excited to share another revelation. It's very off topic but I spent several hours with George Gruhn, discussing and playing his own design acoustic guitars. They sound amazing and vary significantly, depending on your choice of tone woods. I wound up with a sitka top with black locust back and sides. I took it to my friend, who is an eminent guitar tech, and he was thoroughly impressed with the tone, the design and the setup, straight from Gruhn's. It's very subtle to play and is suited to the 12s it comes strung with. I've NEVER known my friend not to want to do something to a new guitar. The neck was perfect. He said to just stay with the 12s, use pencil in the nut when restringing and play it subtly, letting it do the singing. Very clear, yet rich in harmonics and impressive sustain. I don't know if you've had the pleasure already but on a day when I had zero plans to buy another guitar, it was impossible to lay off this one. Oh, and remarkably reasonably priced. Cheers, Warren.
