Tinned Potatoes In The Airfryer Any Good?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today we air fry tinned potatoes and see if they taste any good.
Using the Ninja Foodi Airfryer we drain the potatoes and air fry them with some olive oil and rosemary.
This is a really cheap way of eating.

    We did this other night. Empty tin into heated water with top salt fir 5 mins on the hib to heat through; drain and pat dry; put into air fryer for 10 mins (no oil). Really enjoyed them.

    Hmmm, it's not really air frying when you're pouring oil into it. You're basically using it as a frying pan. Try soaking the potatoes in oil first, then placing the oiled potatoes into the airfryer. Or just spray some oil onto the potatoes before adding them to the Ninja.

    I’ve been air-frying for about 12 years and I would not do them like that. I put the potatoes in a large bowl and spray them with oil, tossing until evenly coated. The idea of an air-fryer is to reduce the amount of oil you use. You can sprinkle seasoning into the bowl after they are coated in oil. Garlic powder, onion powder or paprika can make them interesting. Once coated they usually only take about 12-15 minutes to crisp up. You can do really nice roast potatoes this way if you cook them as usual, roughen them up in a colander before spraying with oil. Very crispy!

    What no paprika? I'd prob coat the potatoes in the oil and herbs etc, drain and place in airfryer.

    wow we have all kinds of tinned potatoes and an air fryer. I don't know why I never thought of doing this but they look amazing. I think I would serve them with a sour cream and chive topper or dip. I might just try this next time I am tired and just want to throw together a quickie dinner. Some beyond chicken strips and these both done in the AF together with a sour cream topping and there's dinner. thx for the idea.

    But they're not cheap!! Those "cheap" canned potatoes from Morrisons work out at about £1.05 per kg (fully one third of the contents of the can is water), whereas regular fresh potatoes from Morrisons are around 65p per kg and can be air-fried in just the same way.

    37p in Morrisons I think that is cheap, I don't know what Morrisons you shop at, the point of it is a cheap thing to eat if you have them in your cupboard

  • @TheRoybeasley

    @TheRoybeasley

    @@sarahknight6054 My point being that buying canned, pre-cooked potatoes, even at 37p a can is one of the most expensive ways to buy spuds. You will actually get around 360g of cheap, flavour-free potatoes for your 37p, plus about 180g of salted water which you will pour straight down the drain. As I said, that works out to a little bit more than £1 per kg of potato. By contrast, still shopping at Morrisons, you could instead buy regular, fresh spuds for around half that price per kg. Travel to your local Aldi and you could buy 2kg of fresh spuds for 15p (yes, that's 7.5p per kg) and make loads of air-fried spuds for a fraction of the cost (spuds that were produced here in UK rather than being imported from Europe, too). As an aside, the fact that something is already in your cupboard doesn't make it cheap - those tinned spuds still cost 37p for a modest amount regardless of when you bought them.

    You don't even need that much - just rub (or spray, if you must) a teaspoon or so on such a small quantity of food.
