Stayed and worked here for 2 weeks in 2018. Might all look a bit silly but I have so much respect for these people and have many incredible memories from my time at Tinkers Bubble... Pedro in the video was a nice bloke and your man Mike or Michael as I knew him was absolutely fascinating... He showed up at meal times and based on my skill set and hay fever I ended up doing a fair bit of kitchen work (including taking the leg of lamb from high in the rafters and cooking it all day). One time I will never forget, Michael took me for a brief walk and chat as if it were father to son... he showed me an innocuous timber frame by a tree and told me it can be used to lock a piece of wood into place to undertake accurate work. I don't even know if the old boy is still alive but I expect he always will be in my heart. Incredible skills and devotion from all the people I encountered there, way beyond those shown in this video. Long live the curious and glorious outsiders

Amazing short piece. Grew up about a mile up the hill from Tinkers Bubble. Currently writing a project proposal for my dissertation based on Low Impact Developments in a woodland setting, they were an inspiration in my question choice, and this documentary has bought me out of a slump and revitalised my enthusiasm for it.

I remember Tinkers Bubble from my childhood, almost 60 years ago, when my grandparents lived in Stoke. Grandad would befriend the travellers who used Tinkers Bubble as their seasonal stop-over. They used to go door to door offering to sharpen kitchen knives and garden tools and sell wild flowers. It was a simple life and a pleasant one.

A grand little film clip. A bunch of lucky and hardy earthlings living in a magical setting. Obviously working hard to enjoy the life they chose. Big thumbs up. If I was not disabled I would relish the same existence.

I was there for about 6 weeks in 1997. Punks n booze n dogs were visiting too so it was a bit chaotic but since then it’s got much tighter regarding stays though a quick visit with respect n bringing a gift (of course not asked for OR expected) is appreciated. Lovely people then and now.David was into electronics n Mike above was there. A woman called Louise was there with a couple of kids but she later left I was told. There was a yurt near the main tippie then. Will visit tinkers again before I die.

You know, it would be REALLY nice if people would start making videos that have HIGH speaking volume. I have hearing trouble and even WITH my speakers at full volume, AND a GOOD pair of headphones on with THEIR volume all the way up, I STILL couldn't hear half of what these wonderful people were saying. Couldn't even finish watching this because I can't hear what's going on. With that being said, I envy these people. I hate living in this society.

Seraphyna-Diamond Invest in some headphones if you can. Worked fine for me, although I noticed that I had the volume all the way up on everything - which is a problem obviously. Anyway, thanks for the video! I think the only thing I don't like about this community is that they use animals as slaves still, but hopefully that will change in time.

The ethos is one I support but unlike somewhere like Lammas, the living conditions look squalid. If low-impact is gonna gain support it needs to look hygienic and comfortable, not like living rough!

OK don't get mad I'm not a scientist but I'm pretty sure I heard that burning wood for heat is worse for the environment than burning fossil fuels for heat so if (not a scientist so) that's true then maybe they should use some fossil fuels likr in this case. could be good

Yes, unfortunately they're not a totally vegan community. I used to live nearby, and visited them. I'm a vegan too, and couldn't live there in the community for that reason. Over the years, many individual members and visitors have been vegan, but the ethos isn't. They're still great people, living a wonderful low-impact life. But it'd have to be totally plant-based for me to settle permanently there...

interesting concept of wanting to live with no fossil fuels...Obviously no one is perfect and from this short 10min film it's hard to gather everything these people are doing. The things I see that I wouln't want to do in my community if I had something similar is the houses look like they need alot of work. Why not build something like an earthship? that might sustain you for longer....Also making ones own products is important from bowls to clothes...Not to be judgemental but just noticing that these people arent wearing home made clothes...Anyway it's a start. I think it could be done in a more organized clean way.

You are right, no one is perfect. These folk are mighty closer than many others though :) I suspect the residents could find the time to design and make their own clothes but are simply to busy preparing food, maintaining their home, communicating, keeping warm and enjoying life. :)
