    There's no need to get everything new Cory, especially as the chain and tensioner both look fine.....however I've only ever found one way to get more power from an old 2 1/4 diesel.....junk it and put in a newer engine...😂 Also the 2 1/4 diesel is a notoriously gutless engine, my last one had a top speed of about 55mph, if you could put up with the engine screaming like it was going to go into orbit....it was happiest at about 35-40 mph

    Ha ha!! Very true Sir. I’ve researched quite a few engine swaps. May do one in the future. I want to try to get as much power as possible from this little diesel first. I’m looking for steady power more than speed. Ha ha!! Earplugs may be required for long trips. Ha ha!!

    Wear in The 2 1/4 diesels valve timing also retards the injection timing. Advancing, cam timing on the off set splines will advance injection timing, and stop the white smoke at tick-over.. There is a Bronze support bush, below the injector pump. When this wears, the fuel injection timing also retards. This bush is often forgotten and never changed! So the Three main wear points for Injection timing.. Fit new bush, a new timing chain, as well as advanced the cam shaft timing as you have done, and you could reach maximum advance and power. Then Add an overdrive box and you'd cruise at sensible rpm's The 2 1/4 can perform a lot better than their reputation

    You are correct Sir! I have checked the brass drive gear. It’s still in good shape. Definitely timing has a lot to do with performance in a diesel. Just advancing the chain 5deg is leaps and bounds from before. So I’m happy so far but I think I can get a little more power. Ha ha!!

    I agree with @grumpsbarn, I had a 2 1/4 diesel in a swb and that was slow. I also had a 6 cyl petrol in a lwb and that was a lot better, but still no drag racer!

    Hello. I could not find information on installing the injection pump gear when the engine is at TDC. Where should the slot point?

    Thank you for watching. The green bible repair manual says 20 degrees. The green Land Rover series manual shows you. I wound suggest buying one. Lots questions can be answered in there.

    @@conrad1468 Thank you very much! Yes, I found the information, the fuel injection pump was set almost correctly, there was a mistake by a degree, the car took longer to start and whitish smoke was coming out. But for now I’m doing something else, series 3 ))
