Timeline of the Largest Ocean Liners

Ойын-сауық

This timeline looked at the largest "active" ocean liners throughout history.
Therefore, SS Great Eastern was excluded for most of it's lifetime since it served such a short period of time as an ocean liner.
RMS Queen Elizabeth did not become an ocean liner until 1946. The ship also retired in 1968 and stopped functioning as an ocean liner. Therefore, it was excluded from the least thereafter.
World War 1 & 2 ceased most passenger trade and did not affect this timeline (except if the record holder was destroyed, like SS Normandie)
I hope you enjoyed the video :)

I love how you can phisically see the removal of sails and the increase in height to make the ship more comfortable

Yes it really is amazing how technology evolved in the span of 180 or so years. Being on a ship used to be a risky endeavor. Now you have ships like Queen Mary 2 where you can hardly feel the effects of the rough sea.

I'm surprised that you left out RMS Aquitania and Britannic (Olympic-Class which was obviously destroyed in WWI when it struck a mine in the Kea Channel).

RMS Aquitania really was a massive liner. However, at 45,647 GRT, it was smaller than Germany’s Imperator and of course RMS Olympic. Olympic was originally built smaller than Aquitania, but after Titanic’s sinking, Olympic received a refit bringing her up to 46,000 tons.

As for Britannic, she was built too late. At 48,000 GRT, she had no hope of becoming the largest ocean liner as Imperator was 52,000 GRT

@@nboceanlinerhistory Good point. I understand that you were focusing on the largest liners of the time periods that you covered and by 1913 Aquitania was smaller than Olympic as far as gross tonnage goes, even though Aquitania was slightly longer. Thank you for taking the time to have a conversation with me about it.

The S.S Baltic is not the real name of that ship that ship was called the S.S Atlantic she hit a rock and that’s what caused here to sink it happened during a storm she sank and shallow waters the water is only 5 yards deep

SS Atlantic had 5 other identical sister ships. They were the Oceanic, Baltic, Celtic, Republic, and Adriatic. The Baltic was the only sister to have been the largest “active” ocean liner in the world from 1871-1872

The video never said it sank and when a ship is being scrapped they lower the life boats to prepare for scrapping
