Time to upgrade your car? No, it isn’t | MotorInc Spark
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Stepping up to a new car is an exciting idea, but should you be upgrading? No, says Kartik; not until you have checked off a) 5-point list and b) completed one written test. Both of which are shared in this video. Don’t cheat. It’s your life. Your time. Your happiness. And your money. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, so some people are allowed to go shopping straight away. Is it need versus want? There is something more... it's the timing.

This advice is right on... one of the biggest waste of money for most of us is buying new cars, along with the interest on loans. I plan to keep my cars as long as possible... currently have a 2015 Toyota Camry and 2017 Chevy Spark, both great cars with no issues!

@MotorInc, @Kartikeya, In a fast paced world, where we are either looking "excitement" ourselves in everything, every step of the way OR if we are being peer pressured or being socially engineered to look for "excitement " every step of the way, this was/is a great msg to sit back, relax, take a breath, take stock of what we have and what we actually need before just jumping into something just for the sake of it. Great point of view. Thank you and keep it up.
Wow and here I’m driving an old 1997 Corolla which has 390000km on the ODO and it still drives, the gear still shifts great, though some electronics don’t work anymore for e.g. the rear right power window and the speedo no longer shows the right speed but that doesn’t matter for me as the RPM gauge (rev counter) gives me enough info. Old car barely any features so I had to add reverse parking sensors, cruise control, and a new stereo system (speakers too).

Totally agree! if a person tries to replace a 2018 vehicle, for example, a titanium Ecosport Diesel with a new vehicle with similar specs, it will cost nothing less than 16L to 18L!!. Bought a new car last year. Urban Cruiser automatic. Wanting to own an automatic was the very first reason. I saved enough money over few years which helped in not taking a loan. Tried a few cars and finally settled for this one. Bought it just before it was discontinued by Toyota. Very happy with the purchase. The engine is peppy, the driving is super smooth and the auto gearbox is such a charming one!! Few things could be improved but not too bothered about them! Very happy with my decision!

I live in Dubai and have a small collection of cars at my disposal, mostly V6 and V8s ranging in age from 9-24 years old. My absolute favorite daily driver is a 2008 Lexus LS460, which I bought new in 2008 and is in excellent condition. It’s hard to give up on this car because it’s still a NA V8, super comfortable, and I have upgraded the stereo-phone integration with under $100 of Bluetooth adapters etc. I find a lot of new cars in terms of motorization, smoothness, longevity and user interface to be a step backwards from recent vehicles and modern classics. Even some of the newer designs are hideous (looking at you, BMW 7 Series). Very few brand new cars truly excite me. There is something satisfying about maintaining slightly older cars in top form and enhancing them slightly for tech and features.

I started visiting your channel because I was following shumi's reviews. Started from OD, then PD and now this. Liked the new way of doing reviews and the gamut of covered areas under discussion. Rather than sleek shots of people riding the vehicle- which you can get from any other website, or even after visiting a showroom, I think motor inc covers the 'real' concerns related to a purchase of vehicle or how a vehicle is, closer to a test drive and the research done regarding how it might or might not fit your life style. Most of the other reviews seems like a marketing ad for the vehicles under review. Kartik also, seems like to have different opinion from shumi- the hyundai ioniq video, which is a good thing for us. Two different people, sharing different opinions and we can weigh in based on ours. Thumbs up.

There's nothing a Stage 1 remap, bilstein B6 springs cant do. What Kartikeya is describing is called lateral upgrading, a hotly discussed topic on teambhp. stretch your budget and buy a better car and keep it for atleast 10 years. Those who wanted to buy the Nexon took my advise, stretched their budget and went for the Hexa. They ain't complaining. They got no other car which can possibly replace it in terms of ride quality, the only con being the extremely heavy steering.

I bought Figo for 6 lakhs back then, now even if I spend 10 lakhs, there is no car which comes close to Figo in terms of build quality, safety and high speed stability. I am going to use my Figo till it lasts. What makes me smile is when I take my Figo on highways, it can easily reach and cruise triple number speeds whereas new age Baleno, i20 struggle to keep up the pace with my Figo.

Bro. Good point. One of the reasons people upgrade is features....e.g. infotainment system as one of the key upgrade. Big struggle is finding a quality infotainment console. All you find is cheap Chinese stuff that are unreliable....any directions where one can find end to end solutions for upgrading infotainment system in cars. Btw I have Honda City CVT 2017 and I love my car but struggling with above issue.
Excellent information , we had a car for 7 years and we had to change it until it started to rust ,it didn't have ac and modern features none the less it's did perfectly fine when it came to commuting.

You lads are doing a stellar job! Keep going. Small recco: Invest in a teleprompter - it adds that little bit of extra intimacy with a viewer if you maintain that eye-contact. Getting use to the prompter pedal to keep the scroll is like learning how to use the accelerator pedal - which I presume you don't need a course in. :)

Because of this big transition phase of automotive industry. I have bought a 2013 Toyota etios . It had 1.37L kms to it. And i put on 10k on it in a year. I am understanding my user pattern or more likely settling my user pattern to choose the right car for me in the future . I did not want take any new EMI. I had planned for an EV . But decided to wait for some good range on it. But still hesitant to change to ev as I have clocked only 10k kms on the car I a year.
My Baleno DDiS having champ legendary 1.3 ltr Fiat machine. Getting Avg fuel economy of 25 kmpl in Pune city and more than 30kmpl on highway. Cost was around 10 lakh at that time. Now petrol Baleno cost around 13 lakhs. No point to change. You correctly mentioned about upcoming technologies of fuel. Need to rethink before going of change. Automobile machines are so robust and run for long. I have my libero now 20 yrs old. Clocked 125000 kms. My Gladiator clocked 75000 kms. Maintain machines and they run long without any complaint. Thanks for such grt content.

Fantastic to get a peek into your garage! And, thank you!
Bought a manual Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI in June'21. Clocked in 95K since then. The car works absolutely fine and still feels like new. I absolutely love Tbone. Then, got married recently. My partner ain't a big fan of manual. So, decided to change things a bit and kinda start fresh. Checked out Kia Seltos diesel with a Torque Converter, Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI with a DSG and Honda City with a CVT. The most important criteria was the experience behind the wheel and safety equipment. Gadgets and gizmos were secondary. Starting with Honda City, it was just ...boring. Kia Selltos was a big surprise and much much better than I imagined or expected it to be. But then, finalised on Skoda Slavia for the experience it gave behind the wheel. Besides, the after sales service and reliability of my Rapid kind of tilted the scales in Skoda's favour. Last but not the least was also immediate availability of the Slavia. But then, is it worth the upgrade? If it were just me, I definitely wouldn't. I would absolutely keep Tbone with me for as long as I can. He's absolutely amazing. I have learnt a lot with him and he's special. Having said that, considering my better half who wants to enjoy driving, it was time to buy a new one. Not a big upgrade but fulfils a lot of other circumstantial requirements.

Absolutely love the name! Tbone! And, think of it this way - the new car suits two - it’s a win!

Oh my, this couldn’t have come at a better time! I am currently driving a 2013 Chevy Beat and one might say it is at the last leg of its life. But I for one definitely enjoy driving this compact little powerhouse every single time I am behind the wheel. I see a lot of upgrades happening here and there with all new models of cars flowing into the market. So, just yesterday and today, I have watched many videos of car reviews across different brands and segments, thinking it is time to upgrade. But after watching this video, I am questioning if all I need to get is a fresh coat of paint on my car and a set of new rear suspension. Thank you so much for making these amazing videos, they are definitely absolute value providers. Now, seems like I have a little more thinking to do! 😄

Driving a 6 years old VW Ameo diesel DSG. A pocket rocket. No plans to change it in coming years. Still the interior feels new. Has many good features like cruise control, Auto dimming ORVM, rain sensing wiper, all windows one touch down, roll down all windows with key, two airbags, traction control, excellent music system, 7 speed DSG gear box, 110 bhp 250 nm 1.5 lt TDI engine, 15 to 25 kmpl mileage, tilt and telescopic steering wheel and decent Reverse camera infact much better than Scorpio N. What it misses is Apple CarPlay or android auto which I don’t feel is a necessity now. It has got a decent 7 inch touch screen . Recently I got installed a exterior TPMS. So all good. And top of it premium built quality

Nice agreed. Don't want to upgrade but Delhi government has strange rules where a well maintained 10+ year old privately owned car is deemed more polluting than 15+ year old buses.

Nearly 4 years ago, I bought a used BMW 328i xDrive, 2015. Although I was just coming off a brand new car ( bought a 2017 Ford Fusion had it for 2 years before changing up), getting something that was a lot more car, performance and actually ended up being much more fuel efficient/fun, it has worked out great. Now that my car is approx 8 years old, outside of not having Android Auto/Car Play (I actually prefer the dark and more pleasing iDrive interface), I would really only be getting more safety nannies that have shown to decrease 'good' driver involvement. I'm now at the time that I can comfortably customize my vehicle to perform better while still being up to date. If I were to get a car of the same value new, compared to what my trade-in might be, I would be paying nearly 6x the cost.

Too true MK! There's a lot of people here in the comments echoing the idea that new cars are not that much fun to drive and what you are paying for mostly is creature comforts and nannies

Very nice content indeed ! Someone has to say this ! Owning a Renault Scala 1.5 dCi which is 9 years old. Still i don't find any reason for buying a new one 🙌
Superb substance guys it this is like a black hole that is increasing because of richness of the channels and the creators and being pushed into making a purchase that you never needed like my octavia VRs gen 1 and polo gt when ever i sit in those it is just pure joy and sending my vrs off was hell !! Simply put : tq
I got Chevy Cruze aka Diesel Rocket (2012).I was accompanying a very close friend of mine to test drives of new car. Honestly I didn’t find even a single stud that can challenge 2.0 even we are 10 years ahead. The only sublime options we had were Vitus 1.5 Gt and Skoda Octavia which are a great dent on your pocket as both of them costs more than 22+ Lakh. So i got a lesson that there is no car or engine left in this boom of Evs and pseudo Suv. My Diesel Rocket is undisputed champ. Going to hold onto that for my whole life. PS- It can still put mostly cars in her rear view mirror effortlessly.

Impressed with your suggestions, just found your channel and iam immediately into it. I am currently having a VW ameo (M)1.5 TDI which clocked 68k. I feel I am missing on the clutchless comfort maybe due to my intense knee pain sometimes along with hardness of clutch but I am happy with rest of my car. I am evaluating to fix a City clutch system(auto clutch) which is costing 55k onsite installation to bring in the comfort of an IMT. As many are now moving towards automatics, I am even happy with a clutchless transmission like imt.We value your suggestion on this and would appreciate if you can make a good video on this please as it would help many people who want to retain their manual cars, thanks in advance

@motorinc, Great video Kartik. Standing on the line right now, as I watch this video. Thinking of changing my 8 year old Fido Diesel as it’s becoming hectic to handle the heavy long travel clutch in bumper to bumper traffic for daily commute. Primarily looking to switch to a petrol automatic as primary usage is city commute. However, most petrol cars I tried so far is boring to say the least, nothing matches the smooth torque curve of the 1.5 TDCI with 100 horses ! Any suggestions on an ‘upgrade’ ?
