    The laugh and happiness at 2:10 is why we spend all the time & money. With the proportioning valve, it may be good that you don't have much traction. It can help show front vs. rear locking up first without getting too close to maximum threshold/grip. 6,800 RPM is calling!

    Yeah, that's one of the down sides of doing this stuff solo. The best I could do is set up a camera and drive by it, but those kinds of shots are meh, it needs to be dynamic. A big part of my videos is to show that anyone can do these kinds of upgrades and installs by themselves (if needed), but it does get lonely sometimes.

    Awesome to see all your hard work pay off. Moving forward I would look into sniper or other efi setup....it would be a game changer in driveability for you. Altitude driving, better drivability (warm-up intake issues/iac), better throttle response, no ethanol issues, controllable timing, better mpg and more HP, easy tuning...but more importantly u will be able to keep AFR in a safe place throughout the power band with future mods. With all the money u have in that engine I wouldn't want to allow any possibility of a lean condition.

  • @AndyKruseChannel

    Truth! I don't want to get into a lean condition either, but I'm not ready for EFI yet. I rather enjoy the challenges the carb offers, and it provides content for those still in the carb world. Hi Andy! Love how she sounds and performs. I love that little whine it makes. Glad you are happy. If I am not mistaken, the Air gap manifolds do not have heat crossover ports in that manifold. Even if you have them in your heads, they are blocked off. Street cars and race cars do not need the heat cross over ports to function. Cold weather daily drivers do. The air gap gives you a cooler denser charge, increases combustion effeciency. You will have no heat soak issues though, just have to get her nice and warmed up first. Keep the carb spacer though, it adds plenum volumn and give it more of a straighter shot/flow to the combustion chamber. I just plugged my heat crossover this week, new gaskets etc, cleaned and painted the Performer rpm. Dumb ass me dropped a 3/8 nut and sent went down oil hole in lifter valley. Heard a clink, praying i find it in my oil pan. Cheers from Motown/Dearborn.

    My advice, don't skimp on the seats, it will so improve a longer scenic drive,... I got some Procar seats. They are a bit pricy $1,100 for the pair, but they are like firm butter. In fact, I got them way in advance of installing them and in the interim I perched them up in the living room and it was the most comfy seat in the house. The are very adjustable and not rigid like a racing seat, the perfect cruising seat.

  • @AndyKruseChannel

    I agree, I don't plan to skimp on them, but it's difficult to drop some big money on something that is not easily returnable if they're not what you want. Where I live there is no place where I can try seats out, other than hoping a local car enthusiast would let me sit in their car. I am willing to pay a fair price for good seats, but I only want to do this once. :)

    You're absolutely right about the intake. I just installed the Shelby Underide Traction Bars last weekend. Man, so much better than the slapper bars. You probably remember but in my burnt out video you noticed the wheel hop. That's gone now. The car tracks so much straighter too. The Traction Master are the ones to get, and only $120ish. I'm sure Caltrcs are great but the money,,,, yikes.

    Nice Andy, congrats. I had a 70 Mustang with basically the Mach 1 drive train but in a coupe back about 15 years ago. I know the great feeling of running though those gears, mine was 4 speed. The 351 Cleveland, similar to your block was scary fast, and of course you always worry about breaking things. I had not a lot into it but still you don't want something you can't fix yourself to go wrong. Similar driving areas, a lonely forest road near Tahoe, so little traffic when I opened it up, but it was a car that could kill you if not careful with it. I eventually sold it to a guy in England, of all places!! He said his neighbors hated his "damn Yank car" when we woke everyone up in it early, on the foggy mornings in his village. Yeah, it depends on what you want, I have excellent condition, adjustable manually, seats from a 1985 Mercury Tracer in my 64 Ranchero, a cousin/daddy of your Mustang that I got for 100 bucks for the pair at a "pick and pull" junk yard in Sacramento. It was a tip from a guy on the Ranchero forums. They bolted right in and are high back and head rested cloth material, that I have protected, from greasy coveralls, with cheap vinyl covers. But a little more searching could have found maybe even leather seats, for more bucks of course. It will take some leg work, and access to some huge junk yards, of course, and check the forums to see what could work. Yeah, paying over a grand per seat is just nuts, and they are a problem, for me, being made in China, to add insult to "financial injury" for most of the ones on eBay and other places. ;D

    Your problem with the Air Gap manifold may be the fact that by it's design it runs cooler than the performer, it may be so cold initially that the fuel is falling out of atomization and turning to droplets. The fact that it runs great once it's warm may support this. Just my 2 cents worth. Glad you're so happy with the way the car goes ,it's always great when you feel your money was well spent.

    Dang Andy, this is too weird. As I watch your videos I find we are running into the same issues, I just bought new seats which I will be installing this weekend. My new seats will adjust and recline and are of course much firmer. In short, I found the right seats for my car and my style of driving. Here is the answer to your seating question. Only you can define what seating will be right for YOU and YOUR car. Price will be a factor BUT you will make the right decision as you put that aside and choose what is right for the car. Good luck Andy.

  • @AndyKruseChannel

    @AndyKruseChannel

    Yes, I understand that the decision is up to me, but I'm asking for input. We don't get to "try before you buy" when it comes to seats and I really don't want to buy something based on price or looks. I'm not opposed to paying a premium price for a premium product, but there are a lot of "Sony" products out there, their price is high because of the name but not necessarily a superb product. I know TMI is big in our hobby, but it seems like their custom upholstered seats are the product of choice (way outside of my budget), but people don't seem to rave about their entry level or "regular" seats. That's where I'd rather go elsewhere, the regular TMI seats are pricey for something that nobody seems to be super excited about. Then there's other brands that are popular in the racing world (Sparco, Recaro, Corbeau, Kirkey, etc) but most of what they offer are full racing setups or something that screams "I wanna be a racer". I'm trying to find the balance of safety, support, looks, price, and comfort all while trying to keep it in the realm of the seats "fitting" with the car. It's a taller order, I know, but that's why I was asking my viewers for recommendations. :)

My new seats are so far above what I currently have it's impossible to be unhappy, that said I know that spending more would have given me a better product, BUT for my car and budget it is the perfect set of seats for me. It seems all your decisions to this point have been very good, this one will be no different after your homework is completed. Good Luck Andy.

    @@AndyKruseChannel Sorry man, seems you want to "have your cake and eat it too". We all do that with cars. I'm going though that with two needed carb self rebuilds or just new purchases now, for my 64 Ranchero and my 67 Cyclone. You, on the other hand, have got to decide if you want "China cheapy" seats that are sort of ok or "pull the pin" for the big buck custom ones. Very little in between those choices. If this was daily driver, I'd fret about it but if it is not, I'd go with a decent set that looks good and is tolerable to drive occasionally and be done. That's why I recommend looking at some later model Ford seats that could be adapted to your needs and get from a junk yard or eBay and move on. Then get yourself a real piggy bank and fill it up for the ITM (It Takes MONEY) seats next year or something, or do that now,... and just wait!! LOL ;D

    @AndyKruseChannel

    Жыл бұрын

    @@eddievantailn2882 That's almost a deal breaker, to be honest. A while back I purchased some seats from another car that seemed fairly low profile (from looking at them and how shallow the seat rails were relative to the seat) and I had the same issue where I was physically sitting taller in the car. I set them aside and pursued other upgrades on the car. Then I did those lowered seats pans in my car (which gave me about an inch of head room) and after the install was complete, I retried those seats again. While it wasn't as bad as before, they still put me too high in the car. I've debated about doing the MTF head liner to get a little more clearance, but at this point it feels like I'm trying to modify the car to make these seats (that are not that important) fit instead of finding seats that already fit. Your comment about the new seat position height is almost invaluable. Nobody else is talking about this and these are the kinds of things people should know before they drop $!k on some aftermarket seats. Thanks for the heads up!! :)

    Regarding seats, I mean you are kinda going with a stock looking approach so it's tempting to stick with stock "looking" templates. I did a recap towards the end of last summer where I talk a little more about the Panhard Bar, maybe that cover's what you're looking for? Either way, if you were looking at new rear sway bar or a Panhard bar for flattening the rear of the car so you can partially steer with the throttle, it's hands down the Panhard Bar, any day of the week. The Watts Link does the same thing, but they tend to be more expensive and is a more complex install. If we take my new motor out of the equation, the Panhard Bar is my favorite modification I've done to this car, and that includes doing the T5 swap. I don't know if Maier Racing is going to offer their Panhard Bar anymore, but Mike Maier Inc (they are brothers that run both of those two companies) sells a Panhard Bar that is just as good. If I were to get another Mustang, I'd buy that Bar from Mike Maier. :)

    It can be difficult to decide what to do when someone on VMF is telling you one thing and the guy that actually built your motor is telling you another. Also, it depends on the RPM range the engine was built for. Things like quality valve springs can be the limiting factor on peak RPM. Sometimes it's the Cam design. There can be quite a few factors that ultimately determine the peak RPM. If it's purely insurance to keep the RPMs low, you definitely won't be breaking parts, but you could be leaving power on the table by doing so. Seats, kirkey seats have no suspension. They are good at the track but not very comfortable on the street. You look like a big man. Most seats I have tried are somewhat small. They fit me pretty good, but I'm a small guy. Car shows usually have a variety of seats. You might see if someone would let you set in them. Also autocross, and track days.

    Yeah, I've moved the Kirkeys to lower on the list, but the sad thing is I still haven't made up my mind yet. :)

    Tempting, but I'm on a razor thin edge of tearing up the trans and/or the 8" diff. I've got upgraded internals in both areas, but I just got this girl on the road, I don't want to break her yet. Although, it would all me to upgrade to even better parts..... :)
