Installed these on a riding mower kzread.infoUgkxetgfkJxfdT_B2vGYP-uNTLaBbim9OKTD . They were sharp out of the box, although I've never liked blade edges that were coated...not quite as sharp as I personally want. Using my belt sander, I removed the coating from the cutting edges and refined the edge enough to shave with them. So far, after three runs, these blades are holding up as expected. Even after hitting a few fallen 1/2 inch or so branches, the edges are still sharp as heck. No edge dings, no warping, etc. As far as installing them, the cutouts were of the proper size and shape to fit my aging Craftsman mower. Very satisfied.

Ok, here's a few tips for everybody. Firstly, Pete seems like a really nice guy. He's trying to help other people and that's good. Also, he gave away a brand new set of blades too. But Pete missed a few things and got some others wrong. Ok, here we go. Pete's right....the bolt heads are metric. 30mm to be precise. This equals 1.18" not 1 1/4". You won't of course get an imperial socket that fits. This is important. We all saw (and Pete acknowledged) the socket slip. This is a surefire way to round off bolt heads and hurt your knuckles enough to make you say naughty words. Just go out and buy a 30mm socket. Now while we're on the subject, someone below in the comments asked why you would give away $50- worth of blades but not go and buy a $50- impact driver. That's a fair question as far as it goes but let me warn you.....use an impact driver to undo the bolts (you shouldn't need to but it sure is easier) but DON'T do the bolts up with an impact driver. This brings me to the next thing. Pete MAY have replaced the washers and bolt the correct way but he might not have either. We don't know because he didn't tell us and it's important to do this correctly. It's not just the order of the washers. They ALL have to be the right way up. The two thin washers are domed. These act as a clutch so that, if the blade hits something solid, you don't jar the belt or the gear box and drive train. They are design to slip in this situation. This is why you don't tighten the bolt with an impact driver. Do that and you will almost certainly over tighten the bolt and washers and negate the clutch action. The thick washer that mates with the shaft also needs to be fitted correctly. The shaft has a slight taper and the inside of the thick washer has a matching taper. You MUST ensure that the two tapers mate correctly. Now, there's more to tell but I don't have the time. Thanks Doug, your video answered questions about why my blades are spinning freely. Now to try and get the bolts off so I can clean up the washers and file things like you showed. Not sure how I'll be able to stop the center spindle from moving when trying to remove the blade that is spun as I can't easily access the top to hold it in place. Any suggestions?

Supposed to put a washer on before the blade. Check the video. Taking off was thick washer thin washer blade thin washer. Lol. But thank you for the video anyhow. 👍🏼👍🏼 Enjoy the monster

Pete one of the washers is conical, that's the one that goes next to the blades. (looks like a small mountain coming out of the blade) That's what they use instead of lock washers. also a short 12 to 18 inch piece of 2 by 4 is good for bracing the blades. Paint it Kubota orange so you or the wife don't throw it out. When you winterize. Change the gearbox oil like usual. When you clean up the deck, final step in cleaning should be a wire brush in a drill or grinder. Then paint with Rustoleum primer and then Kubota orange. The no stick paint is just a hype, don't waste your money. My deck (BX 2360) looks as good now as the day I brought it home, that was the summer of 2010.

Good to see you back Pete! For future reference the bolt s use a 30mm socket (and the spindle nuts on the top of the deck ar 27mm) The blade bolts should be torked between 72 -87 ft-lbs (noticed you had a torque wrench ;-)

Yes, I noticed that too. When he took off the first blade it was thin, thick, thin. When he replaced he seemed to do thin, thin, thick. Otherwise a nice look at the underside and the setup. I''ll be changing mine with the deck still attached. 48 inch deck and when I was removing some wire jammed in the blades, I noticed that it seems the blades are on upside down with the sharp leading edge on top.We have only just bought it. A job for the morning.... no wonder the cut was a little ragged......🤔

I am glad to see your videos again. You should look at seeing what is the correct size socket and maybe get it. I don't think that it's to expensive. It is probably cheaper than replacing that special bolt.

g1900 torque spec is 75lbs, just took the old blades off with a chunk of wood and an adjustable wrench, my wife did the center one, new to us mower. F150 lug nuts torque to 150 lbs for reference. Also i recommend anti-seize on the threads, not fun digging sheared bolts out. 28 mm by the way.

Correct socket size is 30mm . If you don’t have metric 1 3/16 will work just as good .

I keep an extra set of blades for my lawn tractor and push mower as well....much easier and quicker to be able to just swap a fresh set onto the mower and go, then sharpen the ones I removed when I have a spare moment. With my lawn tractor I have a mow-jack that I just raise the front end of the mower off the ground and can easily do the blade swaps and not have to remove the deck....can't do that on a BX LOL, mow-jack doesn't even adjust that wide I don't think, and its only rated for like 500 pounds LOL. The deck on the BX looks to be built somewhat like the deck on my old garden tractor, its heavy, but it'll last forever. The deck on my lawn tractor looks like they used recycled soda cans to build it with LOL. Pushing me more and more towards picking up the 60" deck when I pickup my BX. Leave the lawn tractor to do the little stuff....although I only have an acre, about 1/2 of it or a little more is pasture which if I don't keep up with it becomes pretty taxing on the lawn tractor....so the BX may get a 60" mower deck. Can't wait to get my tractor, so many things to do, the chore list keeps growing, that BX is gonna be working pretty hard for a while.

It was between JD and Kubota and the JD dealer shot themselves in the foot first by brushing me off when I was inquiring about their 1025R...no demo, no seat time, just wanted my wallet, and a ridiculous price tag with proprietary implements...no thanks. Kubota dealer was extremely helpful asking what I was needing a tractor for, property size, space, etc. Even offered to bring a couple tractors out to my place that I could try and see which suited me, but I knew already it would have to be a BX due to my space limitations in my shop, and the dealer agreed and pointed to the BX2680 as my best option for PTO implements now and in the future. Thought about Mahindra but their dealer here is a joke, friend of mine has been waiting 3-1/2 weeks so far for a hydraulic part for the loader of course proprietary Mahindra part. My neighbor had 2 Kubota's I believe a B-Series was his first one then he upgraded to an L-Series later on. He loved his never had any problems, both of them sold at the estate auction for almost what he bought them new for. Sadly if I had the money then I would have bought one of them even though it wouldn't have worked on my property, could have made for a nice trade-in on a BX LOL.

Pete... that cart really makes changing blades easy! I lift mine with a chain on my loader... because I don’t have a cart. 🤔 Just curious... how come you don’t rotate the guide wheels 90degrees when you pull it out from under your tractor? It scrapes up the tires on mine and requires a lot more muscle than I want to invest. What’s your secret? I enjoyed the vid.... keep ‘em coming!

That's what I use on my lawn mowers....works great, and you don't have to struggle with trying to keep the blade from spinning. I don't use the impact to reinstall the blade bolts just to remove them.

Thank you for the video. I'm really struggling to get mine off. They have been on for 35 years. Looking at your deck as is, do your blades rotate clockwise or anti clockwise? I see you loosened your nuts anti clockwise, does that mean your blades spin clockwise? Andrew from Australia.

Stragglers left after you've made a pass with the KM mower may also be a clue that you're moving too fast, or the RPMs need to be increased. Blades as bad as you've shown makes me wonder how many rocks (& dirt) you've tried to trim down. As you stated, sharp blades are essential to maintain a healthy lawn - those should have been change a long time ago. The edge of the deck shows that you've been kinda brutal when you mow. An easy way to remove the mower deck is to pull the pins on the anti-scalping wheels, turn them 90 degrees (Kubota provides an extra hole in the mounting shaft for this) and then you can roll the deck out from underneath the tractor. I use my FEL to lift the deck vertical so I can remove the blades - don't need another toy (the deck dolly) taking up space.

I mow at the highest RPMs possible. And yes like I said in the video, I have a challenging lot. I do hit rocks for sure since I just had a pool put in and the ground and sod were tore up. I think I also said that I was going to change them out but had the wrong blades last yr... But then I procrastinated getting a new set.

You need to invest in an impact and change blades without taking deck off. Done it on Kubota deck 23 years. Love my 0 turn!

Because I don't have the proper tooling to do it and I rather have the shop do it.

Impact driver would be easier. No need to blcok anything up and nowhere near he effort.

My worst fear has been realized, I put them all on upsidedown

Gives away $50 blades... Won't buy a $50 impact driver......

@@KubotaMonsterBX23S Use your google machine. Depends on what battery brand you've invested in. For me it's Ryobi. Low end Ryobi Impact Driver is $45-$50 on amazon. And it's free or close to it from Home Depot during Ryobi days (when I get the 2 battery pack with free tool and sell the extra batteries I don't need on marketplace in the fall at or near cost). Before I had my Ryobi I used a cheap air impact driver from harbor Freight. Their Central Pneumatic's are $47, and as low as $19.99. They also currently have a corded Chicago Electric for $50. Heck.. Even walmart caries a Lithium Ion impact driver (with battery included) for less than $50. Yes you get what you pay for. The occasional blade change doesn't put a lot of wear and tear on things, however. Side note - Why do you move your board as you go from blade to blade? They're synced via the belt. Blocking one should block them all.

@@PhilHilton One thing Iv'e learned over my 30yrs of being a aircraft mechanic, is that certain tools you "can't" go cheap on. I $50 impact driver is going to last, and a decent impact driver is gonna cost at least a few hundred bucks. And there is no rush for me to get one, when I have a set of sockets that work fine. And the reason for switch the 2 by 4 out to each blade is so I can hold it while I'm loosening and tightening the blades. It wasn't in there tight enough like you can see in the video, where I had to hold it with with my leg in place. This system works for me for now, sorry if it didn't work for you. Everyone has there own way of doing things. When I'm ready, I will buy a impact gun that I know will last me a while. Just not ready to buy one just yet I guess. Thanks for watching.

@@PhilHilton Not so. The 3 blades are connected by a rubber belt. It'll slip on the pulley when tightening or loosening any one of the blades.
