Something I tell people is that, "you aren't lazy, you're trying to do something that you either don't want to do or you aren't comfortable doing. Deal with that first, fix yourself at least a little bit first."

This is verbatim very good advice I've gotten from my dad when I was younger (minus the tech stuff). She's a real one for that, but having a Vtuber teach you how to adult is lowkey crazy 🤣

Most vtubers are hardworking people. Try to set up a stream yourself. It's not so easy. Plus you have to practice speaking a certain way while also paying attention to chat. It's easy to learn from vtubers since cartoons are more appealing than real people while the message about discipline is the same.

@@riverdays364 So true, but once you learn the youtube/livestream speech cadence, trust me corporate meetings&presentations are never the same again. People will actually listen. It's like magic!

I'm starting to realize, more and more, that I need to listen to this woman for advice. I don't know exactly what she did for a job, but I bet it's closer to what my education is in than most things. Combined with her OCD habits and tactics to control it, sounding incredibly applicable to my ADHD/Autistic ass, I sometimes feel like I'm looking at a more successful version of me.

i think she's mostly right about motivation not being real but she's also forgetting about flow state. i used to draw for like hours at a time, not because i was good at it or enjoyed it but because i was doing stuff that was the appropriate level of challenge for my abilities, and all of that was still at a computer

Couple sidenotes Taking an "uncomfortable" chair is not a very good choice, the discomfort might distract you enough to be more than just irritable, hindering your work progress Better way to phrase is "take a 'less comfortable' chair than the one you use", that way you have comfort while still creating a small reward of sitting in a better chair when you finish with your work Comfort can sometimes be impeding, but health is important too The discord thing though is something that i can confidently second Drop your tasks/reminders/whatevers in an easily-accessible space and delete the things that you no longer need from there and it'll boost your management a tiny bit Try to have only one source of notes and tasks as taking more time to check those notes means having more time to doubt yourself whether you should or should not do the thing, and the amount of places to check may also overwhelm you

My work space is also my entertainment space. This is still functional for me because my hobbies are also a sort of work, and if I need to or suddenly want to work on something I will open a tab with that work related thing, and as I go to close every tab, I will eventually be back on that tab and back to work until I am satisfied and ready to close it. Or I may open it again to check it later! The routine was simply using every tab, and closing every tab that I am finished with using. For example, I have developed a habit of, at least once a day as part of my entertainment, opening up my webcomics that are saved on my home page. As I do so, my business email and any other important websites I need to check are sprinkled in between the comics, and I will eventually check those work ones as soon as I am finished catching up on, say, my manga.

Yeah true, motivation isn’t real. I find motivation is like a useless coping method for a lackluster inspiration which is temporary useless for many individuals and don’t get me wrong some will go through properly, rest not so much and many will be in their procrastination shells. As far as my experience goes, It’s better to have someone to compete with and push yourself cuz that method definitely works for many individuals and creates a mindset to not lose. Last but not least treat yourself to something good after each achievement it gives you the best boost and a satisfying feeling of accomplishment.

The different place advice doesn't work for me as I absolutely need a desk for most of my work stuff, and very much like to have it for much of my fun stuff, and I don't have enough space for that in my current flat. But otherwise there's many great advice here. And for when I ever move to different flat, enough space for two desks would be a primary requirement (e.g. by having a dedicated study).

You don't necessarily need different places. The concept extends to your whole atmosphere. Use a specific light while you're working and a different one while gaming. Or wear a specific pair of shoes while working and take them off immediately when you're done. Pretty much anything will work, and they can be combined.

  • @Jcannnon

I guess I disagree that motivation isn't real because motivation is the underlying mechanism that keeps you on track and disciplined. Not saying everything else she said isn't important but Motivation is the bedrock of it all. I think that inspiration fits alot better than motivation for concepts that aren't real.

@@somedudewatchintv5297I think the message was that motivation just gets the ball rolling. You can’t depend on being motivated for a full work day. But you can use motivation to get out of bed. The rest is just habit and committing to the task once you start.

  • @mathewgagnier9432

@@AkaFigga Honestly, it's situational. Some people can stay motivated for long periods and not tucker themselves out mentally. It also depends on what you want to keep motivated with and how challenging that might be. Ultimately, it boils down to who the person is and how motivated they are in any situation. If someone's a depressed person, has self-doubt, and has terrible anxiety? They may need more motivation to do well. Motivation is easier to manage if you have a happy family life and good friends and can generally shoulder and overcome issues that arise in your life. I'm horrible with motivation, but I can respect those who use it efficiently to make their own lives easier.

If you need the kind of advice she's giving, you don't have enough motivation to rely solely on motivation, so it may as well not be real.
