Deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame far more than many that have already made it, not to mention he was basically the baddest man in the league at 225 lbs.

Like he said if they had had Roethlisburger they might have won a couple of Super Bowls, they didn't, they came up short. But still they were some of the best NFL defenses of that decade for sure, they made Pittsburgh proud, and reminded many of the glory years of the 70's!

I watched Lloyd his entire career but I'm guessing the answer to your question is the other three guys you mentioned not only have rings (Rod's with the Ravens) but also all three of them won Defensive Player of the Year. The other three also all played in three Super Bowls a piece (Although Harrison wasn't a starter in 2005 but still, and Rod with three different teams, although he was out all of 95 from opening day until the Super Bowl) Regardless, they all have a presence in three Super Bowls with a DPOY award

Greg Lloyd was always one of my most favorite players growing up. That whole Defense was just fun to feel as though we were a part of it. But, he really earned my admiration for something he did off the field. I remember sending him a football card that had a great picture of him celebrating a tackle (most likely a sack). I asked if he could sign the card for me, sent a return envelope, and the next thing I knew... in the mail... I got it back, signed!! It instantly became a prized possession. Just wish he could add HOF to his signature!! Just wanna send out a Special Thanks to Mr. Lloyd and the Steelers for making this happen!! Go Steelers!! To steal a motto... I'm not sure who the greatest Steeler is and I do remember the 70's. Whoever the best was does not matter..Lloyd is my favorite one. The Steelers were stacked in the 70's. By the late 80's when Lloyd came in they were not very competitive. Greg was at the forefront of the Steelers resurgence. His demeanor and fierce play style brought back that hardcore Steeler brand of football and return to winning ways.

In the Spring of 1996 I came home from work one day and saw on ESPN that Neil O'Donnell had signed with the Jets. We all knew it was coming but it was still devastating when it became a reality. To cope, I pulled out an NFL yearbook that I had that had every team's address in it. I wrote a letter to Neil, care of the Jets. In its entirety it read: Mr. O'Donnell, AVOID LLOYD. I went to the mailbox, dropped the letter in and I was over my grief. True story. 😆

Many don't know, but Lloyd was also an outstanding baseball player in high school and in college. I took his place a few years later in center field. Yup, he played center. Dude had speed and an arm. He showed up for one of our high school practices and took a little bp and was hitting dingers one after another. FYI, he was just plain nasty in high school as well. He was once penalized for "hitting too hard." We knew he would make at the next level, either in baseball or football.

@@nomo9344 thanks for the info, not sure if your aware of his childhood backstory but it's about as heartbreaking as you can get and he never let that be an excuse that was going to keep him from being successful in life...now with that ht(6-2), 2/3% body fat and adonis-like body frame was probably going to get him through football to the college level, but that childhood experience played a huge part in what took his play to that next level, that and the fact that georgia wouldn't even offer him a scholarship, one of the reasons he attened fort valley was to make sure that georgia was aware of his ability/play...plus he is a 4th degree black belt in taekwondo, just found and listened to an interview(not your normal interview) from 2013 that i promise if you find 16 minutes of free time you won't be sorry, in it you can find out what he thinks of and calls today's football player and what he says of the game(and remember this is 2013-james harrison was still playing-and most people would say that the game is far softer in 2022 than 2013). here's the link: www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/news/former-steeler-greg-lloyd-has-strong-feelings-about-todays-nfl-and-players/

@@chrisayres2340 Yeah, man..well aware of his back story and witnessed its aftermath firsthand. On the long walk from the locker room to the practice field, he openly shared his disdain for his own teammates, which was sure to strike fear in anyone. During spring practice in high school, we were running a drill known as "small ball," which was basically 3 on 3 between the cones. As a running back, I counted to see which group I'd be lined up against, and damn if Lloyd wasn't in the opposing group. As the guy who would run the ball, I suddenly "lost" my mouthpiece and was not allowed to run the drill on that rep. My stealthy move probably saved my life! Some might call it cowardice, but I prefer to call it self-preservation brilliance under pressure. Thanks also for the links. I'll be sure to check it out.

@@nomo9344 one more, sorry, but thanks for that story, i always kind of assumed that he was/would be that way with his teammates, especially at that age, as i played with similar type people all throughout my life...in regards to the "mouthpiece incident" i would call you "genious, next level type" intelligence and intuition on that move, i wouldn't have thought of that, in fact my first practice ever the biggest kid on the team, later played qb in college was playing guard and i was playing ilb(had no idea what i was doing i was just watching the back follwing the flow and he pulled from the guard position and not only pancaked me but i grabbed onto something as i was going down and he kept going, my hand placement was right at his waist and i got my thumb wrapped in the loop of his pants string and it completely tore the skin off my thumb as it dragged me about 2 to 3 yards(sorry for the long story but he was the coaches son and acted like he was better than everybody because he was and we weren't even supposed to be going full speed and he knew that i had no idea what i was doing), jamie asher who played tight end for the eagles and redskins was the same, but i had no run'ins with him but other's did...take care and be easy!!!

there is a great article from espn, can't post the link because it keeps getting deleted, but in your search engine if you enter "espn article with quotes from james harrison and greg lloyd" and click on the article titled Quotes: James Harrison vs. Greg Lloyd - ESPN from Jul 15, 2011, it is an awesome point survey that involves quotes from either harrison or lloyd and you have to answer which one said it, if anybody does this, post your score(just takes a few minutes)....anybody who is a fan of the steeler mentality will love it!!!

"This isn't one of those games -- unlike the commissioner and all those SOBs want it to be -- to put on PBS so all the little kids can watch it, and they can show it in the classroom. It's not a game like that. It's a violent damn game. It's a game that players play with anger, frustration and emotion. And's that how I play the game. If people don't like it, so be it." quote from the great greg lloyd

greg lloyd quote regarding children from western world cultures and eastern(asian) cultures: "We train our kids to be happy. They train their kids to be successful. If you can learn to be disciplined, especially at an early age, you can be successful at anything. taken from a 1999 post-gazette article

Should be in the HOF by name - but you can say that about a LOT of great Steelers. But Lloyd and Greene were true greats, Kevin is rightly in, Greg should go in too.

Wrestling will make you a better tackler as well. Ray Lewis was one of the top wrestlers in the state of Florida in the early nineties.

Certainly don’t wanna be nit picky but the Steelers were 11-5 in 92. But he was spot on about everything else. And they did have the #1 seed flukily. Lost to GB in favre’s first start. The bad Woodson game. Lost to the browns in Cleveland. Lost to the vikes 6-3. Bills 28-20 and got smoked by the bears in Chicago. Bunny starter the last 3 games and went 1-2

Super Bowl 30 everyone played well except for the quarterback Bam Morris was running over people Neil O'Donnell wanted to leave Pittsburgh threw two interceptions and there wasn't a Steelers close to the ball had he thrown the ball away those two times Pittsburgh would have had another Super Bowl!

Those mid 90s Blitzburgh teams were so good even without having a quarterback, Neil and Slash sucked.. That Dallas Superbowl was a robbery I remember it like it was yesterday, Neil threw 2 interceptions directly to the other team. I swear he got paid to do it.
