Time Lapse - Construction of Gigantic Igloo

Ойын-сауық

It snowed 22" February 12th - 13th 2014 in Roanoke, Va. I had to do something with the snow. A giant igloo was built. We worked about 3 to 5 hours a day for 4 days. This is the final time lapse video. Shot with an iPhone 4S and the Timelapse App.
*The igloo wasn't completed for fear of the ceiling falling in on unsuspecting visitors inside the structure. The blocks weighed about 50 pounds each. During the next big snow I hope to fully complete a similar sized igloo.*

I remember having four feet of snow in my front yard when I lived in Flagstaff. Prescott is the best though. You get a couple decent storms in winter but most of the time it snows enough that it looks really beautiful when you get up in the morning but it's basically gone by mid-afternoon. I have also lived in Buckeye . . . I cannot fully express just how much that sucks. Arizona has it all. You just have to find the right place.

As a kid we would take our Coleman Canvas Camping tent... set it up if we knew we were getting a big snow storm. Then We would spray it down with warm water as it started to snow making it a big icy. As it snowed it totally covered the tent...and we had the opening already established by holding the canopy door cover, open with stacked boxes. Once it was totally covered with snow, we sprayed it again with a little warm water to freeze it up like ice blocks. When we were ready for our winter camping adventure ..we took the boxes out and just had the opening to go in and out...then each time it was going to snow we put the boxes back in the opening to keep accessibility always open. Best IGLOO ever!!

Ridiculously huge. You are the man! Crime to not finish your mega igloo after all of that work. I made same kind of igloo but wedged the lid of the bin in the center of the bin lengthwise and then packed the snow in each side which splits the blocks into slimmer blocks. With wet snow this works fantastically well and they don't weigh as much. Definitely the biggest igloo and the most work I've ever seen. The roof won't fall if you start angling in two rows earlier then you don't have to angle in as steeply at the top until it's almost closed up. Still man.... WOW!!! - Laddie in Pennsylvania

+MrGenedancingmachine I swear honest to god the last time I was here, the music was different - I don't recognize that song at all. Maybe he had to remove the original audio for copyright reasons... This sounds like it could be a track by Kevin MacLeod because that's who everybody on youtube gets their royalty-free music from, but I'm really not sure.

That was amazing, just for the social aspect. First, it was just one man with a mission. Then, the wife saw ambition and joined. Soon the neighbors took notice. Later the neighbors helped a bit. Much later when the project looked like it was actually going to happen, the neighbors helped a lot. I got saddened when you and your wives coats came off because I knew it was warming up and the structure wouldn't last. Great video, thanks for this.

In the end, spray it lightly with water. Spraying it will cause it to freeze and then it will be less likely for it to fall apart

I used to spray mist my igloos and forts all the time as the last thing to do before coming inside before bed at night not just to make it more solid but to protect it from snowball fights and attacks. It's way better defensively if you get a colder night for it to freeze up. Without that the snowballs take out good chunks. Take it from me I've built them since since a small boy.
