Since the end of 1969, Led Zeppelin had been planning to film one of their live performances for a planned documentary about the band. In July 1973, during the band's US concert tour, manager Peter Grant contacted director Joe Massot, who put together a film crew for the final leg of Led Zeppelin's tour, which began in Baltimore on July 23, 1973. Massot then filmed the group's three concerts at Madison Square Garden in July 1973.
The Song Remains the Same was finally completed three years later, 18 months behind schedule and well over budget - Peter Grant later joked: "It was the most expensive home movie ever made."
The film did well at the box office, and for a long time “The Song Remains the Same” was the only official video document available to the group's fans. Many now regard this live recording as a historical document that captured the band at the height of their popularity and paints an accurate picture of the music industry and global show business in the 1970s.
At #1973fest, Moscow tribute band Time Arrow played the most striking numbers from this Led Zeppelin concert program, accurately conveying the mood of the unbridled 1970s.
#1973fest is the latest festival of a series of unique music tribute festivals in Russia, where the performances of all artists are linked to a specific calendar year in the history of world culture and society. The festival took place on March 25, 2023 at the Base Club in Moscow, Russia.
