Timber Rattlesnake VS Squirrel
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This is a 6 foot+ Timber Rattler we were watching when a curious Squirrel decided to see if it was faster than the snake. Includes a slow motion replay. We watched this live on Dogwood Mountain cam at USeeWildlife.com

i swear squirrels are like natures ninjas
holy mother that squirrel was fast.
That dove is just oblivious.
Has the squirrel landed yet or is he in orbit?
Thank you! It was absolutely amazing to watch him hunt day after day. We've learned that they are not as successful as we had thought. :)
Thank goodness for replay and slow motion. :) It appears the Squirrel knew it was there and what was about to happen. It was sneaking in to take a closer look.
Dayamm that squirrel took off like a rocket, lol!
didn't even see the snake until it struck
That Squirrel got some Life saving Reflexes, Damn he/she went Fying D:
squirrels are fast little bastards
Very true. We wacthed this one over 10 days and 3 others off and on and witnessed many strikes without success. There is another clip here of this same snake striking at a chipmunk in the open that was about as close as it could be without a hit. It actually touched it and spun it around mid-air. We had to slow it down a lot to verify.
Did Not See the Squirrel until the Moment he Jumped.. What camouflage and What Reflexes!
I'm from the Arkansas River Valley and I ran over a timber rattler riding four wheelers that was about 5 feet long. I got it with both tires of my Polaris Sportsman. Scared the dickens out of me. I've seen two more 4-5 foot timber rattlers in Piney WMA as well on camping trips. I'd hate to meet one in the forest one-on-one. My reflexes aren't as fast as that squirrels. Yikes. Awesome video.
that pigeon is a bouse, doesn't even stop eating when the snake strikes
Boy can that squirrel jump.
that squirrels got ups
We've learned a lot watching these on the live cams here at USeeWildlife(dot)com over the past year. It's nice to see them up close and personal without the risk. I checked our forum posts and it looks like we saw our first ones show up on cam the end of May last year so we should start seeing them again very soon.
wow that was close! i wonder if the squirrel was jumping out of shocked or it was actually trying to save its life.
i've read that timber's like to rest their heads on stumps or logs and just chill, the log gets used as a runway by rodents and the snake gets alerted by the vibrations through the wood. i just found a young timber last night. first i've ever seen here in texas in 20 years but it was D.O.R. Sucked pretty bad.
Air tastes good, huh?!?!?!
@kidpork29 I live in Maine. The state says that we have no more here but many people have reported seeing them.
The two have been dubbed the names "Monty "and "Speedy" by our viewers. Monty is still hunting on the Dogwood Mountain cam live right now and Speedy is still out there running around.
How many strikes actually result in hits for these snakes?
@REDTOP4LIFE Yes, we were able to observe this one personally after spotting on cam. Several others spotted on this and other cams were in the 4 to 5 foot range, but this one was definitely 6' or better. We estimated approx 6' 2-4"
he jumped like six foot
Thanks for the info. They stay pretty small here in Pennsylvania. Often they're not much bigger than a garter snake.
Yes, definayely timber. It is in the Ozark Mountains of north central Arkansas. We saw 5 different ones this past Spring/Summer on 3 of the live cams here, but one was by far the largest. We estimated it to be just over 6 feet.
yeah there are definitely rattlesnakes in parts of the ozarks, esp the more ecologically intact parts around the buffalo river afaik
These guys might move faster than a mongoose does (not kidding), that or they know what a bullsnake (what I've seen videos of them taking on) versus a rattlesnake smells like. But, its fair to say the pit viper didn't get an excellent lock on the squirrel, if it had it may have been another story.
that squirrel got lucky
Are you sure that was a timber rattlesnake? It seemed way too big. What region of the US are you?
I doubt this is a 6' Timber. 4 1/2 at the most. Have you personally observed these specimens without the cameras?
nono he is goku !! lmao
looks like a more of a 3.5-4 foot snake.
l0ol i love dbz
