Hi Dell, thanks for taking us on tour with this build. I am specialised in custom building these types of outside structures (and many more), kinda timber framing and have never seen a kit, though I know about them. I think many parts are CNC'd which is very reproducable and looks like a fair bit of kit. In the Netherlands for some reason most gardens are 5,5 meter whilst al these kits are either 5 or 6 and most clients wants the full back build in for example so these kits lack flexibility. But you also showed that being a carpenter this become a quick job, I have heard from people taking like 12 days for such a build. Have a great weekend, Tom

Loving the use of the new toy at the end! If that was my dog “helping out” it would have taken me another day, just searching for missing knee supports 😂. Doesn’t look a bad bit of kit for a prefab some of these things are terrible but it looked liked they have some QC before they go out, other than the panel perhaps. Thanks for posting

Not a bad looking kit. And it almost went together without any alteration. Bonus brownie points and two gold stars to that company. I built something similar from scratch a couple of years ago for a Plumber mate of mine out of Cypress. He wanted to put a cover over a very large Spa bath in his back yard. I drew up something similar to that and got it engineered and council approved. Then built it over the top of the Spa. Mine had the ever present Aussie tin roof on it though in matching colours to his house roof. I think it looks more the part where yours is. Against a modern home mine looked different but it was what he wanted and does the job.

Another lovely job Del. I chucked up a gazebo myself a few years ago and you're right about getting everything trued up - it's worth it. I know I sound like yer mam but don't forget as it warms up that sunscreen is part of your PPE. We lost Sean Locke not long ago and he put that down to working on site in the sun before he made it in comedy. My only excuse for nannying is that I work for the NHS and it's my job to look after you if I can. Fringe benefit - you'll still look 30 in ten years if you slap on the cream. Creep, creep. Lovely job. I built my Atlas 3.2m x 4m last year, solo, and with two tight corners. It’s great but some of the quality leaves a bit to be desired; especially where they randomly staple the protective sheets. Shingles were a challenge for me with limited access equipment and I built the ridge in from each end finished capping in the middle. I also have two full panelled sides . 1 year on and I love sitting in it. Tell your mate to keep an eye out for a bit of resin weep. Happy to share some photos if you want.

2 days!??! Great quality but 3.5 to 4 minimum days I think for two guys shingles were the slow bit 😮

class that del, my mothers been on at me to build her a gazebo or whatever theyre called in her garden. ill have to show her this link. suspect it would be quite cost effective for the smaller types than buying the timber and making the whole lot up. also save some valuable time when ive got plenty to be getting on with anyway

I like the dunster house stuff. I bought a kit for the kids, a climbing frame thing about 9 years ago. It was very good and has lasted. You would struggle to buy the timber to make it for the price. 👍🏻

Bought a similar gazebo from Dunster House, took 2 experienced guys 4 days to erect. Not 2 men’s 2 days as indicated by Dunster House, lots of unnecessary time sponges ie sorting out the pieces which would of been better numbered or at least labeled, especially time consuming fitting the individual planks for the roof sections, which could of been pre built. Just fitting the shingles a whole day as it took half a day to hand cut the ridges which was particularly painstaking these could have been supplied cut for the money It wasn’t cheap. But now finished does look great to be fair, you forget the pain 😃

Not a bad looking kit. The pre drilled holes in the collar ties being wrong, would probably throw a avery home owner not used to carpentry out when fitting them. I'd probably prefer to make my own gazebo, but I get why people will buy kits. A great video to show the procedure in fitting a kit like this. We'll done 👌.

Hi bud🖐Fixing it down was not easy😬 We basically used a porcelain drill to go through the tiles, and then plugged and screwed down, through agle brackets, into the cement/concrete bed beneath. If I was doing it again, I would probably go down the resin according route.👍Cheers Del

Nice job del, I’ve shingled a few roof’s when I lived in Canada, I couldn’t see but were they a 3 tab shingle?, and did you cut them down to make your ridge caps . I know in a summer when it gets hot they start melting so you have to be careful walking all over them. How did you fasten them down too ?. Nice job as always 👍👏

Hi Jim🖐Yes, they were 3 tab shingles, and cut them singly for the hips and ridge👊They are nailed half way up and then the covered by the next one up. You are also right about walking on them when it's really hot, as, like you say, they can tear.😬Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎Cheers Del

Looks decent enough but in all honesty I would hope that every panel and hole was spot on, not requiring modification by a carpenter. When I checked the cost, I had to double check that it wasn't made from a Hardwood, but no, its simply pressure treated. I would suspect that at £3700 most carpenters would be happy enough to get this job from start to finish (depending on current timber costs). We ordered a 3 x 2 Cabin made from 2 inch wood with double glazed windows, french doors, insulated pitched roof, bitumen shingles, delivered and installed for less than this though.......

Hi, great video again thanks. I have a similar one to install, I was just wondering if you fixed the posts to the floor in the end, and if so what type of bracket would you recommend please? I think something that is fitted after the install would be good for me due to time constraints, as it's hard to pick up a 150 x 150 post shoe at short notice.

Hi there🖐I actually fixed the side panels down with heavy duty frame type fixings, as they are attached to all but the front middle post, and this one was fixed with the same fixings but through one of the supplied angle brackets👊Cheers Del

Hi Bryan🖐 It's tricky to explain. Plot out your legs on the ground and and work out from the leg position that is at the lowest ground position. Use a long straight edge (straight length of timber) and position it at the next leg position (thus position will be at a higher point than your starting post) and level it back to your starting post position (the lowest part of the ground) and take the measurement from the underside of the levelled straight edge to the ground. This measurement is how much you cut off the post in the 2nd position👍Repeat this for the other posts positions, ideally, working back to the first post position each time. The best way would be to set a datum up with a laser level and just measure down to the ground at each post position and then transfer the marks onto the posts and cut👊Remember to measure twice, cut once🤟Cheers Del

I designed and built a bespoke bar in my garden in 2019 and used 100mm post shoes. Found this video coz am thinking of buying a 3x4 one of these from Dunster house and wanted to know the post size for the shoes, but am confused you didn't use any?

We have one of these arriving at the end of the month (4x3 enclosed on 2 sides and going down on freshly laid patio) - neither of us is DIY minded but finding someone willing to put it up for us has been a nightmare. Still not found anyone - best quote we've had so far is 600 quid from someone on mybuilder and to be honest, I'm not sure I trust them to do it right

I think £600 is very reasonable to fit what you have described, but not if its done poorly. Hi there🖐The gazebo posts had heavy duty angle brackets fixed into them at the bottom, and these were then drilled through into the slabs/base and fixed with sleeve anchors👍If you were doing this in a area susceptible to high winds, then concrete pads need to be put in under the slabs, so longer, resin anchors can be used💪Cheers Del

Great video. I have just purchased this same style gazebo but the smaller version of it (3m x 3m with full height sides. My patio has a gradient of 10mm overall, what would be the best option to get the gazebo level without cutting the pillars? I've looked at some load bearing heavy duty packers, would these be sufficient? Thanks

Good video, thank you. I’m just building one myself. The instructions say to leave a 2mm gap between roof boards, presumably to allow expansion/contraction. They are tongue and groove. Did you have do to that on your build? Cheers.

What size drill bits did you use to pre drill screw and bolt holes ?

Thanks for the video. Can you advise though please? I may buy the 4.0 X 3.0 version, so slightly smaller than this one, and I rate myself as an above average DIYer. With that in mind, do you think that I could build it myself as I have no joiner friends lol.

Hi there🖐 This kit was well labelled and came with comprehensive, easy to follow instructions👊I would say a competent DIYer should be able to put one together. Just get yourself set up right, and take your time👍Cheers Del

@@thetallcarpenter Ok thanks for the answer. Just to be a pain, do you know if the main posts were 120mm? The reason I ask is that I know someone who bought from these guys years ago and they used to supply 150mm I believe! I really want this thing to hold up really well in high winds, but just hoping they are not compromising on weight/quality etc.

Hi Ben🖐I would say you couldn't put this in the ground as the head height would be too low. I suspect the manufacturer would be better placed to advise on this👍Cheers Del

Hi Dell. Great video. I'm thinking of buying one of these but for cost reasons I'm thinking of buying one without any walls, and then adding them later. do you think this would be a problem?

Sorry for another question but it wasn't clear to me in the video whether you have levelled the gazebo but trimming the legs to allow for the patio drop, or you have build the frame square to the patio. I'm thinking of doing the latter for ease as it will barely be noticeable and am worried I'll end up with a miniature frame if I make a mistake :)

@@garethcharles8950 Yes, I did cut the posts to accommodate the out of level slabs, but if yours is not too bad, I don't think it would harm the finished gazebo👍

LOL...you lost the plot at the end, very funny must have been the heat....as you said great little project and the time saving on that is immense and hardly any faffing about..how long would it have taken doing it the old fashion way.

Hi Mitch🖐 We actually fixed the side panels down, which are fixed to all the posts apart from the front centre one, and this one is fixed down using a supplied angle bracket👊Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del

@@christianmoore910 Not all slabbed patios are equal Christian, and fixing these down may be different depending on the surface. Ideally, they should be anchored down through the slabs and the sub base👍
