You guys are doing a great job with the cleanliness, a lot of people don’t realize how small particles tear up big engines
Just a tip: When wanting to apply stickers perfectly straight, I know this seems counter initiative, spray the surface you’re applying to with glass cleaner, put the sticker on and move to desired location, and you can get your sticker perfectly straight when everything dries. The sticker will adhere even harder over time.

This only works with vinyl/stickers that have solvent based adhesives. Most vinyl is but you'll find lots of die-cut laminated stickers never actually dry or 'stick.'
I don't think I've seen Charles ever be as gentle and delicate as he was during this build. That's how you can tell it's worth some money! Great build!

That cylinder head is a multi-process machining part with serious amounts of expensive and valuable engineering. It is no doubt expensive and still it will require sales of many units to pay the engineer what he deserves for his time. A masterpiece worth every penny. I would be careful too!
I like how Isaac is just so proud of you two for building that thing in secret for three months, though the best part is him screwing the crate shut again, somehow I knew he'd do that... :P
Charles is such a great addition to the team, love his humor he puts into things

Love seeing the build. Gotta say though, with the new shop you boys should build an engine run/test stand. Keep up the good work and content.
"We'll build you one" and the smile on Charles' face was awesome!
We used to put the copper head gaskets, from our motocross bikes, on the burners of electric stove tops and let 'em get hot enough to glow. Had to brush 'em off before installing, but it worked great.

If you guys had Johnny Berry work the head and advise on the build there’s no doubt that thing is a beast. !
Haha that cooking scene was absolutely awesome!! 😂
30+ hp on a mini bike is a fire breathing tire shredding white knuckle beast and I want one. I've got a stretched motovox with a predator 224 on it with your common upgrades like governor delete, carb, header pipe, flat top piston, bigger cam, heavier valve springs, billet rod and flywheel but it's not making anywhere close to the power yours is making. I know how my bike feels and it rips but to have 30+ hp has got my gears turning and makes me want to build a new engine. You guys have done a great job on this new build.
Been working with Johnnie Berry for a few years now myself. Let me tell you, there's some magic in that engine. Im sure yall did very well and Happy Birthday to Charles.
I am gonna guess 36lbs single coils. I run them myself, and they are about that stiff. You can definitely have her living the high rpm life for along time.
Charles built a beast.. happy birthday man..
Nice build guys. You know Mark lives like a hour from me. Good dude. And you got that Johnnie farr going. 😉
First and Foremost Happy Birthday to Charles ( Big Three OH!) , Hope that you have a Blast at the event this weekend. Love the channel
Cool build. You guys should take it over to Red Beard's dyno and see what it does. 👌👌
A 260 CC mini bike that is insane. Electric start would be nice but you don't need the extra weight not sure how easy it is to rope start an engine with 13:1 compression
There's easy way to cut a gasket. Hold gasket paper in place, where it will be mounted, and tap all around the outside edge of the thing you're making the gasket for. Tap with a socket extension or small hammer. The sharp edges will cut right through. Do this for the inside cut as well. This is not my idea, it's a pro tip. Try it, you'll like it :)
Heck yeah! Amazing episode. Happy Birthday Charles!
Johnnie Berry/ Laid back racing does awesome work. He did my big valve head on my 236! Also, I get my cut to length 1/4" chromoly pushrods from Childish concepts, good stuff!
To anneal copper, after heating it must be cooled rapidly by placing in water, letting it cool slowly returns it to normal.
@jimmyguy428

I was going to comment the same thing. Copper needs to be quenched immediately after heating to anneal it. Opposite of ferrous metals.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Charles.What a monster .
I spent all last weekend upgrading my Baja Warrior 200. I’m still gonna get destroyed but oh well 😂. I’m so hyped for this weekend! I still have the original Baja engine on the bike but it now has a full stage 1 kit (last time it only had the straight pipe and airbox mod), I put a Tillotson racing cam in there, and finally I put a torque converter on it and had to modify the crankshaft to get it to work. It’s 10x better than what it was and I hope I’m not dead last this time but either way. This weekend is gonna be a blast! Can’t wait to see you guys and the build there!
@kevinsellsit5584

This is good. You will learn a lot more making small changes along the way. Like when you changed the cam, went for a ride and said...holy smoke it hauls ... Cams are awesome! Compression is huge if you can afford the fuel. But you MUST use good fuel. Keep having fun and stay safe.
Annealing is the process of removing any "temper," the piece of metal has, it prevents the gasket from getting softer after the engine heats up. Not annealing will make it soften up while in service, which would make it lose proper head bolt tork. oh yeah, nice vid., again, I really look forward to Wed. vids.
Great video with lots of laughter and HAPPY B-day Charles :) I do like to looks of that Engine, be nice to your new build, lots of slow brake in and dang be carful with that Bad Ass Hi HP Small Block......
Happy birthday Charles. Hope you destroy everyone in the strip with that awesome bike.
Not a bad birthday present, hope it's a good one Charles!
"Billet will get you away from home and fast!!" 😂 Gotta love Charles!
Happy birthday, Charles!!!
Just incase nobody has said it yet be sure and add zddp too your first couple oil changes the great government has taken the majority of zinc out of oil but a engine needs it for wear purposes. Btw next time you rebuild a engine when you think you have the cylinder wall as clean as possible put a little automatic transmission fluid on a clean rag and whipe it again and see what more comes off.. keep up the good content and great builds

i am building a 8HP briggs flathead no cam mods but port and polished and shaved eyebrows shaved head aswell i was wondering what mm mikuni i need for it i was thinking maybe 24 or 26 mm but i am not sure
Wow John, I can't put my finger on what it is, but the upload schedule change has really helped you hit your stride with putting these videos together!
Cool episode. Mini Mayhem is gonna be awsome.
Spent shell casings and roll pins work to cut the small holes in your homemade gaskets.
I always lightly chamfer the parting line on the rod and the bearings. This will prevent scraping material off the back of the bearing and the chamfer on the I.D. of the bearing makes sure the bearing crush will make the parting line a tiny bit further from the crank so it doesn't scrape the oil off.
Looks like it wins on the dragstrip even vertical instead of horizontal😉. Great built.
You need to fab up a build/run stand for an automotive engine stand so you can rotate it while you build it then run it on the stand. I did that for my Z-50 engine.
You guys are giving viewers valuable information on any rebuild. I restore vintage Briggs & Stratton 1hp engines, from the 1940's and the methods you are going over should be applied to every rebuild regardless of the size. Thanks for the correct techniques.
I was at mini mayhem and this bike smoked everything there!

The hoss with the sauce! I knew it was going to crush!
If Shelby ever built a mini-bike it would start like this. Start with a good, solid engine and then add high performance parts. Plus, build it with care to the assure proper clearances and other specs. Cleanliness is next to impossible, but it’s worth trying to achieve. Good job guys!

Different people build different. Like for instance I only use assembly lube on my engines. Isn't wrong to use oil. Just wasn't the way I was taught. Just cool seeing his style that's all.
@WyFoster
Жыл бұрын
No assembly lube should be used for a non pressurized oiling system. As thick assembly lube can clog up oiling channels since the non pressurized flow can't remove it. Top tip for you guys.
@khrisyeet8022
Жыл бұрын
@@WyFoster It's a preference thing. All assembly lube isn't isn't thick. You might be thinking of grease. Otherwise you have no idea what you're talking about and should probably do some research.
@WyFoster

@Khris Yeet I went to college for motorsport engineering. While I was in college I worked as an engine builder professionally. I have built 20+ of these engines, and have run 7s in the 8th mile and set the world record fastest pass for a small block Honda clone. I'm currently a senior manager in a professional racing team. Assembly lube is thick and tacky in comparison to motor oil. It's job is to cling to parts and lubricate them while the oil pump primes. It is then displaced by the pressurized oil from the pump. There is zero reason to use it on a Honda clone/Predator as the oiling system of a splash lubricated engine is immediate. The crankshaft and connecting rod are rotated through the oil in the sump every revolution. This is non pressurized. Meaning any assembly lube on the bearings will not be able to be displaced correctly and can prevent the flow of fresh oil causing premature bearing wear. Same results if used on the wrist pin and valve stems, lifters, cam bearing surface, etc.

@@WyFoster Way to assert your position without being rude about it, great work on the records by the way! Around 7:55 john talks about ring end gaps and says the top ring is less than the second ring... And this was when things changed. I attended a class around 1992 where sealed power/speed pro reps came to my school and introduced a new way of thinking on piston ring tech back then. They found the second ring should be greater than the top ring so as not to stack gasses in between the rings and unload the top ring from it's seat on the piston land. I tried this in my 455 Oldsmobile stuff and it worked like no tomorrow. The ring end gap bigger on the second than the first will mathematically allow blowby to an extent to not unload that top ring seal. The second ring is more of an oil control anyway so it was loaded below the top ring and allowed cylinder wall scraping of oil while also holding compression with a controlled release. Since then I gap my second ring about 2-3 thou more than the top ring and can easily make 620hp/600+ ft/lb stock block Olds 455s that can be driven on the street with zero problems. There is a huge difference between a 500hp n/a combo and a similar but different 600hp/600+ tq engines...as you can imagine. These long intake runner olds engines have all kinda velocity past the plenum into the cylinders and they love huge carbs with big venturis which tend to slow down the mixture just enough to stay atomized and also flow just enough to make up to 650 nearly 700hp. I know chevrolet guys won't be impressed, but all I'm saying is I can do more with 462 ci Olds displacement than stroker small block chev stuff at 434 ci if normally aspirated. People build these 500hp small block chevs for nitrous or even boost and the olds stock block can't survive over 750ish hp for long. I could go on and on with this. Ring seal and type of rings and setup are the key and I love applying this tech to these small single cyl engines. I'm still looking and waiting for a dykes type of top ring for these engines and I'll make more power than another with 20cc more displacement! Just sayin'
Nice build, guys. sounds great. it looks fast.

If this engine holds together after Mini Mayhem, it'd be cool to see an AMR300 supercharger added to it. For what started out life as an industrial engine, that thing would be putting out psychotic amounts of power by then.
