Just purchased my first Tilly hat and i’m thrilled to bits! As somebody who was diagnosed with skin cancer on my head this last summer I’m glad to be now wearing the worlds best hat.

I begged my kids for a Tilley for Father's Day - GOT IT! The new "Wanderer" - I love my new Tilley. I hike quite a bit and thought this would be the perfect hat for me. I printed "Brag Tags" online and tucked them in the pocket along with a $20 bill lol. Thanks for the post!

I've had a TWC5P black plaid Tilley "Outback" hat for close to 10 years. The black has faded quite a bit to more of a gray with some pink/purple sections but it's still structurally sound. It's a waxed cotton and has kept me from being sunburned to keeping my head dry during heaving downpours while playing golf. My dad has been wearing his daily for 25 years and it's still great. I know they have a lifetime warranty if they wear out, but I figure if it lasts me long enough to wear out, Tilley deserves another $90 CAD from me.

I’ve read about them for years. I was on vacation in Florida this summer and saw them in a store window. I went in and it was love at first sight. It’s more than just a hat, it’s the mystique and stories that go with it. Best purchase i have made in years.

Down here in the land of Heat and Humidity commonly called Florida my year round camping and paddling ( outdoor ) hat is a Tilley. Mine is the Air Flow model for the semi ventilated crown and with a solid brim for sun protection. The green underside is nice on the eyes by stopping a lot of the reflective glare from the sun. One feature I really like is the pocket in the crown. It's my emergency bank where I keep a few bucks for incidentals when camping or backpacking. Don't have to dig in a pack for currency , just get it from my hat. In the summer when going for a daily walk and being from Texas. My old standby a Straw Stetson with a 3 inch brim for semi sun protection and lots of ventilation.

Florida gets pretty hot and humid.. Even though we don't get that hot I still have a hemp straw hat for those really hot days we do good and I am going somewhere I want to look a little more dressy. Thanks for commenting

Excellent presentation Mark. I've worn the Tilleys for years, especially on the water. As you said, worth every penny...... As a side note. Expensive? Look at the Stetsons. I have one of those also. A birthday gift to myself for outliving two generations of my family.

I have had the T 3 for about 14 years. Thing has been to Mexico, Chile, Peru, all over the United states. Last year it finally gave out and just started falling apart. Hat has some great memories associated with it. So far I can't bring myself into sending it back. Love that thing!

Right on. I have a Tilley that has done some world travel as well. I think Tilley new people would not want to give up their old hats because of the attachment we have with them. Maybe that is why they don't mind offering the lifetime guarantee. Thanks for commenting

I have worn out 2 tilley hats in 12 years. I swear by them and will never buy another hat. I'm a gardener and wear my hat 5 or 6 days a week in intense sun. I have not been able to get tilley to replace my worn out hats but at less than $20 dollars per year I still recommend them for the great look, comfort and durability.

I live on the stormy coast of Ireland and invested in a Tilly " Paddler " hat. A great hat, but I was skeptical about the claim for it's wind resistance with it's stiff foam core brim and floppy back. - untill I the day I was on the beach in a gale - force storm. I used the wind cord but it was'nt even needed .. the hat just stayed on and it's not even a tight fit ! Amazing hat.

Good review. I’ve had my T3 for about eight years and love it. Still looks very tidy too. Just picked up a wool tech ttw2 in a sale for the cold winter days in the UK. You do get what you pay for with these. Quality products in my experience.

I bought a Tilley a couple of years ago and the functionality is great. I'm not to sure how Mark keeps his brim nice and straight at the front though. My Tilley looks like a Walmart special floppy hat.

I had a brown Tilley hat a number of years ago ...so many years ago that I do not even remember which one it was ...I just remember it was brown with a snap up brim. Anyway, I finally ordered a new Tilley yesterday; the T3 Wanderer, and am looking forward to it arriving.

Mark, great video. I have since I first watched your video years ago purchased 4 Tilley hats. I love them all. They are all I wear. A few people say they are expensive l say it’s about priorities. Some will spend the amount of a Tilley hat on a night out drinking and think nothing of it (I don’t drink). Or a dinner out. I will eat at home a few times and invest in a quality product. Excellent review of the Tilley hat Mark. I own the LTM6 AIRFLO, I've had it for about 12 years (I think, it had brag tags included). It has protected my head from sun and rain on many many rivers in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I wouldn't go kayaking without it. It has held up remarkably well, it still looks newish. I'm going to Myre-Big Island State Park in Southern Minnesota in a couple weeks for a camping long weekend and I wouldn't dream of camping without it. I sure do like your reviews. Lately I go to your reviews first. KUTGW

Tilley hats can really grow on you. I where my in the woods and elsewher until it gets too cold then I switch to a touque (beanie) or my winter Tilley. Gald you are enjoying the videos. Thanks for commenting

That is true ,, l have a Tilley wide brim T3 hat for about 15 years also a Tilley Sommer cap, my first Tilley wide brim hat l brought in Arundel South England 15 years old two years ago l was told by my partner the hat looks very old and shabby so l asked Tilley about a new one they told me to send my old T3 in and they sent me a new one under guarantee, with my old one that l use now in the garden. The best hats in the world!!!

When I bought my first Tilley I had to trust them to get my size correct based on the measurement system they have on their site. It worked out perfect. At first I wasn't sure about the fit as the hat sits a little different on the head but after a short while I got used to it and the hat took the shape of my head. Optionally, you may find a store in your area that sells Tilley hats. Hope this helps. Thanks for commenting

I never notice you sporting a Tilly. My daughters bought me a Tilly upteen years ago. One daughter noticed me wearing it a couple years ago on our annual fishing trip. She said , is that the hat we bought you? I said yup and she beamed with pride on their great choice. I wear it with pride. It developed a tear on the top and another daughter said you can send it back and get a new one. No way I said.

I agree. I also had to replace my first Tilley (one of the first generation)after it started to show signs of degradation due to extended salt water contact. They replaced it no questions asked. Thanks for commenting

These hats have quite the reputation! Never bought the real deal yet. Still rocking a milsurp hat until it dies. Might take awhile. That waxed hat looks like the perfect Nova Scotia hat. Take care!

Hi Mark, I personally owe only one, the Ltm6 airflow. As you say they are not really cheap, but are worth every cent. And if you calculate the time that you can use them, that makes the price easier to swallow.

I have a Jhats. It looks exactly like this. Everything is the same except it doesn’t have a moisture pad in it. It does have the little pocket in the top. It is 8 years old. I wear it on the beach. $20.

Suitable for templated climates but not for desert like very hot regions. Not an option for Arizona or Florida. A pith helmet may be an better option.

I got a Tilley hat ( airflow ) for Father's day . I like it so far , but , it's going to be a fair weather friend . I doubt It'll fare well in foul weather ! It dosent say its made in Canada the fine print on the smallest tag says it's imported ( but from where or to where ) . It dosent have the two holes in it or the snaps . How am I supposed to use the shoe string cord to keep er on My head when the wind blows ?

I have a pair of mil-spec camo boonie hats, one in green tones and another in urban camo gray that I got from my local surplus store

@@MarkYoungBushcraft any recommendations on insect repellent other than deet ? I saw a video a couple weeks ago and deet does bad things to gear materials so I want to find something different. Also deet stinks, if I'm taking pit stick into the woods to avoid smelling myself I sure as hell don't want to smell like deep woods

If you want the white flax one darker, soak it in a strong tea or coffee solution. I did it with my original Tilley and was very satisfied with the darker khaki/dark coyote color. I would still have it, but was stolen after the divorce. Gotta get a new one.

I liked the white originally but find it starting to get dirty looking even after washing. I have been thinking about dying it. I will consider your suggestions. Tilley would likely have given you a deal on replacement based on their hat loss policy. Thank you for commenting.

I agree with your assessment. The khaki/green combo is nice but gets dirty to quickly. I'm buying a LTM4 and I'm going with it in gray

Watch second hand stores and estate sales, I have found about a dozen that way. Plus have one bought from Alex at the 1980 Toronto Boat Show the first year they sold them.

a straw mexican hat (gardeners) has a much larger brim keeps the sun off the head and neck we also in construction cut the brim off the hat and glue them on our hard hats

have you seen the you tube vid "tilley hat self defence" apparently if someone attacks you with big stick all you need is your trusty hat to defend yourself.my tilley is great but i reserve judgment on that use. cheers

That’s the most uninformed comment I have seen. Some people are not capable of understanding. It’s like a tent. Sure. You can get this guy a Walmart tent. I will take a quality mountaineering tent that will not break down and will last forever. LOL

The new ltm6 is imported, :( I think I’ll go with the hemp instead

Sorry to hear they have started with imports. Had hoped they would remain all Canadian made. I am sure you will be happy with the hemp. Love mine. They do fade a fair bit though. Thanks for commenting

I recently purchased my first Tilley hat, and was very disappointed to find it was made in China, rather than Canada :(

@HaldirTheBestElf I have always lived by a mantra, that is pay as much as you can afford then look after it but sometimes income dictates decisions, saying that I paid £3 for a hat and have had it twenty years so???

Have one, 'cause someone give it to me as a gift. It «worth every penny», ah, ! It's to heavy, to hot, but surrelly, in the big city, it's looking coo, adventurer etc, question of branding, that's it. I buy and old boonie hat in army surplus, and it doing the same job for 5 $, not 80$, and i don't give a damn if I loose it. Worth every penny, the boonie hat, surrely, Tilley.... if you want to looking as a «backcountry wildman»in a fancy restaurant in town Tilley is your best choice here in canada

Check the specs . They are not all made in Cannada. Many are CCP made.

I fully agree. I have one Tilley that is 20+ years old and another that is 12 years old. The only sign of "wear" is some fading of the hemp on my TH5 and I think it gives it character

Mine is at least 35 yrs old and yes people said to me how much ? you're an idiot. It's a T3 I think originally light khaki with a green underbrim I died it a dark coffee colour and never looked back. Yes parts of the brim have taken a bit of a set it looks a little crumpled but.....it still works !!!!

I expect my T3 is close to 30 years old as well. I have been thinking about changing it;s colour as well but I spilled wood stain on it so I don't think it will take a dye or coffee stain. Still one of my favs though. Thanks for commenting

I must say, you've piqued my interest. I'm not so follically challenged as you are, but I do have the genetic defect that results in irregular distribution of melanin in the epidermis. This means that some of my freckles get dark and others just look green when they are surrounded by beet red sunburned skin which can happen in about half an hour. I am seriously considering the broad-brimmed LTM. I was surprised to find it is the least pricey model. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I have bookmarked the site.

Yes, I have learned that some of the more popular hats are being made in China but a lot are still made in Canada. The company actually has a list of Made in Canada items. Thanks for commenting

Nice hats but way too expensive. Thats like buying a top of the line Mercedes to buy groceries 1 a week 2 blocks from your house.I'm a frugal person though.... Cheers Mark!

No argument here. I am pretty cheap about my gear as well. All my good stuff came as gifts. My Tilley obsession pre-dates my bushcraft days and most of my Tilley's came as gifts as well...but they are great quality hats..thanks for commenting

I agree. I bought a few Henschel and Outback Trading hats that do just as good a job for 1/3 of the price of a Tilley. Frugality saves me money to buy other gear with.

Yes but it isnt replaced for free if it's damaged like Tilley hats. that tag even says, "put it in your will"

M C they're amazing hats, sorry if I gave the wrong impression but I usually wear a Dollar store ball hat. Buying a Dodge hat is a luxury buy for frugal person ;) I have a few dodge hats too

I feel ya, ive been wearing the same Burley Tobbaco Growers hat for 3 years now hahaha I couldnt afford one of these hats, im just saying that its a one time purchase instead of a every few years kind of purchase.

Just for an update. Tilley hats are horrible now. They are made in China now. bad before I even pulled it out of the plastic bag, I was able to observe a severe defect in construction.

Your video shows lack of protection for nose, lips and face. My Tilley has lost it's shape. Foam distroyed by dryer.

Do not put them in the dryer, just hang to dry. In the hot summer just wear it wet.

$79.00 for a hat? Uh, no. Buy a $15 hat from Walmart and slide a straightened paperclip into the bill seam and spray it with water (shoe) repellent. Same purpose, same results and not supporting price gouging companies.
