Lonnie, you are right. I just went to a funeral service today, and thank God my friend lived long enough to see his children grow. He was a hell of a man. Rip my friend.

When I was young, I thought I would never get married, but I did, when I was 28. Then thought I would never have kids, but I did, when I was 32.. My dad died when I was 17 and for that reason, I would listen to this song and pray I would live to watch my boys grow up. Shortly after that somehow, and I still don't know what happened, it just seemed like I turned around and now I'm 66 years old. I've been retired for a year and my boys grew up wonderful (I knew they would) and now I'm watching my 3 year old granddaughter grow. I guess I made it past "too old to die young," but now I pray my boys can do the same and, I hope can stay a little longer and see what happens. Seems like life before 20 lasts forever, but shortly after, it just fly's by! I don't know where the last 48 years went but, I went fast! I love Moe Bandy and his music, he is such a great storyteller and his lyrics seem to come from real life stories. "Americana", and "Bandy the Rodeo Clown" are also Moe,s songs and have also long been favorites of mine.

I love his songs as well. However, he was not the songwriter it was Kevin Welch. Check out his music, his version in particular, it is all the more touching imo.

My husband's favorite song. He got to see his children grow. He past away in 2013, 8 days before our 50th anniversary.

My daddy loved this song. This was played at his funeral. I love you daddy and I miss you so much.

Think of your dad as one of the stars that shine down upon us, I believe the stars in the night sky, are people in heaven opening their windows to watch over us. That thought alone has helped me through some difficult days since I lost my dad over 30 plus years.

This is without a doubt my favorite Moe Bandy song of all time. It is more than likely the same wish we all possess in your hearts and souls. The more of my friends that leave this world, the more the song hits home, and someday someone, hopefully, will be saying this about me. Rest in Peace to all my dear friends that have preceded me in death. When you stop and think about it. We are all like a candle, and one swift breeze and we are out.

I love the fiddle solo at the end of this song just beautiful sound especially when played outside late at night way up loud down the country just resonates off the hills like the angels are there playing this themselves

The first time i heard this song was july 6th, 2000 at my great grandpas funeral and still to this day it chokes me up everytime i hear it!!

this song is amazing when i first heard it on radio it was my mission to learn to sing.i cant count how many times i sang to my children.

This played at my aunties funeral and her wake. This is one of the songs where I saw her in her coffin😰😩 I miss her dearly.

My Papa loved this song so much. He changed some words of the song to let me watch my GRANDDAUGHTERs grow. I danced with him many times Even surprised him at my wedding and danced with him to this song. Happy Heavenly Birthday Papa hope your dancing with Rhonda. Love you so much miss You everyday. He is one special loving man, I would Love to be beside him singing to old to die young. My brother passed at away at a tender age and he sang this song where ever he went, I would give anything to meet and sing with you.

Hearing this tonight on our local "country classics" show made me a bit sad; it was written by Kevin Welch, the occasion being the birth of his daughter Savannah, who became a founding member of the indie group The Trishas. They happened to be together shopping a farmer's market last month in Texas when she was struck by a car and ended up losing a leg. Wishing all the best for her journey of recovery.

my Dads favorite and I have missed him for 28 years

Waiting for the cold wind to blow for me bout all my dear friends has had the wind blow for them . Want be long it will will 82 in less than 2 months

This is just a great song. It all reminds us how precious are lives really are when we spend time on this Earth. Just how fast it can be snuffed out...just like a candle in the wind. I have lost so many friends at such a young age. Gunshots, auto accidents, suicides, and diseases. Keep your friends and family close always. Blink and they may be gone...remember, they say times goes...no, time stays we go!
