nice video. But always do your market research before you get into catfish farming. i know a lot of farmers who find it hard to sell their catfish. They have to bring in women to smoke them in order to preserve them. But tilapia sells out any day anytime. the women even fight over it. But like he said, catfish are hardy. they can even survive in a bucket of water .

The reason explained here is why the two are the most preferred to farm. Other fishes are going to be harder to maintain and more costly. You could try milkfish if you have access to them. They are actually really good when smoked. Shrimp is also good

Tilapia is tastier than catfish. There's no point of comparison really. Business-wise (profitability) I don't care, but if I have to farm one I will farm tilapia. I am Tanzanian, where we have the biggest tilapia lake (Lake Nyanza), and lots of other lakes and rivers where tilapia and catfish exist.

Catfish are bottom feeders and according to scripture they should not be eaten. I remember as a small boy being exited I caught my first fish, a catfish. But my dad never warmed me about that bone in back of head. In the U.S. we call being stunned by a catfish being horned. I hate catfish since then and when I catch one by accident I am afraid to touch it. Now cleaning a catfish means skinning it. So I do not like catching catfish. Also if they are from muddy water the meat is not good tasting, from clean water it is okay.

  • @fuckingSickOfCreepyG

it's interesting to hear from someone that their tilapia die because of excess heat, rather than cold anyway, if you have decent shading/canvas to cover your tanks/ponds, water is not going to go over 35C even if it's 50C in the sun, those are hot shower temperatures note that tilapia are native to some of the hottest areas in the world, if your water gets that hot that your tilapia are dying you are losing A LOT of water to evaporation, which in many places it would be a significant expense in itself
