My youngest sister was born in 1967 after my mom’s Catholic obstetrician refused to provide the hysterectomy she needed due to fibroid tumors in her uterus. She had three children but he felt she might not be finished with her family. She had a repeated history of domestic violence due to post partum psychosis and with after her third birth had been mentally hospitalized because she feared she would black out and kill her children. Six years later my sister was born tiny and malformed and with a barely controllable seizure disorder. We loved and cared for her at home her entire life. She never could walk, talk, feed herself, toilet herself, put herself to bed, manage her medications, purée her own food so she could swallow it, lift herself in and out of the tub, wash her own hair, turn on the TV, lift her own wheelchair, change her own bed, fix her own snacks or drinks, prepare her own jello water for years after she started to aspirate liquids, to mention just some of the daily tasks associated with complete care of a nonverbal adult with limited ability to move. We would sleep in the hospital with her when she needed overnight care because the staff could not be expected to understand her vocalizations and how to move her so that her constant spasticity didn’t cause her greater pain. She was often so frightened. She needed the comfort and love only family could provide. And we did it. For 56 years. Her care subsumed all our lives. I was 13 when she was born and 69 when she passed. I loved her without reservation. I learned so much from her. And the trauma of her care and her constant, unremitting physical suffering was insurmountable. I love her, and am grateful to have had her in my life. And I despise my mother’s reckless, smug, patriarchal, evil obstetrician, who played God with her and our lives. He should have to suffer what my sister endured for just one day. More than a day’s worth would be morally indefensible. WOMEN HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE THEIR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE.

My child is profoundly disabled, but there were no prenatal tests for his disabilities and it has been the second greatest regret of my life after my awful marriage. Happily divorced from a cheater and abuser, but had to rear my child alone, which was awful. If I could go back in time, I never would have married or ever had a child. Love him more then life itself, but I couldn't cure him and his quality of life and need for 24/7 care is devastating. These protestors and awful right-wingers can go to hade$.

Some parents may choose to continue a pregnancy and give birth to a severely disabled child. That should be their choice. Second, in case you are only pretending to have read the true quote or put it into context, Luther was arguing against women refusing to get married and have children because something bad might happen. He was calling women to be brave and do what must be done for society to survive. It is no different than calling on fearful men to do the dangerous jobs that must be done despite the risk to their health or life. To twist the words of a man who clearly loved and cherished his wife and daughters into a cold blooded indifference is evil. No one. And I mean NO ONE, should ever have to be faced with the awful decision to terminate a pregnancy due to a fetus being severely disabled/incapacitated and unable to lead an unassisted life. That said, the only person who should have the right to dictate not just the life of the woman, but the woman’s family and possible future children. Is THE WOMAN. Period!! Cuz no one wants to have the conversation regarding the long term care cost of raising a severely disabled child. I’m not just talking financially - cuz let’s face it. Republicans do everything in their power to cut or not pas legislation that would provide social safety’s nets for families. Heck, they blocked what ACA could’ve been and turned it into a shame. So said families can’t even get adequate and AFFORDABLE healthcare. But there’s also the fact that parents lose countless work hours just to be able to juggle full time care of that disabled child (cuz can’t afford in home care unless your well off). This in turns ends up being bad overall for the economy. Then there’s the emotional cost, caregivers have higher rates of depression, anxiety and substance use. It can lead to marital strain. The list goes on. But these faux religious Christian right wingers don’t wanna have that real talk. They will NEVER come to the table to get the full story and collab to make healthy solutions

If you had a termination in my Blue state we would have given the choice of an OR termination or a labor delivery and wrapped your daughter so you could hold her and say a formal goodbye and taken pictures even if it were just her face along with a memory box . Now seeing this. Health care should never be decided on whether you live in a blue state or a red state. Health care is just that. Health care. And there ought to be a difference between choosing to terminate a pregnancy because of the health care of the mother and child and termination as a means of contraception. A lot of women who absolutely have to terminate a pregnancy are like this woman. She wanted the child. But from what she said, the child would be severely handicapped if she did live. Does anyone think she made this decision nonchalantly? Seems that the pro life people just don’t give a dam about the quality of life the child will have. One never hears about them banding together to provide facilities to help these children who are born with multiple disabilities. What about that, huh! They’re not pro life. They are just pro birth. It’s infuriating 😡

I'm so sorry for your loss. You are very brave to speak up about your experience, and I truly feel your loss. I had an eptpoic pregnancy about 30 years ago. I struggled with the fact that it was a termination, but the reality of the situation was that I would ticking time bomb, and I could bleed out at any time was terrifying. I'm Australian, so our laws are different. But I have been hanging on every word since Roe v Wade was overturned. I can not express how worried and frightened I feel for the female population of America. Please keep up the good work. The more people especially those with their heads in the sand listen the better it will be. I hope that you all realise that if Trump gets in this is not going to be allowed to happen. There will be medically saving life terminations and a mother and a child who has no chance of survival have endure this inhuman suffering.

I read an article once about a woman who did go to Colorado and pay the $10,000 because she knew her child would die after birth and she didn’t want it to suffer. I remember in the article she put the money on credit cards and borrowed money from family. But she shouldn’t have had to do that. She did it though, so her child wouldn’t be in pain. None of these people actually care about women or children. You can see after the law in Texas that infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate went up, but they don’t care about that. 😡

95.9% =/= 98% but, per usual, you people just make stats up off the top of your head and then run around saying that you can’t use a sample size of 2,000, because you don’t really understand stats to begin with and wouldn’t know what a p-value or R is (very basic stats there, not getting into anything you don’t learn in prob and stats 101) if it hit you in the face.

Having a federal ban and making it retroactive is the only thing thats going to solve this problem. A lot of these advocates would disappear overnight causing less people to feel they have the support needed to go through this successfully.
