14-16 year olds have full control and understanding of what they are doing. These aren't little kids. Absolute zero excuse give them full extent of the law and punishment, show zero mercy just like they showed zero mercy to the person they ran over.

These “kids” deserve to be charged to the full extent of the law. Once they reach 18 and get sent to an adult prison, I can’t wait for their crimes to be found out. A lot of prisoners draw the line at harming an innocent person for the crimes they tolerate, and those that cross that line will find themselves at the mercy of their prison mates.

Grand Theft Auto definitely is a cultural influence here. Just like with the Kia Boyz all just start stealing cars when they watch a Kia Boyz video. Some of them model their behavior after Grand Theft Auto while joyriding in stolen vehicles. This is a perfect example of follow the leader. And Grand Theft Auto set the example for them to follow. Don't underestimate the cultural influence of the elements within our culture that enables this behavior. Not saying these kids wouldn't lash out in other psychopathic ways, after all if they are willing to run over someone in real life for the lulz, they probably would have done other psychopathic stuff if they didn't get the idea from Grand Theft Auto or Kia Boyz or other psychopathic cultural influences. Psychopathy and the cultural influences which enable it definitely are front and center here imo. It's just poverty bro, doesn't cut the mustard with a crime like this.

The problem is the state won't punish teens for the smaller crimes like theft or vandalism and so they think they can get away with anything. What will end up happening is these teens are going to start getting shot while committing these crimes and the state will start prosecuting the teens to protect them from the fed up public.

Honestly, I think that the parents of these teenagers need to suffer some form of consequences. It’s their job to teach their children how to behave properly, but they failed miserably and now someone died because of it. It would be one thing if they were 18, because then they’re grown adults who can theoretically move out and start living on their own if they wanted to, but the fact that they were still minors when they did this makes me really wonder why we shouldn’t punish the parents for their failure.

@aagodzilla Newspapers and books were never blamed for war or destroying society, let alone toys which have existed since humans have. The only way that you're in any way correct is that older people complained that younger generations were addicted to books like how people complain about phone addiction. Social media is not scalable or comparable to anything we've had in the past. It's completely new and the effects it had on people are still being researched and discovered every day. Newspapers and books didn't have algorithms. Stop doing thr good old "nothing new" downplay.

What I'm saying is that these teenagers decided to engage in reckless and harmful behavior, such as using a car to harm people and filming it, and now they are facing the consequences. They're being charged as adults, and if convicted, they could potentially face serious penalties like life imprisonment or even the death penalty (although I'm not sure if Nevada still has the death penalty). They messed up big time, and their lives are now in ruins. If they were seeking attention on social media, they certainly got it, but in all the wrong ways. I've heard rumors that prisoners can't access tablets during free time, although I can't confirm the accuracy of that. What I want to emphasize is that once these teens are incarcerated, they better hope that fellow prisoners don't discover the nature of their crimes, as inmates don't take kindly to such behavior. I hope these teenagers realize the gravity of their actions and understand that their lives have taken a dark turn.

Even as a kid I would often take from role models from various works of fiction. Uncle Ben once said, “with great power comes great responsibility”. As a teen I knew I was old enough to distinguish right from wrong, and that making others suffer was not the Jedi way, even when I endured the blame and punishment of bullies. To see two teenagers like this is straight out of Lord of the Flies. I can hardly comprehend how they can act so mindless and cruel. If makes me wonder what kind of life they chose for themselves, and makes me grateful I grew up without social media.
