Yeah I really care about the one single social media giant that was about to do all the same shit. How about we just go after the actual monopolies restricting free speech in our own companies instead of focusing on the rights of foreign owned ones. And no, a fun social media app for kids is not the place for it. They hate it because they cant control it but it is perfectly geared towards making our kids stupid. Just another race to the bottom. You can fit a book into a youtube video you can't fit a coherent thought into tik tok.

Banning tiktok in new Caledonia just goes to show that the island is being treated like a french colony and not a department like they so want people to think. It's the same french mentality in Tahiti, Guadeloupe, Guyana, martinique.. and in those places the locals are treated like second class citizens

stop talking nonsense, I'm black from Reunion Island which is a French department and there is no racism and I regularly go to mainland France. In fact the French judge you on your salary and not your skin color and it is above all a class contempt that exists in our country but they are much less racist than in the United States... there are a lot of interracial marriages ...in Paris you will see lots of black/white couples and many more than in any American city (I visited New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco). To be accepted by white people, you have to work and not be poor but you must not listen to propaganda, France has never practiced genocides like the English who eliminated indigenous populations to replace them with white people (Canada , Australia, USA etc). The former French colonies have original populations like the Vietnamese in Vietnam, African countries are 99% black, Algerians in Algeria etc. In short, we like to hit on France while the English are the devil for having physically decimated and by ethnic replacement the aborigines and indigenous people. here is the testimony of a black man from a French island lost in the ocean 😉

"Over seas territories" is a new wording for "colony"

Just for context, the Kanaks have been asking France to leave their island for years now. This is not the first riots. At one point they even had some sort of terrorist kanak branch. In their case they are also being occupied against their will. France is more than 15,000 miles from New Caledonia. They've got nothing to do there.

Democracy inherently disenfranchises the minority

As a foreigner living in China and a Douyin (TikTok) user, I've noticed why TikTok is so popular and different from Western social media apps. The algorithm traffic system isn't influenced much by sponsored(capital) content, allowing normal users/creators to receive "equal" traffic compared to sponsored/paid traffic. I suppose it has something to do with the socialism/communism governance system.

Putin and Ji Jiping set out an 8,000 word document on their basic principles and agenda. Which about 7999 words more than our western governments take the time to give us. And I have to say if the purpose of that 8000 word draft was to radicalise well all I can say is they have my attention, im all ears at this point. Because call me old fashion but I like the idea of no monopoly's and fair treatment? but then again what do I know im just radical for listening to all sides.

I think if someone stays on the island for 10 years they deserve to be able to vote... it is a French island, also, that gets 'French' support. It's not like people can 'immediately' just start voting so I think that's actually pretty 'reasonable.' but I feel you are right about Tik Tok.

Have you ever had to deal with french? They're arrogant and full of themselves.. unfortunately I have french relatives and I studied in france.. They're the know it all of Europe.. always willing to put you down to exert their superiority

French no matter what they live are knows to regroup around common particular interests and issues using economics or political right advantage etc, that made the local ends up to live like second class citizens

French here and just to be fair, we don't just oppress the colonies, we also oppress those who live in Metropolitan France. We put people in jail for tweeting their support to Palestine, even a famous soccer player couldn't escape it. We also have laws that forbid Muslim women from wearing their hijabs in public places or ban Palestinian flags (or Algerian) in some cities (Nice for example).. Anyway.. there's too much to say for a comment. Truth is France has never been a democracy and pretty much every Western country is opening its eyes to the same sad reality.
