TIHK PicoPick Lock Pick Set

TIHK, makers of the Tiny Inconspicuous Handcuff Key, have come out with the PicoPick which they are billing as the smallest lock pick set on the market. This was a pre-order item for several months and has now shipped.
I've had my Pico Pick for several days now and I'm ready to share my thought on this lock pick set. Also, I compare it to another small lock pick kit that fits in the pocket easily.
My favorite book on lockpicking no matter if you're absolutely new to the hobby or if you're a 30 year locksmith professional is this book "Visual Guide To Lock Picking" amzn.to/2LFwSgu
This is also an excellent book regarding bypassing locks, security systems, etc and is written by a fellow famous for thinking a bit outside the box. amzn.to/2l7KPcH
A lot of people recommend this lock pick set for beginners, but I'll caution that they're thick, so if you're picking European locks, they might not be appropriate. But for most pin/tumbler locks you'll find in the USA, they'll do. amzn.to/2mGF32l
I made a mistake in the video when I called the set I was thinking of "Wiz Wazzles". The pick set that was on my mind are "RaiMundo". So, if you decide to search for the smallest set of lock picks available, search for "RaiMundo Lock Picks".

This is freakin' adorable. The smallest folding set of picks I own were kinda made/modified myself. I took one of those cheapo James Bond credit card pick sets, sanded & polished them up for better function, punched a hole in the end of each of the handles and attached them all together with a small nut & bolt. Any picks currently not in use act as a handle for better purchase. I added about an inch of rubber tubing from a resistance band which acts as extra grip while picking as well as keeping the picks together whilst in your pocket. I threw away the crappy tension wrench that came with the kit, took a small Z bar and chopped the thinner end down to 3mm long, so it can be used for both top & bottom of keyway tension. The tension wrench also fits into the rubber tubing when not in use, to keep everything together neatly. I hope can still find one of these picopicks though, I love quirky gadgets

Thanks for reviewing this. I don't know about their handcuff keys, but it's clear they don't know what they're doing when it comes to lockpicks. Saved me from making a foolish purchase, though I was a bit suspicious already just from the overblown ad copy on their site.

Wow, wonder which high speed low drag tactical wizard they had developing this! The moment you popped the tensioner out, my thought was what is that going to fit in!

Exactly. And then to discover that's not the biggest problem with this thing.. It's so bad I didn't even bother talking about the materials it's made out of or the limitations of their pick choices.

Looks like it might be the first pick set in history to fail on acrylic locks.

Great video! Do you have a recommendation for a tutorial, or course on how to learn to pick locks, and of course a recommendation for the best lock picks to purchase?

KZread is the best place to learn about locks and there are a couple of excellent books as well. Check out the channels locknoob and Bosnianbill. I'll add a link to a book to the video description when I get to a computer later today. As to picks, best is subjective. I like sparrows products partly due to the price but Peterson is probably the "best" according to many. I don't think any one company makes every tool you may ever need though.

Definitely check out Bosnian Bill's Locklab, he has a free online course. Sparrows, Southord, Lockpickshop, and Lockpickworld are good places to start looking for picks. I personally prefer Sparrows, they have a lot of unique things that you can't get anywhere else.

I predict that the makers of the PicoPick will contact you explaining that there were a small number of defective picks that "got out". Then they will send you a new one with the request for you to do a new video. Or not. Time will tell.

I'm not sure if the final version is supposed to be this way or not. The animated gif I put in the video indicates not. But, I got an email from them with an update as to progress getting the product finalized that had some detailed photos back in July. That one is set up like the one they shipped me. All I'm really sure of is that I hope they didn't invest too much money in this product.

Anyone at risk of kidnapping or home invasion. Anyone traveling in countries where law enforcement isn't entirely in control. Anyone at risk of being detained by bad actors anywhere on earth. Intelligence personnel, State Dept folks, and soldiers with special duties often carry a handcuff key and/or a handcuff shim... A whole bunch of US left wingers have been claiming they've been illegally detained during "protests". If they truly were illegally detained, there's an argument to be made for being able to release oneself rather than hoping the system works properly... Soon, a whole bunch of US right wing folks will be protesting and probably getting illegally detained... Innocent bystanders and press members occasionally get illegally detained when any civil unrest occurs. It's way easier to get out of cuffs with a key or a shim than without one.
