Tightening the Bolts on a Boiler Door - Boiler Room Tip

As a boiler heats up then cools off this causes many of the metal components to expand and contract. Much like any other bolts on a similar system, it's good practice to check the bolts on the refractory-filled doors of a firetube boiler. These loose bolts can cause the gasket to not retain a good seal and ultimately lead to refractory damage or hotspots. Check these periodically and every time the boiler has been started and stopped for any prolonged periods. Find out more at www.powermechanical.com/conta...

Refer to them as LUG NUTS (like a wheel -- drive it then retighten)

Hello, How would you recommend tightening the nuts on the flange of a valve on a steam system operating at 150psi - if you were restricted (due to space) and could only use manual tools? The valve is isolated and not under pressure. Cheers!

Based on the limited info of what's mentioned I would say all you could do was put the wrenches on it. Use the appropriate wrenches with bars etc. and torque it down, once heat/steam hits it, it's very likely to need to be retorqued.
