Tight turns when driving - how not to hit the curb and obstructions on tight corners.
In this video I explain how to make a tight turn without hitting the curb, wall or any other obstruction. This video is useful if you need to drive in very narrow streets with tight corners that have no view or turns where you have to reverse.

This guy single-handedly saving people headache. Everything he's ever said, I've used it. And I literally learned by myself (despite being enrolled in a driving school; they taught me nothing).

All they want is money tbh! , i am learning with husband atm but this bean helps so much more! Literally everything we need to know ! Infact an online instructor! And his videos are not ridiculously long either! He gets on with the job and gets it done instead of wasting time and making learningboring like the rest of the channels

I don't live in the UK, but I'm watching these videos to learn the basics. I couldn't agree more. My instructor only told me to check mirrors, he didn't tell me HOW to check mirrors. Saw a video on this channel, now I have a good idea of how to use mirrors.

Funny how every instructor fails to teach students anything and you find a random guy on KZread that makes it seem a piece of cake. Very good advices, I'm also struggling a bit around sharp corners, my instructor couldn't explain when is the best time to fully commit to the turn, can't wait to test this on the road :)

You will find 95% of instructors are only interested in their pockets and pass rate. They are only taught how to make you pass a test, not in how to drive. In rare exceptions like here you get someone that cares that little bit more, and makes this fine are a little bit more enjoyable. Now if we can get everyone to drive in a little less hurry the roads would improve 10 fold

It's important for learners to understand that when needed (and when safe) it's totally fine to use all of the available road space.

It means that at 11:30 we can do that in one attempt by using available space on the right side before turning at that corner. That is what I do in roads at residence area.

But just make sure to check that there aren't people coming on your right and also how to turn left when there are cars on your right.

You are putting so much effort in every single video you upload to make us understand everything you explain!
So it's all about making space before turning into it. Thx for the good tips
My confidence was absolutely shattered after my second driving lesson last week. I couldn't figure out my judgement for left turns! I found your channel, watched some videos and today's lesson went so much better. Thank you for everything Richard, your videos are absolutely amazing and I love your teaching style. Your students are really lucky to have you ❤️

Best channel for beginner drivers. No doubt about it.
God bless you. You have no idea how much you've helped me learn. I live in Pakistan, about 5200 miles from where you are. I've struggled to learn how to drive smoothly for weeks and your videos have helped me drive a million times better in two days. No instructor where I live and no one even on KZread, delves into all the nuances that annoy a learner or scare them or make them panic quite like you do. I now have a solution for almost every problem I've encountered during my learning period. I would like to make a request, if I may. I've seen your videos on reverse parking, but I wanna ask you to make a video or a series on reverse driving. Reverse driving still intimidates me. I find it hard staying in the middle of the lane while reversing and not hitting the sidewalk when going or turning backwards. In this video you've explained how to turn around a tight corner when driving forwards splendidly (i.e. make sure you can see a considerable amount of empty space through your side window before turning), but how can one judge trying to REVERSE around such a tight corner so as not to hit the corner or the bend? Again, thanks from the other side of the world. You're a gem. Keep it up.

Your video is the best because you use a camera on your head that gives real video of how it feels from that seat. I saw hundreds of videos before I got my license in the UAE but your videos are most detailed and gives real driver view. I am constantly learning new things and tips from you. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and effort for us❤
His "put your knee in the middle of your lane" tip is actually game changing. I was hesitating to try at first because i think "what about my car?!" But damn, when you do try it feels natural and the car is very predictable for some reason.
1 month at the driving school only to learn how to properly steer the car within 15 mins with the help of this brilliant guy. Saved me alot of stress. Thank you and keep going!
Even though I'm a 10 yo exp pretty confident manual driver. I still watch the guy's videos because he almost gives a 1 shot formula for every tricky situation. Knowledge is wisdom.
Absolutely the best at explaining, and I've been driving for 60-years.
I got my driving licence 3 months ago and I needed this video. Thank you.
You explain things in a way that’s easy to understand and remember!, I’m going to be learning to drive as soon as the government says it’s safe to do so! I’ve just ordered my first car on motability so I’m trying to prepare myself as much as I can before getting on the road, your videos have been really helpful!

Thanks, after my Dad yelling “keep in” every time I take a sharp bend (with no oncoming traffic) and me then curbing the back wheel multiple times for him to just say “everyone does that” and acting like that is how tight corners are meant to be taken, I now finally understand how to drive tight corners in the way that makes sense and avoids car damage/potential test fail 😁.

Certain people is trying to tell me that I can't watch your channel and others like you to learn how to drive but I know that is not true. You and other professional teachers are very good at what y'all do and y'all teaches logical and practical driving lessons. I think some people are just trying to deride or mock my effort to learn driving skills on this channel as well as many other channels just like yours. 😎💯💪🏿👍🏿 Keep doing what you're doing on this great channel.
face these problems often as a new driver so i know this is going to be a good one 👍

This is just great! All the videos I have watched of you/this channel are made with so much info and patience. Hats off to you man. If only my driving instructor was this cool.
Your videos are really teaching me a lot of driving techniques as a new driver.
You are truly an amazing teacher! Love all your videos! I need to retake my driver's license road test, only because I am in another country from my birth country :) Thank you for the opportunity to learn once again, and I am over 50, so it is tough learning all over again :D
You always give confidence through natural scenarios, not any shortcuts. Hope I can improve my driving in Ireland.
I haven't been up to date with your videos, now i can binge watch during my time off. Wooo!
i've passed my driving test 6 years ago and still occasionally watch one of his videos and find something useful
Thank you Richard, on my last lesson, all the mistakes that the instructor was telling me I was imagining is your calming, nonjudging voice and in this way I've manage to stay calm and to accept the criticism and to see the mistakes. Thank.you again you are amazing.

Great video. I am looking for good instructional vids for my two eldest grandchildren who are both learning to drive. Yours are excellent. What did make me chuckle were the number of small walls which had been hit numerous times. @1.37 just under the nearside wing mirror; @5.59 to the right of the offside wing mirror. I passed my test in 1967 and I still like to pick up tips. Never too late to learn!👍
Wow, what an awesome driving instructor you are!
No other video is more detailed, so well explained and so delightfully practical! Great stuff to help yourself quickly!
You are great at these lessons 👏🏾... And your neighborhood is amazing🙌

thanks. you're a life saver mate. i scratched my car like 3 times in tight places. now i know how
I was expecting that he’d say check the back of your car while turning over the walls. This is a great video for the beginners though. Please make a video on judging the length of the car. The pillars made a lot of sense 😇
This is a very important lesson I see many people just know nothing about, you need to be careful of others in this kind of situation and remember bigger vehicles will be in situations like this on normal roads, it really shows how important observations are and not just observing yourself but observe what everyone else needs/is doing.
as always, excellent advices and useful tips. Thanks for all your hard work.
Had a hard time doing left turns. Thanks for giving me visual guidance
Glad I found this video, I just did a very challenging mock test route that was 90% roads like this 😮 it took a lot out of me, I feel exhausted now 😂
Funny how I’ve been a professional chauffeur by trade for years, casually raced cars with my friends in recreation. and I realised despite my long driving experience, there’s still much to be learned. Must admit I still kinda struggle with turning correctly to this day as I just normally played things by ear since the day I learned driving and still somehow luckily manage to get away with it. Hehe. Your instruction has now helped me gain added knowledge on how to really do things the correct way. Thank you for sharing and adding to my driving skills! 👍
this is a very good video.. applicable in lots of countries and places with narrow streets.. sometimes the lanes can be narrow that you can't take out car in one go. In that case, what I do sometimes is go wide as you have suggested and try to aim short of opposite corner across where you risk B pillar. Then turn wheel back in opposite direction, come back a bit and then forward again and it goes through.
I feel better after watching this. I realise that the tight turns I've caught myself on made the ‘tight’ turns in this vid look huge!
Excellent ,clear, helpful advice. Thank you.
I'm still learning drive, thank u so much for your greatly video's it's helped me a lots
Wow ... Very practical way to teach driving... This video is useful, not only for England but for all those countries left-hand drive countries.... any Tight turns , 90degree parking and parallel parking are examples of good driving... I drive a manual sedan ... I know the pain... 🤣
A big Thank you 👏👏👏Your videos helped me with a lot of situations I'm not comfortable like projecting how wide the road is And when to start turning
May God bless you brother, you are a true legend and we all learn alot from you ❤️🙏🏾
Watching this after failing my test this morning because I hit the kerb multiple times on left turns (one of which was a serious). Worse part was I never normally do that and the road was wide but I was scared I'd go wide. Really helpful watch!
