Tiger Woods' Chip on 16 | Iconic Masters Moments
Спорт
It is one of the most memorable shots in Masters history, as Tiger Woods makes a near impossible shot on Hole No. 16 on his way to the 2005 Masters Green Jacket. #theMasters
---
Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.

@@trimmoos - Just because it is played at 1080P does not mean it is HD (it's upscaled, shallow color, and low bitrate). I was there! Right next to the big pine tree. What a moment I’ll never forget.
Far and away the best individual TV highlight of anything that has ever happened in golf ever. The talk of how hard it is, the full extension camera zoom, the crowd freaking out both when the ball doesn’t fall in and then when it does. “Oh my goodness - oh wow!” You throw the Nike logo on that and it’s an an award winning Nike ad, or reshoot it and it’s the key scene from a movie. Just perfect.

“In your life, have you seen anything like that!” Vern Lundquist
Just listen to the gallery after he hit the chip. Respectable silence that builds to some cheering and eventually a roar when it drops. THIS is why The Masters is so special. It is pure. It is honest. It is the way golf was always meant to be. It is the complete opposite of Phoenix and their drunk frat boy tournament. Please never change, Augusta National.

This was my first Masters watching in HD. I know now this doesn't seems like a big deal, but back then it was incredible. This was such a huge turn of events in the entire tournament.

Me too. First his ability to shut out all those people watching him. Second, the way he sees the shot, looking at where it will break, how much speed it needs. And lastly, the physical execution of the shot and the ball hanging on the lip, toying with us, then dropping in. The drama of the whole thing is better than any movie ever made. Tiger man, Tiger.
I think this still may be my favorite golf shot of all time

Love the commentary before he takes it, just explaining how difficult it is and giving him no hope of getting it close 😂
I could watch that ball drop in that hole every day for the rest of my life and it would never get old.
So incredible to do that under pressure!
The most iconic shot and call in golf history. Tiger and Verne caught lightning in a bottle for this moment in time. I can watch this until the end of my life.
Greatest moment in pro golf history. It has everything. Such an unbelievable shot.
No matter what, Tiger gave us that moment. Simply amazing.

Tiger made golf electrifying and accessible. I don't care how many majors he wins or doesn't win. He gives 10 tons back to children in the sport and always has. Plus the iconic indelible memories. The GOAT.
Greatest golf putt and Nike Advertisement ever!!!
The great Verne Lundquist retires today after a storied 40 year career and this is my favourite call of his. Came here to say thanks for this iconic call on an iconic shot 19 years ago.

Yes, the shot is one of the most iconic and amazing shots of all time. But man, looking at the crowd. Seeing all the high fives amongst the people there…….a special moment indeed. A reminder of how this game can bring so many together and create unforgettable memories. Beautiful!
Such a perfect moment. You couldn't script it better.

I watched this live and jumped in the air as that ball fell in. If there is ever going to be a more perfect golf shot in the future… I wanna see it because this had it all. Masters 2024 starts in a couple hours can’t wait!
Still remember watching this live and still get chills from it!
Brilliant, I remember watching it on TV when I was a kid. It used to be free to watch.
Dude jump started golf, absolute sports legend! That shot alone, defines his legacy!! Love it, makes me want to go play 18 now
Can you just imagine being in that crowd, electric!!
If that doesn't give you chilly bumps. One of the best shots ever, & just that Tiger Roar unreal.
I saw this as a kid & talked to my Dad about it recently. Haven't seen something as cool since
What an Iconic moment Never gets old too see This is why I started watching golf ❤ ...
Big Cat in his prime was AMAZING! One of the greatest short games ever!
I’m starting to feel old. This was back in 2005, next year will be 20 years since it happened. I still remember watching this as a kid!
Greatest moment in the history of sports
The spectators/patrons at the Masters are just the best, nothing like the roar of a crowd down the fairways from the guy they're showing on the tv let us knew someone did something special somewhere and we'll see it very soon
*NEVER. GETS. OLD*
Considering it was a playoff and given the second cut directly behind the ball, this is probably the greatest shot in golf history. I remember seeing it live.
My dad and I saw this live on TV. He kept saying “It’s gonna fall short, it’s gonna fall short…” and then when it dropped in we were both so excited? And he told me right then and there that it would be replayed for a long time on all of those “best sports plays of all time” compilations
Nike’s greatest ad
Watched it live on TV from Ireland. Will never forget
Still gives me goosebumps!
One of the most iconic shots in golf ever! ⛳️👍
For anyone who hasn’t played on some of these championship courses the cameras do them no justice. The gradients of the hills and the all the twists and turns are crazy in person.
This may be one of the most overlooked best sports commentary moments of all time.
I heard Vern Lundquist describe all the different decisions on camera work that went into the coverage of that shot. The result was the greatest video of the greatest shot ever!!
Incredible. I remember watching that.
At the time, Nike couldn't have asked for a better commercial than this. The ball almost stopping, and that Nike swoosh just rolling by the camera.
That is the greatest shot in Tiger's career. He has other great shots before but this one tops all. Great camera work too!
Greatest shot of all time.
Special mention to the camera man, great shot too ! And a great call by Verne Lundquist !
I remember watching this live. I don’t even watch golf. I just wandered in while my dad was watching it.
One of the greatest sports moments ever. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Probably the single best golf shot of all time. He had to make this shot but there's no way, right? Then the chip as you watch it skid on the green and slow down to the perfect position before the roll downhill to the hole and then...there's no way that will go in...wait, will it!? Then stopping just short of the hole with the brief disappointment that it was SO CLOSE... followed by the dramatic pause as it finally dropped in...There's NO WAY that just happened! Everything came together to make for the most "edge of your seat" golf shot that I've ever seen. Watching this again and again never gets tiring
Lot of fans will say this is Tiger’s best shot or the 2001 shot at TPC Sawgrass, but Tiger still cites the 2 iron from the bunker at Hazeltine in 2002 as his best ever. 😂

I remember watching that shot from Hazeltine live. It was a long iron from a fairway bunker, over a tree. I remember thinking at the time that it was one of the greatest shots I've ever seen and it still is today.
Probably the best golf shot I've ever seen.
I am very curious if there was someway to calculate how much money Nike has made from this shot. Could possibly be some of the best marketing any sport company has ever had. The Nike logo slowly moving was so iconic 🔥
The worst high five and the best golf shot at the same time😂
This chip shot was like Larry Mize at Augusta. The chips you are just happy to get up and down yet the impossible happens and it goes in. Creating highlight reels for ages.
I loved watching golf back then...
Best shot I've ever seen!
When the ball drops and the camera shakes, whoever was shooting couldn’t even handle it. That’s how big this one is.
My first time really watching this shot . Not much a golf fan but Tiger is the 🐐. Man that was amazing.
As the definition of a Tiger fan, I still feel bad for Chris. I mean he almost chipped in on 18. He could have won, just wasn’t fortunate enough as Tiger. What a classic Tiger moment for that to hang on the edge and go in!
So thankful to have lived and watched every single Tiger tournament since he’s been a pro. Got to see him live win the PGA in 99, at the Ryder Cup, and another PGA. Just an all time memory this was like so many others. This may be the greatest call of Vernes career. Enjoy retirement Verne.
This is why I love sports... Simply Magic
Man, did that ball have a flair for the dramatic, lol! "Just gonna sit here on the lip for a second, just to raise the tension a touch..."
I remember yelling "GETTTT INNNNN" when it was resting on the lip. Right at the exact moment of my last N it fell. You're welcome Tiger.
