TIG Welding Stainless Steel | Root & Hot Pass!

Ғылым және технология

Tig Welding Stainless steel procedure on open root pipe welding. TIG welding on stainless is known for its precision which is why it’s the go-to process for projects that demand clean, controlled welds, especially on less-forgiving materials like stainless steel alloys.
Stainless steel continues to grow in popularity because it’s a strong material that is resistant to many types of liquid, gaseous, and chemical corrosion. Stainless is an expensive metal - three to five times more costly than mild steel.

    Great channel, good real life welding 👍 top skills. I would like to be able to try a root pass width 3.2mm wire. We don’t get 3.2mm GTAW here, do you think it helps for the bottom 6 o’clock portion of the root for better penetration?

    Hey bud thanks for your comment. Not really, it all depends, from what you most comfortable with and the most important thing is “Gap” . I wasn’t involved in preping or tacking this joint, I prefer using 3/32 wire for the root pass. You just have to dial in and find good inclination for your filler wire.

    Watching your videos has really opened my eyes I've always lowered my juice for the bottom part on positional butt welds, I've always been told up to now if your juice is to high on the bottom you will get undercut/ concavity if am doing a 3"stainless butt in 5g am on 80 from the bottom up past the sides then 90-100 for the top half, main reason for this tho 9 times out of 10 with stainless your gap tends to close in

    I have found the same thing as you about welding 6oclock to the top for stainless to start with. from time to time I have to start at the bottom but in those rare situations I put quite a few holes in the tape at 12oclock and the purge tube at the bottom. i never thought about using the metallic duct tape for the purge. they just handed me painters tape and said go. either way it's going to stick to the back of my glove and roll up as I weld.

    Thanks for your comment, I was using aluminum tape, I find it better than painters tape as doesn’t leave much glue on the pipe when got hot , but as you said, either way it will stick to the gloves at some point 👍

  • @X3MTIG

    @X3MTIG

    Жыл бұрын

    Hey Nathaniel, thanks for your question. Structural welding in all positions is base line for switching out to pipe stick welding. Once you get really good at structural welding, shouldn’t be any problem to apply your skills to pipe. Overhead and vertical is where you need to focus more on controlling your puddle, that is most tricky part for pipe in 6G. TIG is little bit different story as it’s less beginners friendly, but if you willing to learn it will take some time, and the best way to learn is to start in 6G rite away. More you burn more you’ll learn 💪

    Hey bud, only advice I can give you is to be patient, and wait for your opportunity, but also be ready for it. Keep applying for jobs you would like to do, and once you get opportunity, you have to prove yourself, so they’ll remember your name. It takes years to build your reputation, and name, once you reach that point, your phone will be ringing daily with job offers. But remember; you have to be top, or close to the top 🔝.

    Nice welding but I think you need to invest in a better purge set up you see that theres coking in the weld from lack of purge gas in alot of industries that won't be exceptable I'm guessing your doing sanitary pipe ?
