TIG Foot Pedals Everlast Vs SSC Comparison

In this video I walk through some issues I had with my Everlast foot pedal. Then I do a basic comparison with the SSC pedal. Hope this helps anyone looking to upgrade their pedal or trouble shoot the Everlast pedal.
This video is NOT a promotion. I purchased all products with my own money. Everlast, SSC and Arc Zone were not made aware of this video or comparison.

Welding foot pedal controls get kicked around on the concrete and usually do need occasional replacement. Foot pedals live a hard life. Lincoln uses SSC pedals for their machines.

I'm in no way an expert on TIG machines and their pedals, but generally the resistive value of a potentiometer is almost never critical. Halving the value would double the current flowing through it, but I doubt they are feeding straight up rectified mains to the pedal so the heat power dissipated by the potentiometer will still be a fraction of a Watt.

Has your 200DX held up? Have you welded aluminum with it?

Some welders make weld to big to high, what different torch heads a parts stuff are needed to keep welds more shallow and beautiful.????

That's all about heat. Too cold and it sits on the top, too hot and it sinks in more. Aim for just right. But if in doubt especially on thin materials like a bike frame a bit too cold is better than a bit too hot so you don't burn away edges or make holes. If the bead ends up a little too high you can go over it again with the torch using pulse (or just pulsing the pedal) to just sink it in a little more.

A foot pedal for amp control can make things easier but a controlled weld is possible with linear amp control. It all really comes down to the user. Some bad setting can make things hard, but again - its up to the user to make good welds. For heads and parts - it all depends on what you're welding. Look up recommended parts for the type and thickness of metal you're welding. good luck.

I assume it also resolved the problem with having to power cycle the welder? What was causing that?

Yes, turns out power cycling didn't do anything. It was the act of pressing the pedal that "wakes" up the potentiometer on the old pedal.

Everlast doesn't have that same pedal and hasn't since about 2016.
