I’m an archaeologist and every single one of my friends/colleagues not only hate Sapiens, but are genuinely disturbed that such a misapplication of the archaeological and historical record could be such a global success. My paleoanthropology friend literally hurled the book across the room during the first couple chapters 😂. It’s used as an example of how our research can be appropriated for ethnogenesis. The narrative is insanely biased, and completely misrepresents decades of research 😅 but I get why people would read it and think it was decent.

I read Uprooted last year and I was VERY pleasantly surprised by it, I mean I personally wouldn’t call it a five star read because it can be clumsy at times, the romance is kinda predictable (of COURSE she falls for the Dragon…) and the second half becoming intense high fantasy was kinda out of pocket, but that being said, I loved that book ! It’s a 4 stars from me, and I’m really quite picky, so I think you should try reading it again. You actually were the one who convinced me to pick it up despite the mixed reviews lol

The shadow and bone thing is funny because I gave 5 starts to the first two and 2 stars to the third… I hated the ending!

Great list! There are definitely some I will have to add to my TBR! How do you record your books and ratings? Do you just use a spreadsheet or something like goodreads or storygraph?

That comfort/long term framed my future reading: Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. Old irish fairy lore/twist on fairytales. Multiple books in the series that goes on to the next generations of kids. Absolutely adore the series

29:38 I read The Hunger Games for a book report in middle school where we were allowed to pick our own books and I LOVED IT. Happily waited for Catching Fire and Mocking Jay. Still love that series so much ❤

I loved this concept and this video - it makes me wish i had kept records of how I rated books when I read them. I can think of a few i definitely would have rated 5 stars when I read them - The Wheel of Time as a whole goes in "still obsessed", while the Belgariad goes in "I didn't know better". A Storm of Swords is a 6/5.

you just made me bump up the yellow wallpaper on my TBR. I also loved Folk of Air and am so glad I read it as a fully fledged adult because YES. YOU SAID IT PERFECTLY. ALSO WE CAN FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO ZUKO'S MOM???? (Runs off to buy the graphic novel.) Also I love reading other people's five stars esp when they're based on vibes because I LOVE when that happens. I read Sapiens a couple years ago and I gave it five stars. As for the book that got me into high fantasy - I had the luck of reading both Mists of Avalon and Lord of the Rings. So the bar was super high after that lol.

My favorite comfort series is literally a middle grade series called The Sisters Grimm and I've reread it at least three times. I've actually read a lot of books on your list!

Your way of talking and even your voice reminds me of Ashley (Bestdressed) a youtuber who's not active since 3 years but honestly she was my comfort one and now you are ❤

I love Vicious and would highly recommend for anyone interested! I adore the characters and the plot. I see how you would struggle to reread this book if you still know what happens tho.

My formative book was Eragon- reading it back as an adult there are a lot of issues, but I love it dearly! I started it in 3rd grade and it was the first book series I ever read alongside my mom. Still the reason I always go back to high fantasy!
