I notice Sam DOESN’T mention that folktale about a carp turning into a dragon is why Magikarp evolves into Gyarados, the absolute FIEND

Glad to watch this, Sam has so much knowledge and you can tell he watches all kinds of wrestling.

The way Sam gushed about how fantastic Pentagon is, THAT’s what the magic of a Luchador is supposed to capture. The fact that someone in out current generation has a face and a character that can do that for so many people I think it’s something we can’t take for granted. Penta really is something else.

Face paint tier list? Ultimate Warrior, Sting, Darby, Road Warriors, Doink, Jeff Hardy, Painmaker Jericho, Kris Statlander, Abadon...

Talking of Kane masks, I think I'm the only person who liked the black mask he wore over his ring mask when he returned at the end of 2011.

I thought both the mask over and under it was good! He should have kept the top layer for the entrance. It would have been more special!

Would love to see a part two that included Great Muta, Fenix, Matanza, Drago, El Generico, Sexy Star, Killshot, Psycho Clown, Andrade’s La Sombra mask, Dr. Wagner Jr., Juventud Guerra, and Luchasauras. Just to name a few more.

Dude, talking about Octagon took me back. As a kid it was him and El Hijo del Santo that seemed to rule lucha libre wherever I got to watch it. That and the midgets taking on the heel American team, that was fun times too.

It's a crime Bushi isn't even on this list!

Pentagon Jr. has the coolest mask whether black-and-white or cool designs with warrior theme from mask to body gear.

I knew Sam was great, but I didn't know just how great he was until I watched this video. I could take or leave these tier list videos, but Sam's description of the masks made this video worth watching for me. His passion is infectious.

I always liked Blitzkrieg's mask.

You included Randy's bland mask he didn't wrestle a single match in but missed so many unique designs: The Hurricane? Abyss? Luchasaurus? Great Muta? Rey Fenix? Bandido? El Desperado? Shark Boy? Curry Man? Bushi? WIllow? Delirious? Psycho Clown? Psicosis? Juventud Guerrera? El Samurai? Great Sasuke? T-Bar? Slapjack? Mace? Kalisto? Sin Cara? Repo Man? And no females - Sexy Star? Zeuxis? Raisha Saeed?

We need a part 2 for this, so many missed masked wrestlers here.

Similar to Liger and Dragon.

I believe it was Sting that mentioned that there was a wooden plank that lined the wall to help support it that Shock Master didn't know about, thus tripping over it as he busted through.

The absolute first wrestling moment I had was Vader around 1996/7. What a shock it was to a 8y old, so he did an amazing job as a wrestler 🙂 rip

I think Batman is the first wrestler from an outside source, not tiger mask. Back in the early years of regional territorial wrestling there was literally a successful wrestler called Batman who dressed up in the gear and everything. He had the Batman backstory and the basic superhero suit. It was weird.

Surprised you didn't mention Blue Demon, imo that mask is as synonyms with wrestling masks as El Santo. Not a complaint just surprised! Great video overall

Randy Orton mask looks to be an older 'burn mask' aka a compression mask. Used to help a burn victim's skin to compress, soften and stretch - helping to prevent major scarring. Usually worn between 6 months to 2 years - so the 2 weeks Orton wore it wouldn't have done anything to help. WWE logic, eh? Doesn't anyone in the company (WWE) know how to use Google? lmao

All the Kane and Rey Mysterios mask were top tier no doubt about it! Let the man breathe if he wants to while wrestling.

This is a hard topic to list. When you consider you have to differentiate between the mask design, and the person behind the mask. I mean, Vader's mask's a bit crap all things considered. But doesn't change how amazing Vader himself is though.

2002 masked kane is underrated

If Rellik's mask looks like Great Muta's to you, that's because it's supposed to. Johnny the Bull played a fake Muta in All Japan, and created the REDRUM character with the fake Muta mask.

Rellik was an evil version of Great Muta in Japan and then when that was over he became Redrum.

Ok I'll shock their we're not a lot of Mexican mask wrestlers on this list and and Japanese mask wrestlers like dragon kid(The first student of Ultimo Dragon), Great Sasuke, Super Delfin and HUB(who a legend in the Osaka area)

I believe El Santo inspired a character in the Jack Black movie Nacho Libre, one of my personal favourite films ever Also, Red Rum is a race horse, famous for winning the Grand National three times

As far as I can tell, Nacho Libre was inspired by Fray Tormenta. Who also partially inspired the Tekken character King among others.

Needs more lucha masks. Don't think Kane/Wyatt need 5 spots. Also, small correction, but AAA owns the Octagon/Pentagon trademarks, not CMLL. Pentagon gimmick was never in CMLL(Outside of Fenix/Pentagon Jr.'s brief run back in 2018). Antonio Pena took the Octagon gimmick from CMLL to AAA when he started that company and the evil version Pentagon was created in AAA.

Ultimo Dragon, should be on the highest tier!! 😠😠
