Tidying my son’s VERY messy bedroom

In this video I tackle the HUGE mess that is my boys bedroom. I focus on getting the floor cleared, putting everything back into its rightful place and then shampooing the filthy carpets. I really hope you enjoy!

Yes I watch one of your videos for the first time yesterday. I am a single mother of a 4 year boy with no help I do everything alone. When you speaking about how you felt about mental health and eating drinking soda. I was like oh my goodness she is taking the words out of my mouth this is me. I am glad I am not alone. ❤

Your channel popped up on my feed and I'm so grateful! You are literally saving my sanity. I am a 57 year old grandmother in the US and I'm raising my 4 year old grandson. I work from home but I'm locked down to my desk on a headset all day so I can't clean during work hours. And then I want to just snuggle him and play after work. My housework really suffers to the point of embarrassment! Thank you for your videos!!!

I just want to let you know how fantastic you are. It’s so refreshing to see a normal person cleaning her home and also speaking her truth to help others. It’s not perfect people in perfect homes pretending to clean… all with perfect make up, hair, nails, and filters!!! If anyone says a bad word about you, they are very sad individuals. I needed this today. Well done you! You are quite literally just exactly what I needed to hear 🙏😀xxx

I just binge watched all of your full videos! How I didn't know about them beyond me! I can't thank you enough for putting your raw, unapologetic, beautiful life out there for everyone to see and be a part of! I enjoy your shorts and full videos so much! I've watched so many others and you just don't get the real deal from some. I like real people. Not someone who portrays a certain persona for the camera. I love your authenticity! I'm a firm believer in being who you are no matter who likes it. I can't be around all that fake! So you are a breath of fresh air! I can relate to everything you post on such a personal level. I suffer from extreme mental health, body issues, whether I'm good enough, etc. There are days I go hard on cleaning house and there are days I just give the floors a vacuum and the counters a wipe down. Some days I literally have to drag myself to do anything at all... especially getting out of my pj's. I'm so proud of your journey. I didn't know you existed until KZread because I don't have a TikTok account anymore...ex boyfriend issue. Anyhow, I know I'm rambling on and on, I sincerely wish you every great thing you could ever imagine in your life! You most definitely deserve it! 😊

I have a friend who is a midwife with children of her own. Her life is crazy and hectic and she asked me for advice on how to declutter her bedroom without turning the room upside down (because she often had to drop everything to deliver a baby 😂) I told her to start with making her bed every morning as soon as she got out of it, because that would give her a lift and once she leaves that room, it may never happen. Then I told her to keep a cardboard box in her room and just go through one drawer at a time, and put anything she wanted to eliminate in the donation box. When she had gone through all of her drawers and closet, eliminating clutter, then she could rearrange items and drawers as she liked, without having a huge mess in the room. It took her a couple of weeks to work through this project (so many interruptions!) but she said this system really worked for her, and didn't disrupt her already manic life.

What an inspiring and incredible Mummy you are to your two young boys! Never justify any parenting style and nor do you ever have to explain anything. You are absolutely right; they are only little for a very short time, and you need to do what is right for the child at that time. Believe me with all my years of parenting and I'm still learning xx

When we lived paycheck to paycheck I asked family for gifts of experiences over toys, i.e. A day pass to the zoo, children's museum, water park, movie with snacks. These enrich the childrens' lives and leaves no clutter. Grandparents can give yearly passes. The One In, One Out rule is a life saver! I would also sstore half the toys in containers out of the way and rotate them out monthly. Kids don't get bored of toys they rarely see.

  • @remiclog

    @remiclog

Buying experiences is just the best idea, I agree! And as for the rotating toys, which is another fab idea, and one we’ve been told about often, unfortunately we don’t have any free storage space to keep the other toys.

My suggestion would be to put the toys your older son prefers to play with away from the younger one. Perhaps your oldest could play on the highest bunk? Also, just rotate toys out/in for the younger one to keep him interested in them. Also, make it a game with a timer for the both of them to put toys away. Then it doesn't seem like such a chore. Great job on decluttering.

My sister taught me a trick when my kids were little. It may sound weird but it helped. I would sweep all the clutter in a pile then sit down and go through the pile with the bins around me for sorting. It helped. For some folks, they may like all the moving around but I liked sitting down and sorting. It was soothing to me. The room reminds me of my kids when they were little. It used to get cluttered so fast. I would try and have them help but sometimes if it was really too cluttered, I would do it myself and next time have them help. Blessings to you!

Now from the moment I am woken up to the moment I put him down to bed, and even after cos he is like a tornado, I am constantly running cleaning up and looking after my two year old. Sometimes I just feel so useless. I was in tears the other day cos I was just trying to organize a day trip to the sea side, but because of my autism, that doesn’t come easily like it does for so many people 😢just keep trying not to cry. It makes it worse that I have no family to help me.

I hope things have improved for you over these past 7 months Lindsey. Life can be so so hard at times, and so overwhelming, I try to remember in those times that it won't last forever. Time is fleeting and even the hardest moments pass. What your partner did to you was awful, I am so sorry, I will never understand the cruelty some people seem to possess. I truly hope you realise how incredible you are. How strong you are. How brave you are. Your son will grow up appreciating what a wonderful mum he got to grow up with. I am sure he will grow into a young man who treats those around him with compassion, kindness and respect. I am already proud of you, he will be too, and so should you be. You have got this!

I find it quite annoying when people try to tell you how to raise your children. Every parent and every child is different. I have 4 and they all require different things from us as parents. It's not a one fits all kind of situation, even within the same household. Everyone should parent how it best suits them and their children. As long as the children/parents are all happy and healthy then your individual method is winning, as far as I am conferned.

So thank you for the constant reminder that they're little for such a short time, that it wont be like this forever and that its that its not perfect everyday. I'm also blessed with the same at Christmas and birthdays - he is absolutely spoilt! So I cover all the practical stuff - clothes, kitchen items, swimming gear, shoes etc. He loves them just as much 😊 I just need to not get attached to everything he gets and keep it all. My children and now my grandchildren gathered their toys and their things themselves from 3or 4 years old. When they were little we did it together, but then they did it without me. It's very strange for me to see how much time you spend to clean it yourself.

So it’s my 1 year old that does this. My 7 year old does put away. But I don’t think it’s fair for him to clear this level of mess when it wasn’t his doing

I'm sorry for the rude, judgy comments. We cosleep too. My husband snores loudly so he has his own room. I sleep with the kids in my room. The two older ones have their own rooms, but sleep in the bunk bed in my room and my little one has a toddler bed in my room but usually sleeps with me. It's no one's business but your own how you raise your kids. People need to just mind their own business.

The same is with me. My daughter (9yo) sleeps with me and her room is a total disaster. Every time I pass near it I close the door. You motivate me a lot. Yesterday I saw a video and cleaned my mess for about 40 minutes thinking that I would need at least 2 hours. I have dedicated this afternoon to put an order in her room. Thank you!

Note about night terrors: my kid used to sleepwalk (also a parasomnia) and my doctor told me that the children’s hospital wouldn’t do a sleep study until his iron levels were above a certain level. His levels were in the normal range (not low) but not as high as they require for a sleep study. So we got a children’s iron powder supplement and started giving him that every other day and… he stopped sleepwalking soon after. Maybe ask your doctor if it would be a reasonable thing to try? I was really surprised! We had always avoided sugary breakfast cereals (which are a big source of iron for a lot of kids because they fortify it with iron/folate/etc here in Canada). My kids eat meat so I thought that was good enough but I guess in our case it wasn’t.

I just watched your video on tips to tackling abig over whelming mess at home . It genuinely could not have randomly popped up on my KZread at a better time for me but everything U were saying in it was so relatable like I felt like Im exactly the same and it actually was so nice to no I'm not alone In This feeling with the mess and attacking things that have been left to the point of feeling to overwhelmed to do anything at all. Thank U so much!!! I'm about to watch the video about you cleaning your son's room now . Need need need to do the same with my son's room today as well. Its hard but yeah thank U again for your videos , I literally beat myself up about it so much thinking I must be the only mum that just can't seem to get on top and keep on top of the shit hole mess at my house and like U, most of the time I fell like o don't even no how it happens and how it happens so quickly😢❤

in many cultures such as mine, our young ones are let to sleep with their parents until they are ready, don't worry they will get there. the bond with their parents is incredible into adulthood. it is very true they are little for an incredibly short time 🥰

You are exactly right. Every family does things a bit differently and that is ok. When my son was about 2, he started waking up, running down the hall to our room and crawling in with me. He knew all he had to say was "I had a bad dream." I was concerned at one time but my husband said, "I'll bet he doesn't sleep with us when he is in high school"! Just as you said. And at some point, he stopped coming down. They do grow up.
