Hoarders ❤️ Kids Room Extreme DeClutter Part 1 | Clean with Me Motivation

This episode is very special to my heart bc I’m creating it with my oldest son Brandon. I keep his face off camera to protect his privacy. He wanted to clean, DeClutter and upgrade his room because he wanted to have a nice space for himself! I let him take the lead in Decluttering and Cleaning! Inside I’ve always worried that one of my boys would have hoarding disorder so it is important to help them not developed those hoarding behaviors. Brandon did a fantastic job and taught me some valuable life sessions too ❤️

It is interesting that both you and Brandon have reached the point at the same time where you are both done with the mess and can see it for what it is rather than develop an attachment to it. Pepper is just adorable!

Yes. They outgrow their childhood things. I tried to teach my children that every item they own needs to be assigned a home where they keep it. And it all must fit in designated area. Put things back in their home. New items need to be assigned a home.

I absolutely totally understand those dual feelings with our kids letting go easier than we do. And going back into the trash can!! But it does feel fabulous to see our kids have the freedom from objects. They are moving forward with their lives in front of them full force. 💘

My mom is a closet hoarder (she's in denial cause her stuff is "organized", but she has an entire room crammed full of stuff like you can't even get in there it's so full). When I was growing up my mom would complain about my room being messy and tell me I needed to go through my things. So I would. I'd get rid of a lot of stuff, AND SHE'D KEEP IT. I find the things I had gotten rid of months before just squirrelled away somewhere else in the house. Sometimes she still shows me clothes she "got at a yardsale" and I have to remind her that I actually decluttered those items months prior.

Boy, are you right! A therapist once remarked that hoarding disorder reminds her of a big, dark house. She says she attempts to help her clients 'turn the lights on' so they can look into the corners, the closets, under the beds, etc. for the background of hurt and loss and dysfunction which underlies the need to compulsively save. Didn't you say something like this? So true. I bet you are helping a lot of folks who may never come to your attention but will do better because you are sharing with such candor and accuracy. God bless you, sincerely!

My mom totally did the trash can thing. When I was 18, she had me grab a box out of the attic and open it. It was all those childhood toys I had tossed lol. We had a good laugh but then I made sure that they were truly trashed after that. It's great you're aware *now* and working on it.

I put 4 or 5 plastic shopping bags in each wastebasket. WEekly trash empty went faster and when that urge to purge hit child or me, no running around for garbage bags. As out of sorts as the room looks. I am impressed. not that bad considering how busy the family has been. Even the muddle shows how much forward movement has happened with your family.

Thank you for hearing him out and trusting his judgement on ripping the card. After the first week he could probably do a three minute pickup each night before bed. After doing that daily he might get to the point of putting stuff away immediately. It would be up to him what strategy he prefers.

I got rid of things regularly as I would get bored and I would clean out dresser drawers and the closet. Many decades later I would think I should have kept those things...but I would get over those thoughts n a minute. Kids should enjoy their toys and as they grow older, it's time to move on to the next age appropriate toys. It's a progression and most homes don't have the space to keep everything. The stress of seeing clutter is too much for me. Your son is doing a great job of decluttering!

the regular cards were killing me a little bit just because i know theres some kid somewhere that would have been excited to have any pokemon cards. but i do know i have to come to terms that not everything in the world is going to be done how my heart wants it to

It is actually therapeutic for me to listen to all you say in the video... Thank you so much. I really needed the exposure to another side of this issue. Healing... sigh.

It might help if you have a regular time for picking up and putting away, either daily or weekly. Then it won't be a big challenge when it happens, and it will help him develop skills that will be valuable in adult life.

I don't think I will ever understand why monster energy drinks are popular for decor.😅 I would double check that are clean before letting him do that. I don't think he would want ants! But you're such a great mom you probably already did!👍❤️

Awesome job! Your cat seems so sweet! Our family hasn't had a cat in years since ours passed. But thinking of adopting one from a shelter next year!

Good for Brandon letting and cleaning his room. Yeah don't pull things out of the trash at least in front of them. I remember my dad digging through donation bags and pulling things from the trash to hold onto. It's not a plesent memory
