That was bloody great! I just moved to Weipa from Busselton in southwest WA and fished Exmouth a bit, experiencing those tides though not understanding drivers behind them. Thanks for going on to explain how to work the tides, with the price of fuel everyone wants to get the most out of each trip and that will help plan what the best use of the day will be. You coulda been a geography teacher in another life haha, much appreciated

If you plan on fishing the Cape or the Gulf from the NT side, don’t rely too much on tide charts. It’s a hard place to predict and as a result, the times and heights can be out by a fair amount.

Thanks Lost Aussies. The tides in the Gulf are so confusing. If I got into detail that video would have been an hour long. The problem is something as simple as wind direction can have a big effect on the tides for days. So the tide charts are calculated on the predominant wind direction and no big low pressure systems stuffing everything up. This means that it’s around a 50/50 proposition for the accuracy of tide charts. And I haven’t found one to be better than another sorry. I wish I could help more than that but the Gulf has its very own ecosystem when it comes to tides and just doesn’t behave like the rest of the country. Good luck in August. Great time to fish and stay on the Cape. Let me know if you do well with the fishing. Wardy.

Hey Mate What's the best time to fish on the mixed Diurnal tides? I mainly do them separately on both tides that go out, basicaly a morning tide out and then we get a afternoon tide run out but its Mixed Diurnal usual the second tide in is 1m lower and then that contiues to out to another 1m drop making our low tide 0.9 ( for me to catch a tide in im looking at waking up at 2am.. lol)

G'day mate. I also fish them like that but prefer the lower tide drop. The low tide brings bait and barra out of the shallow creeks. Funny enough, they bite better when the tide starts to push back in. But the lower the better. I also use the mixed diurnal tide to fish places like the bridge where the current rips in too fast on a normal tide. For example, if high tide is 2m, then it only drops to about 1.8 before it runs back in again, it gives me a little bit of flow but not too much that I can't fish the bridge. Just one more.... the SD tides can be so slow for the barra that I will push up stream where the tide slows and the barra don't come off the bite during the small tides. I have a creek here in Weipa that I can push up into the fresh water and smash barra when the salties near the river mouth are shut down cause of the p[oot tides. Does that all make sense??

@@wardysfishing9403 Yes cheers mate i Understand you perfectly. it all makes sense: Creek systems here are mostly on private property but I've got a few spots i get to on land with a bit of walking to find the creek run offs but starting to like the bridges and Jetty's now I've had a taste of everything, now I'm mainly chasing the Jacks, finger mark, queen and GT's around the Bridges and Jetty's here In cairns. ps only land based, Gonna get the tin soon.
