Ticket To Ride Legacy - Board Game Spoiler Free Review - Derailing A Classic
In Ticket to Ride Legacy: Legends of the West, players embark on twelve journeys across North America as 19th century pioneers. The campaign begins on the East Coast, with players working their way to the West from one adventure to the next, meeting challenges along the way. As in Ticket to Ride, completing your tickets will remain your primary goal, but you will need to develop other skills if you hope to overcome the unexpected events and your resourceful rivals. Game after game, route after route, you will continuously fill your vault with earnings. As the story progresses, you will open frontier boxes that unlock new rules, content, and many more surprises.
In the Legacy style, Legends of the West is a unique experience molded by player choices. Each player has their own role to play, allowing them to change the way the story unfolds around them. Combined with evolving mechanisms that change as the game progresses, players will have a new experience every time they gather around the board.
At the end of the twelve games in this legacy campaign, you will have transformed your game into a unique copy that you can continue playing for a lifetime.

Game of the year for our playgroup :D We played the campaing with 3 players. The end result was absolutely close: 1. 1216 points 2. 1214 points 3. 1204 points. It was tens and pure fun throught the whole campaign. Best TTR and Legacy experience for us. I agree that the story aspect is not a big deal and there's luck factor in the game (the OG TTR has as well), but the gameplay throught the whole campaign was fun.

Maybe or maybe the spread is more unusual. You've both played the campaign once and had very different experiences, I'm not buying it at the minute as I'm not a big fan of TtR. Thanks for your review and thoughts.

I have finish the game and can say everyone in the group enjoyed every game. Yes, later games can last over an hour, can have a lot of mechanisms, robber, ghost train, broken bridges, shares, treasure but nothing too hard to handle. Some got more postcards, some do not get many, some tried different strategies in different games in the hope it would win them the game. Yes, nothing mind blowing new in the whole game, but then there is nothing new under the sun. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Verdict 8 out of 10.

Appreciate the review and you sharing your perspective! Interestingly base TTR is just meh for me due to it being pretty basic and luck-based, but my wife and I are halfway through this one and having an absolute blast. I liked the changes they made to the basic rules even in year 1 and for some reason the luck factor doesn’t at all bother me in this one because I’m just having a great experience. Maybe it’s the result of playing it with my non-gamer wife so I’m taking a much more casual approach and not at all concerned about winning? Which is unusual for me as I usually gravitate towards low-luck & high-depth strategy games. Or maybe (but hopefully not) it’s because we’re only halfway through and haven’t gotten to the slog.

  • @TheBrokenMeeple

There's already one errata for the "2 component broken game" I mention. It still makes the card stupidly powerful and you can still "semi break" the game with it but it's not as ridiculous now. But it's stupid that it didn't get noticed in playtesting.

And you will have the standard size trains and train cards to use in other versions. The anniversary game, at least the one for Europe which I got, is huge. No! I want to do this sir! Don't do that because we will all lose! Oh, OK - I'll just go to the loo then and while I'm there you may as well take my turn and the next one as well! In fact, it is easier to win if one player thinks for all of us. PL overrated pointless legacy game ever. As least TTR legacy is TTR. However, I do agree with you on price/worth it for a legacy game that you may not play when finished. I suppose one one to look at it: costs £18 per person for a 2 hour cinema ticket l, TTR 10 - 12 hours give or take a little 3 or 4 players - 1 player £108 × 3 or 4 players.

Ok, I'll redo the maths for you. Cinema tickets £7.99, but I'm calling it £8, cheap seats without drinks and snacks. Generously, I'll say the film lasts 3 hours but more likely 2 plus 1 hour adverts. TTR 12 sessions overall around 12 hours with 4 people. Therefore 4 x £8 =£32 × 4 sessions to equal the 12 hour TTR playtime = £128. TTR £80. I'd say TTR Legacy is not bad valve for money. Now I'm off to see Dune 2 😊
