I love the princess and the frog. They did not do the movie justice with this.... Its OK to have bad guys. They should have retold the main story with the shadow man. They knew this was a controversial change and it looks like the budget cut it regardless.....

As an older attraction, Splash seems to have more personality than the brand new Tiana. Tiana is very dark in spots, and that may be because it was filmed later in the day but it feels like it was done on purpose to hide the fact that there is nothing there. That final song doesn't have the same feel to it as the Splash one in my opinion. Also, I am not a fan of all the screens being used. At least the ride itself didn't change, mechanically, and you still get the thrill from the hill.

Song of the South is about a wise old black man comforting a little white boy with stories about animals while his parents are temporarily separated. The white boy considers the black man as his best friend. The white boys mother, Ms. Sally, doesn’t like the stories and tells the black man to stay away from her son. He decides to leave and the white boy gets hurt by a bull when going into it’s fence trying to stop the black friend from leaving. It ends happily ever after with the boy making a full recovery after his dad comes back and it shows him, his black friend Toby, and little girl friend Ginny singing and the animals from the black man’s stories being real and the black man rubbing his eyes like he’s seeing things. @@princesspikachu3915 The problem with the movie is its portrayal of black workers and maids being merry and happily contented working the fields of a plantation owned by a rich white family during a racially inequitable period of history. While it's important to acknowledge history for what it is rather than refusing to admit that it happened, there are some historical periods, events and settings that are simply not appropriate to "Disney-fy" in a children's movie. I'm aware the movie takes place during the Reconstruction Era, after the American Civil War, which means that the black characters in the movie are not slaves, and that's a common point defenders of the movie like to use. But neither are they treated with the same degree of respect or status as the white characters in the story, which is what makes the setting so inappropriate to paint with a lens of whimsy or nostalgia. Yes, the movie portrays itself as innocent and cute - but context matters, and portraying an inequitable society in which the oppressed group is contented in their oppression is never appropriate. Perhaps the film is not malicious in intent so much as it is dangerously ignorant, but that's still something that needs to be openly acknowledged about it. The animated segments fare a lot better because they were based off of preexisting African fables and folk tales, so it's no surprise that the ride took only from the animated segments and disregarded the rest of the movie. As I said previously, I liked the Brers, and I liked the ride. Splash Mountain was actually my favorite ride, so I understand the people who are still so upset that it's gone. I don't see a problem with Brer Rabbit as a character - but there is most certainly a problem with Song of the South.

The appeal of Splash Mountain was that you were travelling through this hidden community of critters that slowly reveals itself as the ride progresses. The Brer Rabbit narrative was just a reason for the journey to happen. Bayou Adventure starts off the same, gives you a reason for travelling into the Bayou, but there is no sense of travelling through this hidden critter community. It's just a sequence of lifeless set pieces. They could have kept most of the side characters from Splash Mountain and just replaced the narrative centric scenes.

Thank you! Yes! You articulate what made Splash Mountain work. It wasn't the "story" as so many people insist. Story isn't really important for a theme park ride. Quality set design is what matters. Of course, pacing and flow matter enormously too, but strict narrative logic doesn't. What SM had and TBA lacks are (1) well-populated scenes with tons of stuff to look at; SM placed charming details into every nook and cranny; (2) mood/emotional modulation; the tone of SM changed during the course the ride whereas TBA maintains the same tone throughout: and (3) conflict, which is related to the previous; conflict-less rides can work (e.g. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train) but long attractions, such as SM, need conflict to generate a payoff at the end. Also, the dialogue in TBA is super cringey.

Splash was spellcasting. So immersive psychedelic and put you in a trance. This ride just doesnt have the same atmospheric or musical storytelling. In other words its not the visuals i take issue with its everything else. Rsther than unexpected drops and tonal shifts in the music and lighting theres all these voiceovers telling you whats going on. Oh were shrinking now. Oh now were big again. Now were going to a party. Now were looking for food. Okay. Should have been all voodoo from the drop in the middle of the ride until the big drop at the end. The song at the end special spice should play earlier, before you get to the scene. You hear about 16 counts of it. Nobody will learn the song and find it catchy if they only hear it for 20 seconds

Agree, but I knew they weren't gonna do it. They changed this ride for the same reason. They're scared to add anything controversial. They keep hinting at this villians park, but even IF they do it, it's gonna be the biggest money grab in the smallest area. Packed full of marketing, shopping, food, photo ops, a 4 hour meet and greet, and 2 rides with no theme. I guess they forget why we fell in love with these characters and Disney in the first place.

Back when Splash was closing I went on it 18 times in one day. That made me notice how much the ride was filled with small details. Whether it was an animatronics, the gorgeous scenery, or details you'd normally miss like a book next to a character. You could tell how much hard work and love went into it. Now watching Bayou Adventure, it just feels soulless. They took Splash's corpse and filled it with hobby lobby plants and threw in an animatronic or two. Br'er Rabbit and Tiana deserved better.

Disney has let its creative leadership (talent, taste, vision holders) go in exchange for ill-equipped, inexperienced cheerleaders who don’t know how to lead creative projects at a high level of execution. These are people who think it’s unkind to critique or push those around you to a higher standard. It will seem like all is happy and well but it will cost Disney in the long run.

And we got... this. Like, it's fine... but where's the suspense? Why didn't they just do the story of the movie so Facilier could be on the ride? It would have been so much more exciting. The way the original built up the suspense before the big drop was genius. Such a shame they couldn't replicate that. I mean, they didn't even TRY.

This is what happens when a cost cutting accountant "Charita Carter" with no creative experience is put in charge of Disney Imagineering. Notice NO craftsmanship at all!!! They stripped splash mountain, didn't create anything requiring skill, they just bought flowers from Hobby Lobby, made some or recycled into teddy bear animatronics, and the only construction was the last scene that any construction worker could do. Imagineering team have no talent or craftsmen anymore. They strip rides (she did Great Movie Ride too), replace with cheap projections and things you can buy at any made in China craft or thrift shop. Hotels too. All custom furnishings replaced with Super 8 Motel decor, etc. Then they cut out fast pass, raise prices, cut food quality. I guess Disney's new target market are people that think McDonald's food is gourmet and Walmart items are fine craftsmanship, etc. Disney executives probably think most can't appreciate little details, craftsmanship, quality food, etc, so they now will serve crap and people will happily pay more for it.

Splash Mountain had so many more animatronics and it wasn't as dark as this one. This one doesn't even have a real story to it. Why didn't they make it more about the story....The princess and the frog? I loved the story in Splash and I think it's sickening the Disney people did not put it out there first to see how the public would react before converting our wonderful Splash Mountain to Tiana's Chia Pet. It also appears to be much louder. Why is she screaming when she talks...ugh! I don't think this one is going to make a hit and I have a feeling Disney is going to feel the pinch of this costly mistake. I hope one day they own up to their mistake and put Splash back.

I can't wait to ride the Disneyland version which will probably be a little tighter as the track is shorter. Love the colors, the music and especially the cuban rythem during the underground cave sequence. All they have to do is take the CoComelon video out and just use more of the wonderful fireflies and they'd get an A from me. As it is it gets a B+. I'm sure I'll give it an A once I ride it. I love that they took the scenery into the night time by the way. Dark spaces give you a chance to focus on the show scenes. I love the new song from what can be heard. Reminds me of a Shermans Brothers song written for one of the parks birthday parades. Great job Disney folks! Now quit messing with Pirates and please fix the Disneyland version of Winnie the Pooh. :) PS The grand finale looks beautiful. The film aspects don't translate well on video I'm hoping it's different live.

I will say it looks beautiful at night and I love the music. There are zero stakes or danger in the story (which is collecting players for the band in the finale scene?) but in the places they have groupings of animatronics they look great. I think Splash mountain also had some dead spaces in it and in retrospect they were recycling animatronics from America Sings so they had a ton they could just stick in every nook and cranny. My favorite detail is after the drop, the crickets are chirping in rhythm with the song. So it's literally just an elaborate musical cruise, which is fine if you think about it as the equivalent of if they made Country Bear Jamboree a ride, it would basically be this, but with New Orleans music and newer characters.

Splash Mountain was my favorite ride at Magic Kingdom, and when I heard the news that it was gonna be replaced by a PATF reimagining, I was sad but at the same time excited because I love the movie, characters and especially, the songs. Words cannot describe how disappointed I am with the final product. Sure, some of the animatronics are beautiful works of art and engineering, the nighttime lightning outside the ride looks gorgeous, and the finale is amazing. But the rest of the ride? It's just so dull, unimaginative and boring...the "story" is mostly a copy and paste throughout the whole ride where scene after scene you recruit animals for the party, there are a ton of empty lifeless hallways with almost nothing going on, there is little to no sense of buildup or excitement as you approach the final drop, and for me the worst part of it all, is they somehow managed to implement some of the songs from the movie in such a lazy, nonsensical way. Like, if you're going to commit on creating a new original story happening *after* the events of the first movie, why the hell is "Going down the bayou" playing, if Ray sings that song?? Didn't Ray die and reincarnate as a star in the movie? And also, why is "Dig a little deeper" playing? In what context does the song work for the ride? Did they even bother to see the movie and the message behind the song? The ride would've worked way better as a retelling of the movie. There was plenty of space to focus on all the major scenes of the movie, they could have used the amazing songs throughout the ride, and just imagine the final buildup with Tiana facing off against Dr Facilier as "Friends from the other side" plays before the big drop? And even if they didn't want to do a retelling and rather focus on a fresh new story, there was so much wasted potential with this ride. I'm not bashing the Imagineers, I'm sure they did their absolute best to work with what they got, but they probably faced a lot of problems with the executives and the common budget cuts Disney has been recently doing...like how the original ride concept was supposed to have a big beautiful tree on top of the mountain with Mama Odie's boat on top. Overall, Disney once again leaves a lot to be desired...I truly hope that when Epic Universe opens, they get a big wake up call, and start doing/planning/making more amazing stuff like how Oriental Land Company does with the Tokyo Disneyland/Disneysea resort

We love Princess and a Frog (watched it for the 1st time in a theater in Shreveport, LA). I was raised in the South and have lived in the South most of my life. We lived in LA for almost 10 yrs and have visited New Orleans many times (it's one of my favorite non-Disney places to visit). The new ride does captiure some of the essence of what I love about New Orleans. I agree that there are several spots that are underwhelming. I love things about Navi River Journey, and there's elements of that peaceful calmness and ambiance here, but it's also a bit boring for this ride. The animatronics are quite impressive, but I do miss so many of the old animals that would have 100% fit the Bayou theme and wish they had been updated/repurposed. My favorite part of the retheming is the underground scenes and the "magic" that takes us there. The ending has some beautiful and fun elements but again, I miss the Riverboat and everyone knows New Orleans is famous for the Riverboats...it should have been updated and repurposed somewhere even if they didn't use the same animatronics. These are my opinions, and I know not everyone agrees, but that's okay.

Superstar Limo built in 2001 still remains the worst ride-through attraction in Disney history. But Tiana's is giving it a run for its money. Also, the new Peter Pan ride at DisneySea in Tokyo is nothing but projected images on widescreens. SMH.

My thoughts exactly. For me, the only things keeping this firmly above Superstar Limo are the A-1000’s, some of the music and the fact that nothing can be quite so aesthetically abhorrent as Superstar Limo. Outside of those key areas, it’s a dumpster fire top to bottom, especially when you consider what it replaced and why. As bad as Superstar Limo was, Michael Eisner commissioning an attraction for a cheap, self-indulgent laugh at the entertainment industry is much easier to forgive than what was essentially a book burning for Splash Mountain and anything remotely connected to it.

I agree that the storytelling in the new version seems less coherent and it doesn't feel like there is any kind of true suspense. But to be honest, I think the new version look so much more beautiful and atmospheric. There are a bunch of impressive effects and the animatronics are such an upgrade. The old ones always gave me the creeps. And honestly, I don't go to rides for a story but because they have impressive sights to see etc. and I think Tiana delivers this much better. Idk why everyone is on about saying the new one is dark and empty, because I think Splash seemed much more of those things to me when riding it. I'm honestly excited for this one!

The issue is that those story elements worked in Splash Mountain's favor to make the final drop much more effective (and makes narrative sense in the story). This just randomly has the final drop appear out of nowhere for no real reason other than the fact it was there before. Since it's not incorporated into the story in any meaningful way, it lacks the same suspense and excitement of the original, which for me is the biggest deal breaker of the retheme. The story and ride for Splash went together like peanut butter and jelly: simple, but did its job effectively. This feels like peanut butter and ham: the individual ingredients aren't bad on their own, but they clearly do not work well together.
