Thunderstorm near Montreal - September 7th, 2020
***I STRONGLY RECOMMEND USING EARPHONES/HEADPHONES (BASS AMPLIFIED) TO HEAR THE MORE NATURAL SOUND OF THE RAIN***
A short video compilation of a briefly sustained isolated non-severe thunderstorm that formed over Saint-Eustache during the late-afternoon. Lightning was detected between 6:10 to 6:20 p.m. EDT. The thunderstorm formed in response to a strongly sheared environment and increasing lift ahead of a cold front. However, instability was very weak, owing to limited mid-level cooling rates and poor solar heating throughout much of the day (not helped by now shorter daylight/photoperiod).The video shows the thunderstorm in the distance, followed by some heavy convective rains during the mid- to late-evening.
Footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal’s West Island. Radar imagery is courtesy of NOAA.
