Thunderstorm near Montreal - October 1st, 2020
A video compilation showing a brief non-severe thunderstorm that was present just West of the Vaudreuil-West Island corridor, in St-Clet, during the early-evening.
The thunderstorm/deep convection was associated with substantial solar heating, steep mid-level cooling rates (together providing low instability), and some lift associated with a vorticity lobe to the South. Shearing fields were also very strong, allowing for some organization and rapidly-moving convection.
The footage first shows a heavy convective rainfall that affected the SW West Island during the mid-afternoon. Following this, some footage of the non-severe thunderstorm can be seen, including one captured lightning discharge. This makes back-to-back years where thunderstorms affected this general area on this day.
Footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal’s West Island.
