Thunderstorm in Montreal - July 31st, 2020

***I STRONGLY RECOMMEND USING EARPHONES/HEADPHONES (BASS AMPLIFIED) TO HEAR THE MORE NATURAL SOUND OF THE THUNDER/RAIN***
A video compilation of an isolated thunderstorm that affected the West Island of Montreal during the mid-afternoon. This thunderstorm was a part of small group of thunderstorms that affected the area on this day. Thunderstorms were associated with a mid- to upper-level trough, as well as significant solar heating and high humidity. The trough also produced locally marginally steep mid-level cooling rates. Together, this led to moderate instability. Shearing fields, like the previous day, were weak, and so thunderstorms were briefly sustained and slow-moving. Although lift was weak, local outflow boundaries left behind by the thunderstorms of the previous day likely produced the convergence necessary for thunderstorm initiation for this afternoon. This was now the 14th thunderstorm day for the island.
Footage was taken in SW Pierrefonds, located in Montreal’s West Island. Radar imagery is courtesy of NOAA.
