Frank , consider the exhaust ports , the covers fall open on the capsize test. it needs a mechanism to keep that shut or partially shut in a capsized position to avoid flooding when capsized, or on a motor stall in a capsize situation . been there done that. same goes for air intakes ....

Thunder Child needs hammock mounts for sleeping, with bungee cord for shrouds to take some of the shock out. Takes up less space for storage and easier to handle than a mattress.

wastegate yeah. With that boat you don't need equipment anymore. You just drive as fast as you can and hope that some fish bang against the boat. Just have to pick them up afterwards. God this comment is stupid. I'm sorry. Have a great day :D

There is a lot of offshore experience in the design of this boat. It is very easy to design and make a boat, but to add that clever curve in the hull to achieve a very important particular behaviour, takes an observant eye when looking at boats ploughing through waves. The success of this boat lay in the fact that the "keel" line or the lowest part of the Vee is not straight all the way to the knee of the bow only to turns up at the bow. The bottom is kept straight from the transom to about 0.66 from the back, then it starts turning up slowly and the knee of the bow is way up high from the water level. This characteristic built in the hull will give it a great advantage over the ones with a longer straight bottom line . With a longer straight bottom, the knee of the bow will enter the water quickly and the digging of the nose into the water will provide a lot of drag due to the sides being immersed and it is not uncommon that if one is not wearing a safety belt, one would hit anything in front of him as the boats slows down quickly but the person proceeds with his momentum. With a raised knee at the bow, well what happens is that the entry into the wave is totally different, and so the hull will rock slowly into the oncoming wave, where the additional planing area at the bottom will resist the nose diving through a planing effect and not a buoyancy effect. In fact this characteristic has been thought out so well that the elevated knee at the bow hardly ever enters the water, unless the wave is reasonably high, and even then the piercing effect of the narrow bow will see to it that the boat will not slow down. It is this slow transaction into the on coming wave that is the real success of this boat. This, in addition of the aspect ration and narrowness of the hull make a good compromise for the conditions this boat will meet. That is basically the principal characteristic of this hull, but of course, the centre of gravity, the power selected , propeller matching do count, but they are not as sensitive for comfort as is the raised knee at the bows. Congratulations to the designer, builders and crew, the hull is good, but the crew's condition must be tip top. Well done and also it is well appreciated that though you were on a record breaking mission, you still found time to remember those who lost their lives.

Frank Kowalski, Sir, I remember that about nine years ago I had advised the Maltese Harbour pilots to chose their boats from Safehaven. They provided me with specifications and when I looked them over, they were very good indeed apart from some minor issues. I believed they did buy that boat. I come from a traditional boat building family and the nearest I have been to Ireland is a few visits to the Isle of Arran. You build excellent boats.

Very nice low center of gravity. Aggressive chines and most of all a very nice balance of the front to rear weight ratio. Keeping stern in the water . Is there a provision of taking in more cooling water then is required so as to provide for when the intakes are out of the water. How about dry sump to the oil?

Is there any way to make the windscreen night visions you have the entire view instead of a small screen? Just asking. I don't know the optics and functionality of night visions, but if you could condense it to just add a little thickness to the screen, why not make it full screen. I'm not an engineer, so I was curious

thunder child can sail around the world with its design, strength, advanced equipments and instruments . with experienced navigators captains and just refuel every ports..can withstand harsh environments and big waves but with advance gps and weather sats can avoid big waves and storms as well preventing it to go in the first place. but its unsinkable it can withstand storms.

Very nice boat. Handles well, all the tech and reliable engines. Its a winner! I think you could have spent a bit more money on the inflatable and perhaps and engine for it. All it needs is my thundercat on the back and you could do quick rescues if the water depth or position of resuce was not practical for your boat.
