The big packing cube works great if you put smaller packing cubes inside. Then all comes out with one pull when you arrive your destination and you have your slim (big) daily carry.

Looking very much forward to get the 40 liter after owning the subterra 34 for almost two years. How does the pack feel on the back for longer walks and fully packed out? Do you miss the hipbelt?

I thought the subterra 40 was a great pack except for one thing. I'd have liked some foam on the back so it's a nicer and less sweaty carry with the rucksack straps. Otherwise it was near perfect. Simple design, a great laptop sleeve with organisation and very durable.

@@PackHacker2 that's no problem. I reckon Thule designed this as a travel duffel that can be a backpack rather than a backpack that can be a duffel. It's a shame because there's a few manufacturers that have made packs with a stowable harness and a comfortable pack panel. Another issue for buyers is purchase experience. For example if I want to buy a Heimplanet backpack I can buy their entire product line from the manufacturer's website and it's shipped promptly. The same applies to Osprey. I can't do that with Thule unfortunately.

Good grief, did an irate bagger try to take the Alpha Packhacker's eye out because of a critical bag review? The perils of appraising backpacks in Motown! Take care yourselves over there.
