That's what I liked about my pxn shifter I got with the wheel, when my pxn V10 wheel died I could still use the pedals and shifter via usb and then just got a cheap TMX wheel.. I hate proprietary stuff that you end up locked with like budget Logitech wheels

Just for this in today. I attached to my base but didn’t play yet. Of course I fiddled with it a little though and it feels really good. Can’t wait to actually try it out

Thanks for taking it apart. I read some comments online from people being under the impression that it has the same (metal) internals as the TH8A - totally unrealistic for 2/5 of the price. This is a good video to link to if I ever come across that misconception again.

Fun fact. If you have a ps3, GT 5 and as T500rs. you can use the shifter via USB-C by connecting to another USB port and then game recognise it and you can use all of the gears.

Useful to see it being disassembled as i wondered if the 3DRap mod could be added to provide more resistance, i guess not with the plastic internals. Accurate review, I bought this shifter for occasional use in GT7, it fits the bill perfectly as it was hard to justify the additional expense of T8HA. It's generally faster to use the paddles but its fun to use the clutch sometimes and adds an extra level of realism and immersion especially when playing in VR.

3DRAP do have a special tension mod for this shifter. It's not the same as the TH8A mod. I should be getting the mod in, to test and review in the near future.

Can you add a truck shifter on it too? because so far I've only seen truck shifter add ons compatible with the normal th8 but not mentioning the th8s. Thanks in advance

I did see a gear knob mod on eBay to do this a while back. It's simply a screw adaptor that goes in the top of the stick.

Do you know the thread size and length for the screw that holds in the shift knob?

Which of the amazon/aliexpress shifters would you consider to be a better alternative to the TH8S?

I was wondering if you know if the red outline can be separated from the shifter itself. My plan is to spray paint it to match the color of the shifter

I'm just waiting on a T248 and a TH8S to play on PC but you're saying the DIN cable won't work? I must connect it through USB-C? I would've thought the wheel could pass it as a different device, hmmm :(

The USB-C plugs into the shifter, gave me a bit of a fright when i saw that too but yeah

I personally use the shifter that you reviewed, and I don't regret buying it, but it's pretty unreliable. I have already changed one, and now I would prefer something on the Hall sensor

Do you mean the Chinese metal shifter? What did fail? The circuit board, the buttons or the mechanical part.

Good video, i have a Logitech Wheel without shifter, I was considering buy a Chinese shifter, but my brother did buy on and I find it is to much clunky, did no like the feel, this Thrustmaster seems far better and since is connected direct to the PC is good for upgrades, Its a shame they don't this for their pedals and try to scam you to buy another adapter to connect to the PC.

Can you rotate the internals by 180 degrees so it’s facing the other way? To mount it comfortable I need to mount it so what would’ve been 1st gear is reverse.

Was wondering if you’ve tried the PXN A7 shifter? It has USB, RJ11, and the DIN connector for use with the Thrustmaster Wheels on consoles and is $10 bucks cheaper than the TH8S. Thanks! And I appreciate any info you may have to share on the topic. 👊

Can the door to switch from pc to ps5 can be removed? I would like to have both connected all the time and not have to unplug and plug every time.

Yes, if you take the top off, as in my teardown, it falls out.

yes, I have a TMX Pro and bought it recently. It works great for me, I play mostly ETS2 and Gas Guzzlers. The material in the shifter is thin cloth so it will be harder to clean, I suggest getting a winter hat or similar size to keep on it while it is not in use (can't wipe with a damp cloth like the "leather" counterparts).

Yes! But only on pc,laptop. And you need to connect the shifter directly to the pc.
