I went the other direction. I got tired of wet tumbling, all that leaking water & soap & Lemme shine, expensive SS pins stuck everywhere. I now use a Franklin Arsenal dry tumbler with crushed walnut dry media & a teaspoon full of Nu Finish car wax & let her run for 3 hours out in the garage, beautiful results! I will NEVER go back to wet tumbling. I do sometimes toss the shells in the kitchen sink & wash/rinse a little with just my fingers before I put into the dry tumbler, that's all you need.

The brass comes out like you are showing. Nice and shiny. Cleaning brass on he cheap. It’s a lot cheaper and buying a tumbler and media. Good job. I also wet tumble with SS media, after you are done drying, the cases tarnish really fast, no matter how good you rinse, if you prep and store a lot of brass, that can be a problem. The acid in Lemi is the problem, I still tumble with corn cob and auto polish for about 1/2 hour after they are dry, cases stay “purdy” forever. Just my .02. Good video!

If you have the cash for a wet tumbler or haven't yet bought a tumbler wet is worth it. Most people say you dont need pins with most brass and I agree. I prefer the SS chips (for primer pockets) 1 teaspoon lemishine and a capfull armorall wash and wax. The wash and wax instead of dawn helps prevent tarnish. A dry tumbler and Nufinish or Carubana wax will keep loaded rounds shiny for a long time.

Dumb question, though; do you need to worry about drying the inside of the brass when wet tumbling like this? Or will enough air get through the case with the old primer removed to air dry the brass?

This helps it stay noce and clean for years. Have seen brass that was not so clean jam ar's but clean it and the stuff runs nps.

The formula I use to clean my brass: 1 soft drink bottle of 2 liters (already cleaned, of course); 1 Liter of water (it doesn´t need to be hot water); 50 ml of lemon juice; 50 ml of white vinegar; and 50 ml of liquid detergent (the one you use to do the dishes). Drop your brass inside the soft drink bottle along with the ingredients above. Shake it from 5 to 10 minutes, and that´s it! Put them to dry. The external result is excellent. But you will need to use a Lyman Primer Pocket Cleaner (or similar tool) to clean better inside the prime pockets.

That is the rub, so to speak, is "like new" worth the trouble? That is what everyone has to work out for themselves. Serious rethink as I pick out media from flash holes, because I forgot to leave the primers in before I tumbled! I'm not into volume shooting so it is a balancing act of time, effort, expense etc. Gotta love these forums.

To save money and your health, make your own darn iced tea and you can put it in the same jug when it cools. Seriously now, if you can get citric acid (the candle making kind is fine) cheaper than that shine product use the citric acid. As well I heard of someone using spent primers as medium to help clean the inside of the shells but I have not tried that primer trick yet myself but plan to. Also heard of someone using laundry detergent instead. Never tried detergent but dawn is for grease and laundry detergent is for dirt, fired brass has burnt powder dirt and not grease so I will have to try that.

I'd concede that the brass is cleaner after the wet tumble, but doesn't it take longer before you can load it? I mean, it's wet, so doesn't that little bit of water booger up the powder if you load it within 24 hours of wet tumbling? My dry tumbler is the larger Dillon set up and yah, it runs for a couple hours. But it takes less of my hands on time to process and when it's done, it's done and ready to load. Your thoughts? I do like the appearance of the wet tumbled brass.

Remember, forgiveness is easier to receive than permission... just sayin. I’ve wet tumbled and have a Hornady Sonic cleaner too. Wet cleans well but left the brass with a dull finish. Good subject matter. I have noticed recently that the Brasso and Wright's brass polish that I use now with the tumbler, both contain ammonia. I have been considering trying straight ammonia (super cheap) and water(super cheaper). I will try your method, only with Dawn and ammonia and see what happens. I am into cheap and efficient too. Good video. Thanks.

Do not use Ammonia! It reacts with brass and causes issues, it will attack it and make it brittle! Look it up, not a good mix for bullets.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Is your comment based on a scientific study done by a qualified chemist? I base my opinion on over 100,000 rounds in calibers .45 ACP, .38 SPCL and 9mm, reloaded. I shoot em all until they split, which is caused by metal fatigue due to re-sizing casing, belling, crimping and firing. I will continue to use the products I use to clean cases based on personal experience, and not on something I read on the internet.

My short cycle really rumbles around good!!!Maybe that would work good too!!!Thanks,J. Jeffrey

    J. Jeffrey Miller Don't forget, the brass is contaminated with lead and other heavy metals from the projectile, primer, and propellant. You will be contaminating every piece of clothing your family wears, exposing them all to heavy metals.

You can get a cheap tumbler from harbor freight for around $25 and SS pins for about $15. They don't have the huge capacity of the big brands, but I can run 100-223 at a time or 50-308 at a time or 200-44 mag. Before I bought the tumbler, I would throw my cases in a large water bottle with pins and throw it in the dryer with a load of towels, but the wife started getting pissed hearing it bang around.

Buy a tumbler and stainless pins. Deprime case run tumbler 1hr to 2hrs. Brass comes out clean and shiny and the primer hole will be clean. Also by the tumbler to separate pins and brass. Make life easy on yourself. I just used last night first time the tumbler to separate pins. Man, that is the easiest way so far. Then I drained off dirty water-filled base up with freshwater tumbled again so now the brass is really rinsed well. Out of 500 9mm shells not one primer pocket had any steel pins stuck in the hole.
