I pre-ordered one too but I really think Sony is going to do something great for the next PSVR. I keep getting this feeling it's going to become their next foray into portables. They have learned plenty from everybody else while doing their own isolated work on VR. I think they are just waiting til they can introduce a full fledged experience instead of a stepping stone. I think it's gonna be really great and this will give technology a chance to get a little cheaper keeping build costs down.

@@kiryusha_2973 i stil use my samsung odyssey+ which i have modded with aspheric lenses from the gear vr. I have owned q2, reverb g2, pico 4 and varjo aero, and even the 8k varjo was sold , and i went back to using my old oled samsung again. the reverb and varjo (4.6k and 8k lcd) promised better contrast and color , but it was still far far from as good. The psvr2 is realy good and will be a worthy replacement, if they can get it working on a pc anytime soon that is, but the ivry guy is getting close.

You realise you will never see this much difference in the headset, as you will not be able to get this close to that object. You don't watch TV from a 3-mm distance, do you?

@@mitcherny6965 you will notice it, that's like telling someone they won't see a difference in clearness after putting on and taking off glasses. I'm assuming you don't have a vr headset but the quest 1 is quite blurry and a near 4k display will make a difference. That's like saying you won't notice a difference from a 1080p monitor and a 4k monitor, and I don't see your point with the 3-mm thing when it's about the elimination of the screendoor effect and the sharpness/clearness of the experience rather than how many pixels you can see.

Mit Cherny You will. I have the oculus quest and the screen door effect is huge. I really hate it. The screen door effect is gone on the new one and everything is much sharper. We will see a really big difference in the quest 2

lmao, that would be pointless. G2 would wipe the floor against the Quest2. Hell most WMR kits will wipe the floor against the quest2. Pixel count means nothing for clairty, PPD and PPI matter, whereas the Qeust and Quest2 are some of the worst clarity HMDS you can buy.

I want to see the Reverb against the Index and Quest 2 Link. Those are the top 3 PC headsets right now, and 3 completely different price points, so it would be very interesting to see the results.

Have a feeling reverb g2 will look much better than quest 2 using link cable. Tried original Quest with link compared to Rift s and the colors look washed out on the quest. Most likely due to compression.

@@battou2501 Not all LCD screens are the same. The G2 LCD is a IPS one, the Quest 2 a VA one. The IPS is better for colors and clarity (in fact, it is the better LCD you can have without HDR, that VR doesn't have anyway). Furthermore, two panels are MUCH better than one (even on parity of quality of LCD screens), so no, it's not "only resolution" (that, btw, is substantially higher). Add to this the inevitable compression with the Link and the difference will be huge. The Quest 2 is a great standalone headset but as far as image quality it is obviously not on the same tier as the G2 (nor it was the intention of Oculus for it to be).

Awesome! I was looking forward to a through the lens video for these headsets... the difference, when zoomed in, is pretty crazy. I think the resolution at this point is well good enough, I hope Oculus puts more focus on increasing FOV going forward.

You may need to zoom in to see the difference on a still image, but in the headset I find the screen door effect very obvious. I'm glad they are reducing it!

Well, the Quest only gets a compressed video signal (+ latency) via Link. So the G2 not only has the better resolution, it also get's a uncompressed, flawless picture. John Carmack himself said that the link cable is not as good as native PCVR headsets, which is sad, really. So you're definitely better of with a G2, if your main focus is PCVR

Awesome job Tyriel, you can really tell the difference! Aside from the poor blacks surrounding the Rec Room logo every slide and video showed a noticeable improvement on the Quest 2. So much more detail on the Rec Room man! Can't wait to get mine!

I'm very interested in seeing DCS, IL-2, or some other flight simulator in the PC comparison. Readability of HUD elements and cockpit gauges is fairly important for these kind of games.

You wouldn't be using something like a Quest for those games. Reverb G2 and/or Index are really what you should get for sims.

Skybox VR is going to look really good on the Quest 2. It was one of the only things I used my Quest 1 for, until I built my second desktop to run the Index on it. Since the Quest 2 actually has a better resolution than the Index, I'd expect great results.

EVOLICIOUS have you even tried link? i haven’t but it’s not streaming. only thing it is its compressed and lower resolution but they are supposed to release an update that upgrades the quest 2s link resolution, and reduce compression. the link is no way at all streaming, streaming uses WiFi and would ridiculously ruin the immersion of vr, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t, given how popular it is.its just a wire that connects your pc to your quest, with streaming the compression would be random but it’s not, it stays consistent because it still renders natively from the pc, just currently at the cost of reduced resolution and compression because the wire is not a display port, it converts the display to the quest 2, but streaming would be much much worse.

pochi I’ve tried link and compared it to my rift cv1. I didn’t notice latency but noticed the reduced refresh rate of 72 on the quest vs 90 on my cv1.

I am really curious about that aswell. XR2 features ton of tricks up its sleeve, but developers of virtual desktop may need to manually add support to get full advantage of XR2.

I Would take both And then use them for like a day or two each And see which you like better Return the opposite one Remember if you end up liking the G2 more, you can still use workarounds, like REVIVE I think, to play oculus games

Oculus Quest 2 even though advertised as a nearly 4K headset, it is actually a full 4K display, just the resolution has been slightly lowered to handle the hardware.

I really hope quest 2 delivers, quest 1 was an overall downgrade to the cv1, my quest is collecting dust because yes is a bit more crisp, but the weight, audio, comfort, tracking....and on and on its just worst.

@@darkzler Well that was kinda expected with Quest 1 given it was the first gen of standalone and almost all the specs made it clear it was a downgrade over the Rift CV1. Now, however, it seems pretty clear the Quest 2 is an upgrade or match in basically every spec, especially if you factor in Link PC mode, and in terms of the resolution it's a huge upgrade. So, yeah, I think Quest 2 is a far safer bet this time around. Really, the only negative appears to be the strap, which, although usable as is, will likely need an upgrade. And, of course, there's the now mandatory Facebook sign in, but I guess that's coming to every Oculus headset down the line anyway, so it's not really a negative on specific to Quest 2.

@@inceptional I hope they improve the link implementation, if you have a cv1 or any other native pcvr headset, you will notice a lot of extra latency and performance loss, the tracking is the same as the quest, so good enough but not like a cv1 with 3 sensors, and the audio is the same implementation of the quest1, that is not really great but at least you can fix it with some headphones, so still looks like its not a complete upgrade but it might be worth it if we get a better wireless experience with VD.

@@darkzler I presume Link will be even better now that it's out of beta plus running on the more powerful Quest 2. With enough tweaking there's no reason it shouldn't feel very similar to CV1, and I think Facebook is confident enough of that too, which is one of the main reasons why I think it's dropping Rift entirely going forward. With the sound, obviously you can just plug in some headphones if you want PC-level audio, which admittedly does require you getting those, but not a huge deal considering the lower price of the Quest 2, I'd say, and at least you do get built-in sound regardless. The tracking won't be quite as good a Rift CV1 with 3 sensors, but it is more than good enough based on all the reports I've read/seen, with the headset tracking being basically perfect (likely even better than CV1, given you could do something like bend right down to the ground and not lose tracking for example), and the huge convenience of either not using any cables at all and having entirely free movement and turning, or at most using a single lighter and thinner Link cable easily makes up for that imo. I think overall the Quest 2 is a much superior choice compared to a headset like the CV1 for the vast majority of users and indeed use-case scenarios. But I have no doubt some people will still want to stay stuck in the past with a headset that has around half the resolution, suffers worse God rays and screen door effect, requires a PC and at least 2 sensors to be set up somewhere in your room by default (and ideally 3), is more hassle to go through the set up process configuring guardian and the controllers and the like, uses at least 4 connections on your PC (and comes with a kinda meh main cable), can only be used tethered in the one place you have it set up, uses the much clunker and more convoluted Oculus PC app, still costs more (in the Rift S' case), isn't getting anywhere near the number of updates/patches and improvements (like full hand tracking for example), and so on. Compared to both CV1 and Rift S, I think the Quest 2 [probably with Elite head-strap and Oculus Link too] is an overall win for 99% of users.

@@inceptional Quest 2 selling point is that its all in one so yea, its going to be better for most users, specially if they dont have a gaming pc, I personally want it for PCVR, quest1 failed me big time for that use but its fun for on the go gaming or simple looking games, my hope is that we can play real VR PC games with Virtual Desktop with better performance and quality than what we get from Quest 1, I dont even care if its not better but a comparable experience to cv1 if that means we can enjoy wireless pcvr.

Can you try to up the resolution using Sidequest as you can with the Quest 1 and see how much better it looks? If it does look better.

@@richardkavanagh8835 that's why I use the 1500 setting. It's a good middle ground and looks pretty good but doesn't hurt performance. At least in Onward and Echo Arena.

Definitely waiting for Quest 3...Not big enough improvement for me..SDE was never dominant for me and I always increase the res on the Q1

Reverb will kick the butt of Quest 2 in both visual and audio departments. Honestly if you only want PC VR reverb is the way to go right now if the price is not too high for your budget. If you have a smaller budget or you want stand alone VR then Quest 2 is a decent option. I would not want the quest 2 because you will be getting this device at a great price at the expense of you being the Facebook product.

Tried out a vive many times. And said to myself that I will buy a vr set when screendoor effect is gone or barely visible. The quest 2 is the first vr set I'm going to buy.

Most all modern HMDs have no SDE. WMR, Index, Vive Pro, ect all do not have SDE. I own pretty much all of them, lol. OG vive and CV1 Rift are pretty much the only HMDs that have noticeable SDE

If you wanted to minimize SDE, why didn't you just get an Odyssey+? It literally has Anti-SDE as an advertised feature.

Thanks you for this video. Being that the Quest 2 is my first VR set, I went into it expecting image quality to be the same as I have seen in gameplay videos. I noticed it seemed a bit “fuzzy” and have been spending the past few days scratching my head over it, thinking something was wrong. I didn’t realize the view was different in the VR set than it is on flatscreen. Now I see it is just the way it is for vr, which I don’t mind, especially now I know nothing is wrong. Thanks again!

Great job. I had to subscribe because I preordered both the Quest 2 and the HP Reverb G2. I think Ty has to be one for the few people on the planet with both of them.

Brilliant job on these videos Tyriel! I have had the original Quest from day 1 and use it everyday and really enjoy. Couple of things I have grown to wish for is less SDE and a bit more clarity. I am so pumped to see almost no SDE in the Q2 and a real improvement in clarity. I am sure it will get better also as Oculus bring more out of the panel and the XR2. Really looking forward to seeing the link comparison and would also love to see a Virtual Desktop comparison.

@@markchinsky9511 Agree. The SDE really don't bother me when i'm in VR actually, but this grey/black lcd screen is not possible for me. So sad this Oculus quest 2 is not on Oled anymore.

@@5people829 maybe for you. But i've tried both rift s and quest, having full black and great colours/contrast really help me for immersion. Putting an lcd screen is a step back. But I guess they have to make somes choices in order to reduce the price. LCD instead of Oled and this ugly white plastic. But yeah of course this quest 2 is way better than the 1 "hardwarely" speaking

@@ji3200 No, LCD is just cheaper and that's it. Pixel density is very depend on panels. And also, OLED often use pentile instead of RGB, which makes rough image but OLED can have RGB too.

Does quest 1 has oled? This explain why I wondered why quest 2's blacks looks so much worse compared to quest 1 (when I watch this video). I'll cancel my order and will get quest 1. I hate all my LCD headsets: Hp reverb and Index, but love my Vive.

With the IPS display, we'll be getting less godrays, and there's actually quite similar contrast. Obviously in extremely dark scenarios (5 nights at freddy's Help wanted) you won't get the pitch black, but the contrast is better due to the reduced godrays.

I really think if VR goes the way it is going now, we can get closer and closer to the VR Oasis like in Ready Player One.
