Sounds very expensive to hire a seamstress. At that point, you just buy new to your size.

@@michellevill6467 you can get stuff altered for as low as £5. a lot of the time you can fix the fit by hemming, adding darts, or shortening straps, all of which dont really take more than 5 minutes to sew, so tailors can def keep the prices cheap. plus if your seamstress is a family member they might be willing to do it for free :)

Or a sewing machine!! There r plenty of ways to alter a garment that r pretty simple, and there are tons of yt tutorials out there!!

I love this kind of energy when shopping. It’s a great to think before buying and not over-consume. Oftentimes, I find that I am more willing to buy something when it is cheaper, such as when an item is on sale or at the thrift… but then I bring it home and realize I didn’t really like it that much. 😂

@@-soulayyyIf you buy off the rack, you'll have to tailor it anyway! (People always tailored their off-the-rack garments in the early 20th century! That's why our grandmas looked so good.) Buying secondhand, being picky, AND tailoring the second-hand garment is even more environmentally friendly, plus saves money on the initial cost! ❤

If you don't like the color of something, always consider dying it! Rit dye is cheap and easy to use. I've gotten a lot of clothes where I love the design but don't like the color, it's a simple fix!

Normalize picky thrifting instead of buying it because it’s there and you can hack at it and if it doesn’t work out you can just toss it . I’ve seen so many people pick up something that didn’t fit them like it’s too big and they either never wear it or they hack at it to like make a pair of pants a jacket but they only wear it once and then never again. Someone who could have actually fit and worn the item as intended could have gotten better use out of it . I’m a picky shopper too but I’ve gotten better at leaving stuff behind when it was too small for me

Actually, Ralph Lauren has many other lesser known sub-brands (libes) that may be even less expensive than "Lauren." There's RL, Ralph, Lauren Jeans, and many don't know but Chaps, as well. Lauren is kinda upper-middle, from the 70's. 😊

RANT INCOMING: i think especially when thrifting you NEED to be picky, especially because I realized that most people when thrifting will be surprised by the amount of things that they like, but really it doesn't matter how much of it you like, you should have in mind super specific things that you want or need, which will save you all kinds of time and money. i think getting cheap quality for cheap (or even expensive), especially if you only sort of like it, is completely worthless.

You could’ve used pins to shape the champagne satin dress . Rule of thumb when thrifting is you have to make the pieces work if you can. Put them on they usual require some doctoring .

And thrifters know what she meant about the girls asking her if she was gonna buy it… they were asking because they wanted to get it if she wasn’t. That happens quite often when I go thrifting people will pass up great finds then when i go to try them on myself in a mirror people will then suddenly see the vision and swoop in like hawks wanting it.
