I think she also overcooked it which was why she was comparing the texture to the brownie edge. When she poked the center with the toothpick it came out clean but she still thought it needed a couple more minutes to cook. When the toothpick comes out clean the first time it should be done, it’s even fine if there’s a little bit of wet crumb on the toothpick. But she’s not a food scientist or anything so I don’t fault her 😁

You definitely make a good point. To add to that, I don’t think the recipe provided would ever provide an light and airy cake. It’s a somewhat basic dense white cake batter. She would have to use a recipe that relies on a meringue base like a chiffon cake and I would go with oil rather than butter.

The cream was definitely not even close to gooey and was exactly like how Emmy described what she thought it would be: light and fluffy like whipped cream. I haven't had one in years. Maybe it was my kid tastebuds not noticing that they were extremely sweet, but there has to be a difference since they close/discontinued and reopened.

I use my sandwich maker (with 4 triangle sections) for cornbread, muffins, biscuits, mini banana bread bites, etc. It's simple enough that a kid can run it, and cooks quickly enough that it's usually about the same amount of time as it would take to do a whole batch in the big oven. After watching this though, I'm going to try corndogs (cornbread batter and a sliced hotdog) and pigs-in-a-blanket (waffle batter with breakfast sausage).

The snickers one sounds so good! I'd be so curious to see you try another round with your own batter recipe to try and get a closer texture! Like maybe using a super airy chiffon batter? If the crumb texture were lighter and more webbed maybe that will allow the cream to spread easier instead of getting stuck in one spot. And another attempt at a different cream filling too!

My mom would give me $5 and let me go crazy buying stuff in there- I think each 2pk was $.50 lol. I loved Twinkies, and cherry pies. They would let our Girl Scout troops tour the factory to see how they made the Twinkies, and every time I saw it done I was astounded; at the end of the tour we got a Twinkie fresh off the conveyer- they were awesome tasting (that is he only time I got fresh Twinkies)

Actually I did, and the experience was incredibly surreal because it was late at night and it's cold and the lights flickered on the sidewalk leading to the lonesome 7-11 on the corner, the only open shop among destitute buildings that flank the establishment, and all this quietude was eerie until I walked in to purchase the goods. I returned to my cozy home to indulge in the fluffy, creamy, sweet sweet heaven that was my Twinkie. Well, Twinkies plural, I got the double pack. 10/10 would walk again.

Hi Emmy! (I LOVE your videos!) If you try the Twinkie maker again, try separating the eggs and whipping the whites (like a Japanese cheesecake or angel food cake.). That should give you the lighter texture you're looking for. 😁 I also found that filling them end to end like a helps give better filling distribution. (Pumpkin cake with cream cheese filling is delightful for a fall treat.)

Sadly the new Twinkies are nowhere near as good as the old ones (they changed it a few years ago).

The hot dog one is begging to be injected with easy cheese 😂 It has the perfect nozzle and everything! Maybe you should try making some, you could substitute jiffy cornbread muffin mix for the cake.

I like your attempt at a strawberry shortcake Twinkie version. Twinkies were originally developed to help a bakery that produced shortcakes for strawberries during the off-season The bakery used specially designed cake pans and added a banana-creme filling to sell their cakes off-season. It became a hit.
