Nice to hear from you Julie! Thanks for watching and hope to meet you sometime soon too!
Once again, Dr. Lori shares her vast knowledge in what to look for when purchasing or acquiring beautiful pieces of art or just plain "wannabe" replicas that are out there to deceive us. (BTW, I also noticed that contorted hand on that painting too! I was like, that's gotta flippin hurt 😂) I've learned so much in watching Dr. Lori's videos here on KZread and her website. Such an intelligent, lovely and funny woman you are... Thank you Dr. Lori 🌴🤙🏽❣

Good eye on the "hand"! Sounds like you are getting a trained eye!!
You brought up a really interesting scenario where everything had to have a function, a purpose, a use. My parents were raised during the depression and this ideology was very much instilled and passed down to us as kids. If you had something like a giant vase that was something to be admired as opposed to being functional, it was considered extremely frivolous/ostentatious. During those times people were starving and it was thought to be almost rude to own something like that and have the gall to even have it on display. So if an object could be made into an everyday item, it didn't make it so bad to have it and a person could be absolved from my perceived guilt. I remember my Mother was still hiding stuff like this away because of that very reason, even in the Seventies and Eighties. Many of these "Lamp" conversions did happen during the time of the depression.

My brother has a puzzle ring it was made in Iran, It's about one half inch wide with ruby's, sapphires, and emeralds. His father-in-law got it way back in the early 1980's he was working over there. It's a beautiful ring.
Dr Lori, Caught some of the live stream but was called away from it. So glad you reposted so I could finish watching. Your videos are always informative, funny and have taught me quite a few things(but my memory is getting holes in it, lol) I appreciate the fact that you teach us with humor and make us stop and think about the item as you appraise them. I have a great idea ... but, you may not think it's so great! LOL ;-) Take you camera to you own home and show us some of YOUR collectibles. Tell us where you got them, from whom, their worth, etc. THEY would make fascinating videos for all of us to enjoy and learn from. You could do one a week, taking us to different areas of your house where you have special items you've collected. Especially coming down from your family members. If your other family members have things (from your relatives) they could share with us, film them, too. I hope I'm explaining my thoughts here well enough for you to "get the idea." :-) Call it: AT HOME WITH DR. LORI

Question: wouldn't a perspective error on an original painting be interesting? Would love to hear your gig on valuable paintings that DO have errors that might define authenticity.
@DrLoriV
4 жыл бұрын
Good question. This error stuff is overrated. For example, do you want your knee surgery to have an interesting error done by the surgeon :) You want to buy works by well trained artists. Sure some works will be better than others, but good artists don't make errors like the one in this video. Just like good surgeons. Thanks for the question Tom.

Hello Dr.Lori,I praise you,and all the you tube videos that you have made for us,So Helpful to me and my new hobby,(collecting unique and one of a kind items that are costly) I also love to prospect gems and diamonds,meteorites,petrified dinosaur, minerals and Crystal's, Arkansas has so many gems and all the above, after 3 years of hunting and digging My collection has grown, Question? Can you appraise Meteorites,Indian artifacts,Raw Natural Ark diamonds,raw gemstones,petrified dinosaur etc...I sold a petrified egg a few weeks ago for$3.888.00, I do believe I made a mistake when I sold it, after thinking about it, it takes a very long time for a petrified process to happen naturally, I'm thinking " THAT WAS NO CHICKEN EMBRYO IN THAT PETRIFIED EGG!, CHRIST! What have I done? I insisted on your apprasil service,but husband wouldn't have it, Well I'm not listening to him anymore,he's a virgo! Anyway,let me know if you cover those fields in appraising,because I have another big item that needs verification \paperwork to prove or name the speicman.Im not 100%,on all that I find, but I'm getting better,if you dont, can you advise me who can around my home here in Arkansas,(I'm originally from Chicago I'll ), lol, ok not funny I miss that place.
