it's the location, my local goodwill is super terrible unless you're getting shoes, but the one by my college is great for hypster/Tumblr gay aesthetics. tldr; try thrift stores that are a little farther away and see what you find

Usually I try to look through every section even if I’m not sure I’ll like what’s there or if it’ll fit. I tend to find gems more that way, also location and knowing where to go is important. Old seaside towns are better for shoes and furniture because old people mostly live there, intercity thrift stores can be overpicked but tend to have a lot more variation in what comes in. I like to find ones near the edges of cities, there usually out of the way enough that most people don’t bother, and if there’s a shortage of teens in the town there’s less people looking for “trendy” clothes

Everybody cares about Pantone, you're good. $90 is definitely a good price - I've seen chairs like that for $600 second hand. I'm also amazed you found that unstained cream cashmere at a thrift store. You're doing great, tell your brain to hush and just keep going.

Do you actually feel guilty about making fashion related videos because you feel they are superficial? I don't think your videos are superficial at all. To me, fashion is a means to express myself, to tell the world who I am, and have fun in the process. Fashion brings more beauty and happiness to my life than all the other "serious" stuff I do, and your videos contribute to that. Your thrift hauls give me many ideas about things I'd like to try wearing because you have a unique sense of style and always come up with some bold choices (like the colorful rubber band shoes). Your clothes altering videos make me get up and dust off my sewing machine. Your how to put together an outfit videos give me so many ideas about how to repurpose my clothes. You manage to do all that while also raising awareness about the unsustainability of the clothing industry and on top of that you have a wonderful personality, so watching your videos is a pleasure. So please don't doubt it. Your videos are important and you are important. But maybe for you it's harder to see from the other side of the screen.

I really hope Ashley reads this top comment because it is SO TRUE. Ashley, you are the person that has helped me break my preconceived notion that fashion is merely superficial and it's just for the "looks" and all of that. Just seeing you have fun, being unapologetic about your choice of garments and styling amazes me because although I knew fashion is about expressing myself and having fun in that process, I couldn't really practice it that way. You show me the ways to enjoy fashion without having to buy $3000 outfits, having to fit in completely with the trend, by just wearing things I like, not what others would say is pretty. Yes, I understand why fashion might seem superficial because I know your passion is screenwriting, movie industries, and all that jazz where they tell stories to move and change people's minds. It seems like there are better things to do in life like saving sad and poor children. Fashion SEEMS like it doesn't have that power. But it truly does. Clothes themselves don't, but the people living in fashion and truly enjoying fashion like you do have that power to make others happy and become more confident - in not just fashion but their everyday lives. Maybe it can't save children or solve the world's problems, but we all deserve a little bit of play time you know ;) I just hope you come to think that fashion is your playground, where you can let go of all the big big dreams and just focus on what makes you happy.

It's really hard to go from working tirelessly toward a goal like college graduation to a sudden stop when you finish. The halt in momentum and change in routine and responsibilities really does a number on you, especially if you found a lot of value and purpose in what you were studying. That was me in December when I finished graduate school! But you're going to be great, Ashley. You already are! You're so creative and genuine and have such a good head on your shoulders. First, allow yourself to breathe and reflect on all you've done. You're not lazy if you stop moving 100mph (something I struggle with believing sometimes) And then move forward believing that all this work you've done and all these skills you've collected will serve you in your next dream. Love me some of that I’ve thought of that too! But I think especially if she’s going to be selling a large volume (like 100s+ shirts) it would actually be more expensive and a logistical nightmare to take that route. When manufacturing from scratch everything is uniform and becomes even cheaper the more quantity you produce. Imagine the time spent sourcing all the shirts needed, washing them, screen printing every one by hand, then organizing everything, and every shirt would be different so there could be inconsistencies with sizing or quality. This method would probably work better if someone was making smaller quantities and maybe selling in person or actually listing each item separately so they could give accurate descriptions. Anyway, sorry for this in depth analysis you clearly didn’t ask for!! I’ve thought about this too much and have gone through every possible problem which could arise 😂

@@nancygarcia683 I actually really appreciate that you wrote that all out! in the moment i was excited about the idea of being able to possibly thrift shirts to make merch instead of having to buy new wholesale shirts which may not be sustainable/ethical. but i realize now since Ashley has a large audience, the quantity of merch demand she would likely have is way way way too much for a single person to handle in terms of buying the shirts second hand. plus all the inconsistencies makes this idea a little bit of an unrealistic dream now that i think about it. but I'm glad someone like you has thought about semi-ethical/sustainable merch :)

I found a lot of cute things by using the search bar and only looking at specific brands or styles like wrap dresses or mini skirts. It takes a bit of digging but it's so worth it. Hope that helps!

The post grad feels is soo real. I felt the same way. As much as college felt like growing up I still felt hurled into the real world with no clue of who I was or what I wanted. It passes. You are a talented awesome person who makes tons of people on the internet laugh/smile/dress better. There is value in that, not everyone has to become a doctor or humanitarian to help others. But I feel it, I have over achieving parents too

9 months later and she finally posted the room makeover that was coming “in a month”

thats totally how I feel about fashion/clothes: I'd be buying stuff again, feel guilty because its MORE STUFF, but also BE IN LOVE and its like fashion is just awesome ok

i just graduated college too and i find myself asking the same questions you did like 'what do i want to do w my life' and i just feel so in the middle of everything right now lmao it's kinda nice to see that i'm not the only one. hope you get thru this emo phase. i'll try my best too 👍🏽

I feel like fashion can just be such a huge escape and huge part of your life that can be work or career or a hobby but I don’t think it’s superficial at all. You absolutely love fashion and there’s nothing wrong with it . I felt like after graduating I had an education so I had to save the world and that’s great to think and all but there’s nothing wrong with just focusing on saving yourself. I love you and your videos are amazing !! You’re young and while it’s hard not to feel lost after graduation there’s no rush to figure out what you want to do . That’s going to look different for everyone
