this is first song I ever heard of them. Of course being a Prog band, I'll need to listen to it again and again. I feel somehow a great influence of bands like Asia, GTR, Neil Morse... the brief guitar solo is very hackettish but I agree that the lyrics are original and very powerful...

Threshold is back and it has been a long time! :-) What a hit!!! :-D Despite Damian Wilson is a very good singer, his comeback to the front of the band has disappointed me a little and there has been much less impressive things and best thrills than for the Mac albums (I discovered the band first with "Falling away" into Critical Mass) and ever the oldies I discovered later (thanks to Paradox box set!). Glynn is back for the good and sings here very fairly on very catching melodies without forgetting the technical skills of the other members, with still Karl, Richard and now-considered Johanne as the band pillars. The great single "Lost in Translation" was giving already a great preview of what could be the forthcoming album and they were right. Of course, there is a second masterpiece, somewhere better again, as is "The Man who saw through Time". And there are those like this one, much accessible for those who are discovering the "metal progressive", or again "State of Independence". Clearly, one more music shock of this year with Blackfield V. Personally, I came to the metal progressive after having dived into neo progressive when I was a little child (born 1981 - the first impress was with Marillion Fish-era) and classical progressive (Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson) later, both through my parents. This is with an old promotional tape I arrived to Vanden Plas, Symphony X and then to Dream Theater and Threshold. What is funny is the fact that Karl, the lead guitarist of Threshold, is as well the long-time producer of Pendragon, a neo prog cousin from first Marillion lineup! This is in order to say there is no need to make the bands compete each other, they have got their own identity.

Beautiful!. You could be the one in the yard who tends the farm Or the one on the hill who paints it You could be the one in the house who loves the art Or the one in the siut who pays him. No one knows who you are. No one knows who you are. The moon goes round, the world goes round the sun And you won't know your worth until it's done And i can change your orbit change your size But i don't want to launch you till it's wise To set you spinning away. Like stars and satellites. Like stars and satellites. You could be the one tying boats up by the dock Or the one in the shed who makes them You could be the one in the car who buys the yacht Or the one who will come to save him. No one knows who you are. No one knows who you are. The moon goes round, the world goes round the sun And you won't know your worth until it's done And i can change your orbit change your size But i don't want to launch you till it's wise To set you spinning away. Like stars and satellites. Like stars and satellites. Will you answer the call on the telephone. Will you follow the map we sent. Will you take all the pills and the dollar bills And the lies that came and went. Will you reach for the sky think that you can fly. Will you tumble and fall from grace. Will you study the plans of those invisible bands. Till it's time to take your place. Like stars and satellites. How do i come down. How do i come down. How do i come down. How do... (Guitar solo). No one knows who you are. No one knows who you are. The moon goes round, the world goes round the sun And you won't know your worth until it's done And i can change your orbit change your size But i don't want to launch you till it's wise To set you spinning away. Like stars and satellites. Like stars and satellites. Like stars and satellites. Like stars and satellites. Like stars and satellites.

This song definitely has a lush melody and for the most part is very kind on the ears. If some manufactured boy or pop band went and performed this song instead of Threshold, then i bet it get to number one and become a house hold legend of a song. It needed Glynn Morgan instead of Damien Wilson to make that happen.

  • @williamloveridge9353

all the people saying that andrew (mac) was a better vocalist than glynn, i'd have to disagree personally, dont get me wrong mac was magnificent - i just think that glynn has always been a better singer + song writer - make sure you checkout Mindfeed-Ten miles high the album, its where glynn went after threshold (truly the most under rated band of the 90's IMO) - my favourite songs written by glynn are Will to give and Innocent. The entire album psychedelicatessen released in 1994 was phenomenal front to back - Devoted was also an epic track off that album, i still listen to it all the time. This album is awesome - but would like to see the band make another record similar to subsurface or hypothetical with glynn. Thing is the band will do what comes naturally and now that glynns back i think we will start to see the old threshold we all loved start shining through again. We will see time will tell, great album lads glad to see your hitting it back - personally liked damiens old stuff but the new albums with him after mac passed just werent doing it for me

What would fans say are their 3 best albums? I like the heaviest catchy crunchy riffs with great instrumental passages and gorgeous melodies. I also like a little jazz in there as well. Sometimes I wish there was more music than singing. I have their Dead Reckoning album which could be their best but what other two albums do you think I would really like?

I don't think there's a bad album by Threshold; they're all great. But you said you like a little jazz so I expect your musical tastes are diverse. Given that, I'd say the proggiest of Threshold's albums would probably be Extinct Instinct. I say that because it's the most diverse album they've put out. It's got some influences of thrash, psychedelic, acoustic folk, 80's hair metal. It's a very diverse album. So, if your tastes are diverse, you'll probably like it. Otherwise, it's probably their least liked album, given its ratings on Encyclopaedia Metallum. I think March of Progress is a very powerful album. It's the followup to Dead Reckoning. If one could only have three Threshold albums, I'd probably recommend one album with each lead singer. I'd recommend Wounded Land (their first) for the Damian Wilson era because it's Threshold's first album, Hypothetical or Dead Reckoning for the Mac era, and Legends of the Shires for the Glynn Morgan era.

I think it's about a quest to find one's life calling, whether it be something big and important, or something small and humble. Like Rush said in Closer to the Heart, philosophers and ploughmen each have their part in the world.

It is also possible the song is narrated by God as Richard West often writes songs from God's POV. "your loving eyes" in Small Dark Lines is most likely referring to that.

Sorry, no time to wait for the lyrics on the video.;) You could be the one in the yard who tends the farm Or the one on the hill who paints it You could be the one in the house who loves the art Or the one on the suit who pays him No one knows who you are No one knows who you are The moon goes round The world goes round the sun And you won't know your worth until it's done And I can change your orbit, change your size But I don't want to launch you, till it's wise To set you spinning away like stars and satellites Like stars and satellites You could be the one tying the boats up by the dock Or the one in the shed who makes them You could be the one in the car who buys the yacht Or the one will come to save him No one knows who you are No one knows who you are The moon goes round The world goes round the sun And you won't know your worth until it's done And I can change your orbit, change your size But I don't want to launch you, till it's wise To set you spinning away like stars and satellites Like stars and satellites Will you answer the call on the telephone? Will you follow the map we sent? Will you take all the pills and the dollar bills And the lies that came and went? Will you reach for the sky, think that you can fly? Will you tumble and fall from grace? Will you study the plans of those invisible bands Till it's time to take your place? Like stars and satellites "How do I come down?" "How do I come down?" "How do I come down?" "How do..." No one knows who you are No one knows who you are The moon goes round The world goes round the sun And you won't know your worth until it's done And I can change your orbit, change your size But I don't want to launch you, till it's wise To set you spinning away like stars and satellites Like stars and satellites Like stars and satellites Like stars and satellites
