Three World Champions versus three Russian talents

Ойындар

All of the participants of Tal Memorial 2018 had gathered at the Dvorkovich place in Moscow in the memory of IA Vladimir Dvorkovich.
There was a small exhibition match where three former World Champions (Anand, Karpov and Kramnik) played against three Russian talents - Karjakin, Nepo and Dubov! What an exciting duel!
To see Anand, Karpov and Kramnik together is rare. And to see them discussing chess is even more.

It got me emotional to watch Karpov, maybe feeling a bit weaker since the other two former world champs are still top players, or I don't know how to say it not belonging.. But to watch such a legend and genius still very very strong and enjoying his time with the kids is surreal. I LOVE Kramnik and admire all not despicable super grand masters (this of course includes Vishy). But Karpov is really the one who caught my attention the most. Unreal as well to see the complicity between Anand and Big Vlad! This video put a big smile on my face. :) Thank you very much!

At his prime Karpov was stronger than any of those players. And even at this age, in this scenario, he's possibly the strongest player there. Hear me out. Karpov is the strongest over-the-board player in history, and the best at immediately assessing a position. It doesn't matter that his age means he lacks stamina to focus for 5 hours or even every move of a rapid game such as here, because he's got Anand and Kramnick making 2/3 of the moves in the game. So when a turn comes round in this game, there's simply no one better at playing it then Karpov. Note, it was the youngest guy that made the tactical error at the end (Dubov) and Karpov that seized on it!

Make no mistake, a person can be good at chess but that does not mean that they have an above-average intelligence, being good at the game is due to practice and obviously talent, and yes, there are people who play chess and they are extremely clever but there are also others who play chess and despite being very good at it in other fields they are terrible, it is like you say that a runner who is good in his field is just as good in each and every one of the branches of athletics and obviously that is a mistake.

And many of the games that Kasparov won was because he deliberately played for adjournments to confer with his seconds. Karpov tried to get fide to abolish such a dumb rule. Anatoly is an underrated WC because his play nor personality was impulsive but he is without a doubt a genius over the board and THE strongest GM to watch when it comes to strategic and positional play, in his prime ofc.

The key move is at 11:50. Re5 (board labels show d4, but that's because the board is backwards) sets up the pawn fork on the queen and knight. Anand decides not to respond to the threat because he realizes they can get two pawns and a strong positional advantage with threats on the h file if they allow them the knight. They later end up winning back the knight and are two pawns ahead which puts them in a winning end game.
